alternate MFC

Hey everyone! So I just got axe fx ii xl plus off of a friend and I was wondering if I needed to get the fractal MFC101 or if I could just use my headrush as a midi controller. This would obviously save me some time and money but Im not quite sure how I would go about setting this up as I have never worked with midi before. Any and all help and suggestions are appreciated!!!

I just had a glance at the Headrush manual. Looks like it can only send MIDI Program Change messages. Which means that you could use it to change presets on the XL+, but that's about it. No switching individual effects on and off, no changing scenes...
