All Vai's Guitars (400+)

I realize it's hard to keep the variety fresh when you've collected hundreds of guitars, but how many white JEMs does a person really need, lol?

Yes... but why???

"One controls the top 3 strings and the other controls the bottom 3."

Looks like continuous employment to me! :D
Dude! At Vai Academy Thomas demonstrated how he performs a string change on Steve's guitars. I thought this was more about pre-gig work. Now I know the real truth! ;)

Seriously, though, I don't know how he keeps pace with Vai...

My guess is for most of them he only changes the strings when Steve is wanting to pull it out of storage.

Nerd fact: The Green Meanie is the sister guitar to the Charvel Strathead that Steve Farris played in Mr Mister, according to Wayne Charvel who built them

Tuning guitars is a real grind for touring guitar techs. Some have grown to detest high-ratio tuners.
Thomas uses a powered string winder that engages (in the proper direction) when rotated.

Unfortunately it's a discontinued product...;)
