AFX2 As Interface for Mic Preamp?

I could be wrong but I understand that you will still need an interface for your playback. The axe will work great as an input and reamping device but I cant see how it would work very well as your only soundcard? I could be wrong though

It plays back audio. I streams back two stereo channels and also can bring in at least one track for reamping.
It's like the Digitech GSP1101... but better :)
I used the GSP1101 to playback all of my audio when I was using it, no different than a dedicated audio interface.
Think of it almost like the Eleven Rack, but the Eleven rack includes a dedicated mic level input as well.
I use a PC and they has ASIO compatible drivers, I believe in the manual they mention it's core audio complaint so no driver needed for MAC users?

Yes, it will do that. You assign th USB outs in something like MediaPlayer/WinAmp and it will play audio back thru to the headphones jack.

Drivers are required on both platforms.

No, I recommend the $4000 vintage one. It darkens a bit more.

Save your money and get a Chandler TG2 or save even more and get a Vintech X73. Both pieces of gear will get you great, professional, beefy sound without paying a premium to have the word "neve" stamped on your preamp. :)
If you're a millionaire, then by all means, furnish your entire house with Neves if you want. :)

cheers,
Steve

How do you get on when your Daw is 24/96? can you still run your DAW at 96 even though the axe fx only does 48, also can you choose sample rate 32, 64, 256, 512 etc

I think at that point most software can be responsible for resampling from the 48khz to the new level (up or down) on the fly? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. The issue with 48khz (in the past) is if you are using the digital outs from the AxeFX INTO something else (ie. another audio interface, say via spdif). I believe in that case the AxeFX is the clock master and your external audio device clocks to the AxeFX so they both need to be set to 48Khz. UNLESS, you really do have a master clock which can do the resampling or conversion?
But in this case the AxeFX IS the audio interface so the resampling or conversion can be done via the software (I think?). Like I said, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
To be honest, I see no problems recording 24/48. It will use a little more space on disk than 24/44.1 but once it's in the DAW you can still mixdown or bounce to wave/mp3/whatever and finish @44.1. Likewise the opposite direction if you wish. But most things end up 16/44.1 right?
