So this leads me to think that the best replica body is the basswood one I have. I had wanted to end on a basswood relic but painted this in 2k acrylic which is pretty tough ( think modern guitar). The colour and the red and white are fine but the black needs a little attention . I was going to get one more body but without Chris I can’t get the spec I need.
This leaves me to either relic it as it is or remove the finish and start over. I should probably try to relic the existing paint before starting again because if it can be done the paint job is ok.

The close up texture is only slightly too good;

I was trying to do a NOS capturing the thin paint on the original.

It’s quite close but my paint is way more durable so it’s not going to be easy and I want this to look right even right up close.

Long way to go and this paint is super tough.

I have penned some lower bout damage outlines. Minimal for proportion and accurate position . I put it under the projector. Then you start with a scalpel and sample paint until you are happy ( so for me that’s never) .
You can see even from the test above I have completely redone the paint flake missing in the black and I haven’t got the big scratch through it yet.

All the paint pulls and most of the damage still to add and we are already several hours in.
Also if you’re familiar with this thread you will see how hard to get good enough pictures to work with from a mid point in its time. It is easier to build a replica of how it is now because there are good pictures but not for 86.
