5 Artists that are you

Brian Eno
David Bowie (I could probably make a 5 list out of Bowie Guitarists alone)
The Beatles
Gary Numan
Andy Summers

Thomas erak
Matt Bellamy
Both of the boys in polyphia
Ben kotin
Tosin Abasi

And this list is super condensed to fit in 5 spots, I guess these guys have the biggest pull in terms of influence

Paul Gilbert
John Williams (orchestral composer, not the guitarist)
Yngwie Malmsteen
Hans Zimmer
Iron Maiden

And because I can't count, I'm also mentioning Peter Frary, my classical guitar instructor for one semester, who left a lasting impression.

1-David Gilmour
2-Jimmy Page
3-Alex lifeson
4-Steve Howe
5-jeff beck

Special mention for Frank Zappa!!

I can almost do this if I limit myself to people who actually influence the way I play as opposed to "contribute to the shape of the mind, heart and soul" which is a list of (at least) hundreds of groups/musicians. Here goes:

George Lynch
Gary Moore
Joe Satriani
Neil Schon
Eddie Van Halen
(huge honorable mention: Steve Blaze)

Yep....that's honest, at least.

Here's mine...
1) Prince - surprised not mentioned here already - an amazingly clever and original guitarist with so many different styles
2) Radiohead - beautifully subtle or a distorted wall of sound and often both at the same time (try 'Just' as a great example)
3) Pixies - echo comments made earlier
4) Bowie's guitar sounds over the years (originality being the core here)
5) Johnny Marr (the Smiths)
Can't help having a couple of special mentions:
6) Matt Bellamy (Muse)
7) Knopfler

I enjoyed thinking about that!

Enjoy your weekends.

Ressurecting dead thread:

Aaron Marshall/Intervals
John Pertrucci/Dream Theater
Alex Lifeson/Rush
Mike Einziger/Incubus
Buckethead

Pretty generic I'd say...

But whew, Choosing only 5 is harder than it looks \m/

I would have to start with the very first guitar riffs I learned
-Scorps, Priest and Ac /Dc. Then of course I will never forget the 1st time I heard Eruption, on vinyl of course!

Then came more progressive stuff with Rush and Iron Maiden
Dokken, Dio Ratt could kinda be called 1 of the 5 as they all did similar stuff!

Although these days I love playing Zeppelin riffs more than any of that stuff.

Guitarists:
EVH
Lynch
Randy Rhoads
Eric Johnson
Vinnie Moore / Andy Timmons

Andy Timmons... Good lord. My uncle bought me his Sgt Peppers... guitar cover album. I was floored at how cool that was and how cleanly he plays. I was also shocked to hear he didn't use a Fender on that album. I was confident I was listening to a Strat... ^_^
