4cm for a Marshall DSL100?

I'm thinking of picking up a Marshall DSL100 to use with my Axe-FX. I used to own one but can't remember exactly what the rear panel includes. I think it only has an effects loop and no power amp in like my JVM had. How would I set this up to run the 4 cable method with this amp and be able to use the DSL's preamp and the Axe as a preamp at times?

I believe it is a series FX loop.

You run your guitar to the front of the axe-fx, the output 2 to the main input on the amp, the fx loop send on the amp to input 2 on the axe-fx and output 1 on axe-fx to the fx loop return on the amp.

To use the dsl's preamp put an fx loop block in your patch after the "pre" preamp effects. If you don't want to use the DSL's preamp, don't put in an fx loop block (or bypass it) and add an amp block after the "pre" preamp effects.

Be fore-warned. Any set up like this (multiple devices, plugged in at multiple stages) can be prone to ground loops. You may or may not have an issue with that. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to fix. I had a multi-amp rig that took a very long time to trouble shoot and come up with a solution. You may need something like a Ebtech hum eliminator or a buffer w/ an iso'd out put to eliminate it. Or you may not have an issue at all.

A few people have had issues w/ hiss. I tried it on my Bogner XTC and was able to do it w/o hum or his put I had to add a isolation transformer to do it (I used a Radial big shot ABY).

I do have an ebtech that I can try if need be.

For the effects loop block before the pre preamp chain...do I still need to add an amp block in after?

I'm not sure I follow?

If you added an fx loop block before you "pre" effects, they would no longer be pre, but post preamp effects.

I'm not sure I follow your original post

So let's say I wanted to use the DSL's preamp with the following effects from the axe (chorus, delay, flanger, wah) Would it be set up like this?
wah - chorus - flanger - fx loop - delay

or do I still need to put an amp block in there too?

Think of it this way the fx loop block is your DSLs preamp. So put amp block in when you want to use the axe-fx amp modeling and an fx loop block when you want to use the DSL's preamp. You only need an amp block when you are using the axe-fx's amp modeling and you only need a loop when you are using the DSL's preamp.

So no, in your example you would not need an amp block.

that makes perfect sense, thank you.
