22 june i am on stage with Steve Rothery :) Marillion

Our Band SilMarillion is selected to play on the fanclubday from The Web Holland in Holland on 22 june in de Boerderij in Zoetermeer.

We get to play 2 hours with my guitarhero Steve Rothery and we will bring the whole album Misplaced Childhood and different classics from the Fish era.

I am so Excited it,s not normal :) I will play my Axe FX2 direct in with 2 Fratomics for my monitors the only extra is a analogman DS1 that i use in the loop.

It is nice to have the confidence that my sound is great and steady.

We will record the show so i wil post a video later on.

Cheers

Hans

20 minutes from my house. I'll try to come. When do you play, afternoon or evening?

Awesome. Hopefully Steve Rothery takes note of your rig. I always thought he would be a perfect case study for replacing a pile of amps and a refrigerator rack of fx with an Axe.

Got any Marillion patches you want to share? I particularly love the guitar sounds on "Brave" (the album, not the song... but that too).

Have a blast :)

Ohhhh God!!! I cant beleive it!!!!! Waiting for the video!!!!! Have a great time with Steve!!!!Enjoy it man!!!!!

Wow!! Marillion are one of my all time favorite bands, congrats on the gig and looking forward to any recordings of it you can share.

As for Rothers going AxeFx 2 as a "replacement" for any or all of his rig? I got the impression that would never happen when I looked over his rig in Montreal this last March. He seems to like options and gadgets too much, LOL. Easily one of the biggest rigs I've ever seen... But I could totally see it as new piece in his rig though.

I agree , he loves gear to much but in that light i think he will love the Axe also, anyway the friday before the show we will rehearse with Rothers so i quess we have time to evaluate my Axe a bit :)

Awesome!
I love Marillion and Rothery' s clean sounds are some of the best ever I think.
A coverband I play with does Kayleigh so I did a preset for that. Would love to hear some of your patches.
I checked out Fremens "Clean Marillion" preset and that was very similar to the one I had made!

Good luck with the gig:)

Ha! For some reason this thread popped into my head and I was wondering if the gig had come and gone... Then lo and behold, it was yesterday! How did it go? Any cool stories to share?

Yeah too bad I only see it now..otherwise would love to see it.
Hope the gig went good. Have some video's??

Wow! It has to be amazing to see the Axe-FX side by side with the giant refrigerator and ultra-complex setup of Steve. :)

I hope that you did have fun! :encouragement:

Do you have some marillionesque AFXII patches? 8)

Hi there, just a short update.

It was a total blast to have the opportunity to play with Steve, he really took the time to explain some of his sounds and his rig. The afternoon was for rehearsel which was a cool experience also. We get to play 3 songs together on stage to Incommunicado , Heart of Lothian and The last straw wich was really great . He did not checked the Axe out and i didn,t want to push that so that was ok...

It made me really nervous to be on stage with him and i could notice that in my playing but Steve was really great to us and he put an effort in making it a great day.

Within 2 weeks we get the High Quality vids and then i will post some impressions here. If people want presets pm me please and i will send you my main Marillion presets, i use RW cabs so keep that in mind.

Sorry for my bad english btw.

Cool pics and song selection! Definitely looking forward to seeing the videos...

Did you have a chance to look at what Rothery was using with the Marshall and Roland?

For smaller gigs Steve lets the venue take care of a marshall and a JC120, now he got a JCM900 which i find is one of the worse Marshalls
To get a consistent crunch he has a Kingsley Jester (expensive) overdrive on his board so the clean channel of the marshall is the only channel
he uses.

For his lead he used a Analogman Ds1 and a digital delay what he always uses i think it was the DD 20

He had a nice Boomerang looper pedal also and some other stuf like a tc chorus etc. It was a small pedalboard made for traveling by plane.

He really took the time to explain his rig to me and it was clear to me he is so talented to dial in the right sounds just beautiful.

I also asked him if modeling was a option for smaller gigs but he was a bit vague about that , he told me about a italian modeling unit that was send to him to try out which he actually liked, I think fractal has a chance here also but i don,t know what their strategy is... and i didn,t want to push to much like a fanboy :)
