Ahhh gotcha. Thanks. So the 1970 is a similar circuit to the 100W Plexi? Changing the presence value turns it into closer to a Mk II?

Appreciate that - I didn’t mean best in that sense. Re the “modded presence cap”, I meant changing the presence value @James Freeman was referring to earlier in the thread. Less negative feedback means more perceived gain, is that right? So putting that up to where the ‘69 has it would bring...

    Modeling Questions

Is it best to use the 100W High with the Plexi tone stack for the most accurate “‘68” style Plexi/Super Lead or is the 1970 with the modded presence cap a better option? I don’t mean “better” as in better/worse.

    Modeling Questions

Sorry posting again... This thread has blown my mind. Changing the 100W Plexi tonestack makes me hear it far more like I'd expect. The stock 100W is a little warmer than the other models but setting the tonestack to "Plexi" opens it right up. Aside from changing the presence cap value (also...

    Modeling Questions

So to get the 100W to act more like it doesn't have log pots, set the tonestack to Plexi rather than default? That's number 79 in mine, rather than 4?

I find the Plexi models all quite dark. Explanation inside. Any help?

@FractalAudio ’s explanation yesterday helped a lot. Ended up spending quite a while today exploring the Factory IRs rather than the same old go-tos. Made this with the Plexi 100W High today, basically everything dimed. Getting much closer.

I find the Plexi models all quite dark. Explanation inside. Any help?

Interesting experiment here; So another reference of a great, less sizzly but big fat Plexi-style tone is from NAMM. Go to like 5:10. I used the Plexi 100W High, dimed it and used the Friedman GB DynaCab, with a single 57 on it. Not bad at all... maybe DynaCabs are the way to go here. It’s not...

Very interesting - thank you. I guess this does explain the differences. I also think the Fractal models sound better, there’s much more depth and a 3D quality. It’s the high end. I’ll keep tweaking.

Thanks guys. I really don’t want this to come across is I’m digging out the product. I love the product. I’m totally open to trying things and seeing if there’s something I’ve missed. I also see a lot of “you’re doing this wrong or that wrong” but my point is that with either the real amp or...

I bumped another thread but think this warrants its own. So for the longest time I’ve been looking for the ideal “Plexi” tone from a modeller. I guess we all know the sound I’m referencing but I’ve posted examples of the exact type of thing I’m talking about at the bottom of this. To preface...

Plexi Models Sound Dark - A different perspective (I tried EVERYTHING)

Can we revive this and say I’m experiencing them as a bit dark and middy too? The new 1970 and 1959SLP are better but they lack the kerrang and high end clank for me. Any ideas?

Keep EQ settings when changing amp models?

I'm sure my unit used to do this but when I switch models now, the EQ defaults to 5 across the board whereas the presence used to go back but nothing else. What's the setting for this? Makes it much easier when comparing models of a similar type!

AFIII Can you find the Fractal model of these three?

Having listened back to the clips I put up yesterday, I definitely think something funky was going on with one of my units, so I performed a factory reset, and dialled the tones back in. Much, much closer now. Not sure how/why that would happen but there we go. I included two from each unit this...

Bug? Gapless switching not completely gapless?

So, switching between amp channels within the preset is totally gapless so it must be another effect in my chain switching channels that's doing it? Edit: Found it. Think it's my Reverb block switching channels to a bigger reverb on my solo scene. Edit 2: I notice a tiny gap switching scenes...

Bug? Gapless switching not completely gapless?

Is it supposed to be a completely imperceptible gap? It’s not like it’s at all obvious in a gig situation but if I go from my solo scene to a different amp channel (a few other things change too) it seems like there’s a very small gap. CPU is at around 72-73%. If I record it, I can see the gap...

    FM9 Firmware Version 5.01

I wouldn’t say that - I love the product. I gig and tour it regularly and have come to rely on it to an extent. But I just would like the updates to be a little more in line with the big boy I suppose! Maybe I’m impatient.
  38. R

    FM9 Firmware Version 5.01

The various positive slants that you guys manage to put on it do make me laugh. It’s slower, it sucks a bit. Luckily the product is spectacular and it is fantastic as is but let’s not pretend we all prefer it this way. The Friday F5 posts wouldn’t exist if we did..?!
  39. R

    FM9 Firmware Version 5.01

Why rather this than everything being rolled into one update for each unit? I don’t think anybody should be flamed for it but it does seem like it would make sense, no? I guess the flip side is the III gets all of the “epiphanies” but surely it’s easier to just roll out one update as and when?
  40. R

    FM9 Firmware Version 5.01

I totally get that but… it’s not even close to as frequent I guess is what I’m saying. It’s an observation rather than a criticism. It’s not like the current FW doesn’t sound amazing.

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

Whilst I do agree with you, the reported Kemper latency vs the result I got aren’t a million miles away so it makes me think that whilst it’s probably not a 1:1 accuracy re the samples it’s not wildly incorrect. MORE THAN HAPPY to be wrong however! Edit: Also, I watched Leo Gibson’s videos on...

I didn't use USB. I went analog I/O using an Apollo Twin X Quad, subtracting the 179 samples that the interface needs to do its thing. FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

Not really. As I said, in itself it’s not an issue. The issue starts to manifest when you’re maybe using a digital wireless, going into digital desks, maybe digital IEM transmitters etc. It can build up. Every gig I do is on ears so it can be noticeable, as it was with an early Quad Cortex...

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

    I haven’t but I’d be curious
  62. R

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

Well, I suppose if you only use an amp and cab. The max I can get it to is 5.6ms which isn’t bad alone but the cumulative latency of your whole system is the concern I guess. I just assumed it would be lower.
  63. R

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

This is apparently what slows the Quad Cortex down between Rows on the grid so it makes sense?
  66. R

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

Yeah in and of itself it’s not particularly bothersome or noticeable but on some shows I use a Sennheiser EW-D wireless which has 2ms which can start to become more noticeable. Plus then once I go into the desk, digital IEMs are sent to me and so on…
  67. R

    FM9 Latency - Around 5ms?

Does this sound right? I'm getting around 202 samples / 4.2ms with just an amp and cab block in the grid. This increases to 235 samples / 4.9ms with a drive block. Adding a delay and reverb doesn't seem to affect it. FWIW, just an input and output block shows as 87 samples or 1.81ms. Granted...

Which model for a late 70s JMP master volume style?

The Brit 800? I was thinking Plexi 2204 but from memory it sounds a little dark for what I’m thinking so more along the lines of the Brit 800? The early 800s were basically rehoused JMPs, right? And the Brit 800 model is an early example of the 2204 if I remember correctly. As a reference -
