You might want to have a look at a Dynacord AXM 12A - very similar spec to the CLRs. Edit: I've noticed a few favorable reviews around the Fractal forum. Over here in a land down under they are significantly cheaper than the CLR & also comes with 3 year warranty vs 1 ... so it might be of...

"Amp In The Room" tone with headphones?

Maybe the effect that sound has on your skin (or lack of when using headphones in a low db environment) has something to do with it ... For me using headphones (but not feeling the effect on my skin) is a bit like eating with a peg on my nose - I can't taste the food!!! :)
