I've run into this two times this weekend too. I do change presets and scenes using midi in + manual selection via footswitches. After the footswitches stop working I have to restart the unit to make them respond again. I'm on FW 5.02. Still need to figure out what specific constellation it is...

I'm using my FM3 with a Mac Book as well. Never had any issues with connecting. In case you have USB hubs involved try to connect directly/without the hub. Restarting the Mac might help as well. I'm btw. connecting using a USB extension cable & a hub/docking station - still it works...

Every pickup - even from the same type - has different output characteristics. Therefor I guess there is no "switch" solution to that problem .. But if I'm not wrong "input trim" is exactly what you are looking for...
