New Axe-Fx III vs used Axe-Fx II?

I had crazy good tones on the original Ultra as well. I did notice an improvement going to the 2XL in the sound of distorted palm mutes, but no complaints on the Ultra. I did half of my album with it and those songs sound spectacular tone-wise.

Axe-FX II DAW plugin?

Agreed. Personally, I record all guitar tracks with my Thermionic plugins on the bus. Then when it's time for mixdown, I re-amp through the Axe-Fx, but it's not with me for the actual recording process. Too much to lug around with my mobile setup.

The Character knob is AWESOME

That would depend on a ton of variables what material your pick is made out of and how sharp the edge is. Really if you want to decrease the pick sound just pick softer and usually legato whenever possible.

Right, I did this already, and found out that I need to run ASIO4ALL so I can hear the full mix in context with the re-amp. I can plug my headphones into my onboard sound card to hear the mix. Thanks.

You can send through an output and monitor/record on any track's input. But you need a separate output (and therefore a different interface as well) to hear the full mix, since there's only one output for the Axe-FX interface.

I don't think you fully understood my post. I can restore the presets I made and backed up, no problem. I want to get the *factory presets* back. When I "restore" those, I get 384 slots of "empty". Thanks for the reply.

I've been having a problem with Axe-Edit copying large groups of my presets to other banks. No idea when this is happening, but I never go past preset #45, and I see multiple copies of everything I made in the lower 45, showing up above that. Whatever. Not particularly worried about that bug...

Thank you everyone. I would prefer that this thread ends at this point. I have plenty of workarounds and things to try. Although it is rather strange that real drive pedals are basically unusable on input 1, but maybe that's expected. I have no idea.

Yeah for a bunch of pages there I was not giving an inch. So you're partly right about my attitude. No harm done. No one has commented on laughyeraxoff's findings on using a real drive pedal into input 1 though.

I use the Bogners too. They sound great and have plenty of gain. Jim doesn't wax pot because it robs tone. But he uses an alternative method. They are potted.

I haven't seen a chart of their response. They aren't crazy treble like "Screamin Demons" though, I can tell you that much. First thing I'm going to try is less volume and high cut on the drive block until just shy of the point where I think it doesn't sound good.

Yes. When recording I've had to bump down the Master fader in my DAW somewhat when monitoring the signal when at 50%. There may be some input gain I can add in the MOTU control panel, I'll take a look. Pickups are some of the best pickups on the planet. This set here. His company wins pickup...

We have different ears I suppose. I can hear the attack of each note on my patches. Maybe not so much as if I used less gain. But actually I like legato playing better most time - it's less percussive and smoother. So maybe I want less attack and transient? It sounds good to me.

It's not "a patch". I have like 15 lead / rhythm patches and they ALL have this problem on the 2XL. I like the way the TS alters the tone of the amp (more gain), so I'm not changing it. It's not "the same settings as the Ultra" of course. But it sounds similar. I'm not clipping input or output...

Just thought of one more thing to try. Plugged into the rear input instead with the same settings. NO SQUEAL!! So my conclusion is that this is a software bug or side effect having to do with the "special sauce" on the front input.

I didn't use pre-eq. I didn't boost high frequencies purposely, but someone said the drive pedal I used does boost them as a side effect. This problem never happened on my Ultra with the same setup by the way.

laughyouraxeoff has exactly the same problem. I spoke with him on the phone. Is it normal with a real amp? I don't know, I tried a real amp, not with a drive pedal, but I'm not going to turn the amp up to 11 and see if it happens. That would be more a feedback problem of massive speaker volume...

I get feedback when I stop playing on some of my rhythm patches???

I didn't try it because to figure out what's going on, I want to be using the least amount of pieces. To find out if it happened without the speaker on, I'd have to insert a recording device into the equation. Nothing else to prove it otherwise.

Rolling back volume or tone gets rid of the squeal. If doesn't "change" it just stops at a certain point.

Nothing I'm sure. But I didn't want to put an interface into the equation (like a MOTU). This is the most stripped down findings I could do.

Final report, can't think of anything else to try. My patch output volume is about 3-4dB below what would clip the outputs, by the way. If I turn the output1 volume past half (12 o'clock) it starts squealing when I'm not playing. Only with the Ibanez guitar, not with the McNaught. This is just...

I have the MOTU Traveler. All the inputs are XLR/1/4" jacks. I'm using the 1/4" part.

Well I know I'm not clipping the inputs on the MOTU (it has LED meters), but not sure about running direct into the monitors (there's no clip LED). I still get the squealing when running through the MOTU though. I'll test if the squealing happens with the monitors turned off and output on 100%.

I'm not sure the tweeter squeal thing makes sense that it only happens when I put the output volume close to 100%, regardless of speaker volume...

Ok thanks to Jezza's prompting, I eliminated one variable when I started to think outside the box. The difference between my gig monitors and studio monitors was because I CRANK output1 which goes to my computer / studio monitors, but output2 going to my gigging monitor was on maybe 40%. When I...

Yes I always have a boost of the TS-808 with the volume all the way up and no gain. And that's the way I like the sound. I mean I can test it without it but even if it doesn't squeal I don't think that's an acceptable option for me.

Right on, will try. I tried using all coated springs and scraping off the end, but it didn't behave as expected so I left one uncoated spring and that worked. I'll try the foam test the next guy said too :) I'm not sure if it's only the bridge pickup or both that have the problem, I didn't try...

I'm inserting an intact section of tubing cut to lenght eh? Would have to be a pretty precise diameter to get in there and not slide around I think. What do you push it in with a tiny screwdriver or something? Also, those coated springs I think are meant to solve the same problem. So do I only...
