Is there any point in buying a traditional amp after owning a II.

I prefer an actual amp over the axe sims. I just love my red plate black loop combo. If it ain't broke....... I use the axe along with it sometimes into the loop of pedal pro unit and sometimes I use an all pedal setup with it. It sounds great no matter what I use.

    Shimmer reverb

Yes I did but that's the one that had those synth pads underneath. I tried getting rid of the transpositions but it's still not exactly what I was looking for although it's a very cool sound.
  6. G

    Shimmer reverb

I tried preset 375 but I want those pads without transposition twirling around more like a synth pad underneath. Will try the crystals too but I'm looking for more reverb than delay type of sound. Wish we had a shimmer setting on the reverb block.

    Shimmer reverb

I know this can be done just not sure how to get that synthesizer type sound on the reverb. Any help would be appreciated. http://youtu.be/qyW21pr9I0E

    New Scene Controllers?

I see what your saying. The expression pedal works for me because I'm running 4 of them with my lf jr+ . For me I would rather keep an extra ia for other things rather than switching scenes but I totally can see your point if your using 2 expression pedal.
  9. G

    New Scene Controllers?

You can also just attach an expression pedal the reverb and use it to adjust the amount. I also don't get the point of scenes but if it works for people great.

Props to cliff and fractal on the reverb

I'm all for upgrading the fx, although I think they're pretty good to begin with. The delays are pretty close to the big boys for an exception of a few sounds that I was able to get with the eventide time factor that I can't recreate. I like the ring mod. The pitch based fx could use some...

Props to cliff and fractal on the reverb

I know what you're saying but In my first thread I didn't say that the reverb sucked nor did I demand for anything to be done it was an observation and a comparison. Nowhere did I say that it's a piece of crap or demand anything. Anyway thas old news the good thing is there is a major...

Props to cliff and fractal on the reverb

I really don't understand why people take this stuff personally. After all isn't this why you have an open forum? Props to cliff and fractal on the reverb

Just a few day ago I was complaining on a thread about the thin quality of the reverb and people got kind of upset when I said my hardwire reverb pedal sounded better than the axe verb. At that point it actually did to me. I had a fellow fractal user over and we tried everything to match the...

I really don't care if people get pissed off. My opinion is my opinion. No I have no clips because I don't own any recording equipment. Disappointed in the reverb

I like a lexicon reverb that fastens the sound and gives it depth. I would get the lexicon pcm 80 or 90 but i need a few other things like pitch shift and ring mod along with crystals. I have said I don't hate the axe reverb but also I don't love it. Actually as cliff suggested and then deleted...

    Disappointed in the reverb

I hear you guys. I know it can be worked with I'm just discussing an overall thinness that I can't seem to shake. I'm not saying that it's a crap reverb either and it's definitely enough to gig with but there is lots of room for improvement in the fx department especially reverb. The hardwire...
  23. G

    Disappointed in the reverb

I just think it sounds thin and kind of fake. I used the high cut and I don't think it's about that. It's just the way it sounds overall, it's kind of hard to described in words but kind of synthetic.

    Disappointed in the reverb

I have had the axe almost from the ultras first appearance. I have tweaked every parameter there is to try and I know what I hear. Certain thing you can't tweak out its just the sound.

    Disappointed in the reverb

I'm a long time axe user going back to the early days of the ultra and now I'm using the two. First I wanna say that i no longer have any interest in amp modeling and I was using the axe as a all in one fx unit into my red plate combo. I got fed up with the drives and wah in the axe to the point...

Effects comparison of the eclipse to the axe

Has anyone compared the effect quality of these units back to back? I'm not talking about any modeling or versatility I know the axe does more, just the quality of fx such as reverb, delay, crystals and harmonizer. Drives I'm not concerned with I don't use the axe for that anymore. Thanks for...

What do you guys think of the audio quality using the 4CM method?

I have been using the axe not in 4cm but straight in to my amp. The reason is my amp is set on clean and I get all my gain from the axe. I have been getting very good results that way but there is definitely some loss of tone from the converters. I got used to it and used the eq to get it as...

I'm having a little crisis in confidence...

I do that too. I stopped chasing the in room sound with a modeler syndrome. Now I just put the amp In a room and run the axe fx through it. Asking the Pro's: Does it get any better than this?

I still prefer the real tube amp experience. I stopped trying to reproduce the amp live thing. To me it's just easier to use an amp. With that being said, I notice a major improvement in the modeling.
  35. G

How do you feel about the drives now?

Yes those sounds are high quality no doubt.

How do you feel about the drives now?

    No I haven't. I will give it a try.
  37. G

How do you feel about the drives now?

I don't use the amp modeling actually. I use the axe as virtual pedal board in to a tube amp so I was just talking about the drive block on its own. I do use the sims to practice with headphones and i hear major improvements in the sims from what I can hear on the phones.
  38. G

How do you feel about the drives now?

Yes some of the pedal are much improved. The TS sounded better for sure the Ac boost sounds muddier but I was able to control it with low cut. There was an improvement for sure but it needed lots of tweaking IMO. It was just so much easier with the pedal pro to dial in a great drive tone, it...

Can this unit give the axe a run for its money in the fx department?

After comparing the units today going into the same amp and using the same guitar, the pedal pro beat the axe in the distortion and wha department, no doubt. It sounded great with the base sounds and needed very little tweaking, also had a warm analog 3d quality to it. With the new firmwear the...

How do you feel about the drives now?

I compared the axe today with a unit called pedal pro and i have to say the pedal pro a programmable analog multi fx unit beat the axe in the drive and wha department hands down. It's not nearly as versatile and has about half the fx in it but the fx it has are just very pure and warm and easy...

How do you feel about the drives now?

Just curious if anybody has the actual pedal to compare? I like the improvements I think it's a step in the righ direction for sure. I'm getting a chance to test this thing out on Saturday. I'm bringing my rig including the axe to see if there is a big difference between them. I will post my opinions on this soon.I'm really hoping the new firmwear dropes so I can see the difference in the drives and wha's, that is my main...

This is what Pete said about it on his forum. PETE THORN from the forum 'The drive is really nice, I think like any drive it depends on what amp you run into, of course. Best to try with your rig (I know this can be hard). The chorus is outstanding. As is the compressor, phase, flange...

I just believe the liquid foot is a more versatile controller. It's smaller and the ia switches can serve dual functions the MfC can't do that as far as know.
  57. G

    A Vintage Guy And The Axe-FX 2

Liquid foot+ I think will also do the trick as far as switching is concerned.
  58. G

    A Vintage Guy And The Axe-FX 2

I agree with jb. I run my rig the same way. Works like a charm. You just can't beat a top of the line tube amp for the kind of situations your talking about no matter how much the modeling has improved.

Can this unit give the axe a run for its money in the fx department?

It's not that I would use this with the axe. I would use it instead. As I have said before the drives and wha's are a bit weak to me and I'm wondering if this maybe a better solution. But the fact that this doesn't have verb is major issue for me, so for now I will stick with the axe. I really...

Is there midi capability to control both units with one controller? Would all the sounds be extensible within it? Lets say pitch, reverb and a long digital delay on the axe and everything else on the pedal pro.

Can this unit give the axe a run for its money in the fx department?

It's a different approach it's not a modeler. The axe has great sounds and flexibility but I think lacks in a few areas like the drive boxes and wha's IMO. Maybe the fact that this thing is analog it can be better than the axe in these areas. also i dont think that those areas are a priority for...

I don't know if close mic the only way to AB. How about a room mic in the same location? then you can see what projects and caries sound better. It has to move air like an amp to me. Recording is only one thing and the axe records well because you get the pure clean signal, without relying on...

Those would all be great additions and I think most have been requested several times. I compared the actual zen drive to the one in the axe and the pedal had so much more depth and 3d like quality to it. maybe the mimic technologie can get it closer, I hope. Cliff did mention that it can be...
