    Favorite foot switch setup

I have my banks set up by favorite amps (I almost never move out of the bottom 20 presets because of that). Bottom row are the same scenes for every amp (Clean, Clean w/ Delay, Crunch, Lead w/delay), then the top row for specific effects that are by default turned off for each scene, but which I...

    Fractal or Kemper

My first post ever here on the Fractal forums was about this very question. I got flamed a little, about "this has been talked about to death", but there were some really helpful people (especially M@tt) that helped honestly answer my questions, so I'll try to do the same. I've owned the...

Ax8 at church this past weekend!

Well, that's true. But one doesn't have to be "good" to make sure the instruments are on and coming through FOH. That just requires basic competency, and anyone who can push a button should be able to make that happen. (Keyword "should"...I know it doesn't always actually happen. The struggle is...

Ax8 at church this past weekend!

You need better sound people then. I've gone FOH 100% since I got the Axe-Fx II and now AX8, and I've never had a problem. At all. The acoustic simulation is pretty good. Certainly works in a pinch when you can't swap guitars. As far as I know, the AX8 has all of the same effects as the FX8...

Ax8 at church this past weekend!

The male singer is...not great. Nor is the mix, though that's typical when they're going direct from the board. The guitar, when you can hear it, sounds great though. Thumbs up to AX8.

    AX8 Pedalboard Build

For sure. I almost never use the "Robo" side, lol. But as a filter, I haven't found one I like more. It's got its own thing going on. I find too many filters are either not subtle enough, or don't quite sound right...I'm not sure. But the Robotalk hits the spot, lol.
  16. mbrown3

    FX loop too quiet

OK I have had a loop block in my presets since I got the AX8 and haven't had any trouble with it. After the recent firmware upgrade, though, I'm having the same issue as the OP. It's super quiet. I'm using a Digitech Jamman instead of an H9 though. But I've tried all of the suggestions here and...

    AX8 Pedalboard Build

I have yet to get the AX8 close to the Robotalk. I'm not saying it can't, as I haven't really put that much time in. But the Robotalk is such a unique pedal...very different from most other filters.

    AX8 V7.01 Public Beta

Sorry for my ignorance, but I've only ever used a compressor at the beginning of the chain, and even then only sparingly...or just let the engineers work their magic (and I haven't paid much attention). When you guys say after the amp...where, exactly? Between amp and cab? Or just anywhere after...

What are the differences between expression pedals?

I have a Moog on my board and it works great. No complaints at all. Compared to other pedals I've used, the sweep is much smaller. But I literally only use it for a volume pedal and it's perfect for that. I got used to the sweep pretty quickly. No issues with durability or function at all.

    AX8 V6.01 Public Beta

I've been having an issue with the AX8 that seems similar. *BRAND NEW* AX8 Labelling System imminent!! Next gen KickTags launching in September!!!

Question: how come not a single vertical block for the F1 and F2 switches? Seems like those would still move (and, in fact, those are often the ones that move the most for me due to foot movement). Otherwise they look great. I also hope I can just buy the surrounds and blank spacers, though I'd...

How many traded the Axe Fx II for the AX8? Thoughts and why?

What ratsgym said. My needs are pretty simple and I never used 2 amps anyway. I liked the idea of it more than actually finding it useful. The only thing I miss is the extra processing power, but not for 2 amps...for extra effects. I barely use more than a handful (especially at once) but I do...

Show Us Your AX8 Rig! (post your pics)

I don't think everyone is. I do because I like the Turbo Tuner WAY better than the on-board one (no offense to those who like the one in the AX8). It's faster and more accurate, and easier for me to use in live settings. Plus you can run it always-on (though I don't always), something you can't...

What Are Your Favorite Clean Tones

Agree about the Shiva, though I find the default settings on the Axe/AX8 darker than I ever had my real Shiva set. But that's easy enough to adjust. Love the Double Verb, Band Commander, Bassman models, and Supertweed. Just depends on what I'm going for.

Help matching a few Pink Floyd tones

Thanks mmpete. The problem with the first video is that the tone isn't actually remotely close to sounding like Gilmour's. The 2nd one is closer, but of course it's not using an Axe. Plus the flat singing. ;)

Why do peeps use an external tuner in their rig ?

I use the Turbo Tuner and am unlikely to switch. It's just so darn fast, plus I like the visual method better than the one on the Axe. The Axe/AX8 one may be accurate, but it's also a lot slower (don't jump all over me people, I'm not saying it's slow, just slower than the TT). Plus I can have...

Help matching a few Pink Floyd tones

Yeah I'm less concerned with the guitar and phrasing/touch side of things...more concerned about matching the tone (as much as possible) in the AX8. Also the presets I've found don't try to match the Pulse tones. The production of the Wall will match the Wall's tones...I very much want the Pulse...

Help matching a few Pink Floyd tones

OK, so from the tone gurus I could use some help matching a few tones from Pink Floyd's Pulse album (specifically those version of the songs vs the originals). First is the lead tone at the beginning of What Do You Want From Me - 0:19 to 0:36 (my favorite lead tone of all time) Second is the...

    Set Hold Switch functions globally?

Well I guess it depends on how you use things. I have never (ever, ever) used the Y state of anything. I just don't need multiple options for single effects. I'm a simple guy. That said, I would use more effects than I can fit on the switches currently. I don't really care about the display, I...

    Set Hold Switch functions globally?

Nope, I was talking about the main footswitches. But I guess I don't understand why they only control x/y. It would be a lot more versatile to allow those to toggle one effect or another. For example, if a preset has both compressor and envelope filter, why can't tap control compressor and hold...

X-Files: "One Night in Akron" w/ Neil Zaza & the AX8

Yeah man, I'm Alright has one of my favorite guitar riffs of all time. I met Neil a bunch of years ago (like in 1999 or something) at a guitar clinic in Philadelphia with Bill the Buddha Dickens and Bobby Rock (who are both awesome) and he's a super nice guy. I've been following him ever since.

    AX8 Wishes

I think what they are talking about is not the fact that they are highlighted, it's the way that they are highlighted. It appears that they are hard to see the current way. Can someone with an AX8 confirm?
  52. mbrown3

    AX8 Wishes

For many of us, that's not the reason for wanting global blocks. For me (for example), I use a volume block in every preset so I can use my expression pedal as a volume control. EVERY preset. So it would be nice to set that as a global block I can easily copy or pull up for all of them.

    Standalone Audio Interface

You really don't need a thunderbolt interface. USB has plenty of bandwidth for audio applications. The other concern is the danger that it will become obsolete (not right now, but maybe down the road), similar to what happened with Firewire...which came after USB but went away faster. Folks...

    Any Former Kemper Users Here?

We'll have to agree to disagree. Most musicians, in my experience, LOVE options (even when really, deep down, they don't use them or need them), and theoretically...yes, being well informed...the KPA should have been a better choice for me (see my original post on the topic). But it turned out...
  57. mbrown3

    Any Former Kemper Users Here?

I don't think things are that simple. Because in my case, the KPA seemed like a no-brainer choice. Until I used one. The Axe was better for me, but I wouldn't have known that until I tried both. I don't think it's a no-brainer in anywhere near 99% of cases.
  58. mbrown3

    Any Former Kemper Users Here?

I'm not sure that's different. One user with certain needs. Other users may have different needs. But ultimately everyone needs to decide based on what they want. Not sure what your point is.
  59. mbrown3

    Any Former Kemper Users Here?

Agree. It's largely dependent on what you're looking for. Still, for me...I'm a pretty basic guy at heart. I use pretty basic amp tones (though I use a bunch of different ones), some delay, and some reverb, for the most part. I don't use a lot of the esoteric effects, etc. So in theory the KPA...

    Any Former Kemper Users Here?

My introduction to both was when a local studio asked me to record some clips with them. I borrowed the Kemper (have never owned one) for a few weeks. AX8 Ableton

Axe edit during practice is fine, but I wouldn't use it in performance. It will lag and glitch with it open. Just close it down. If you absolutely need to use it, you can change things in between songs, but remember to hit the "pause" button before a song.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" 2.00 Public Beta Numero Tres

As I said, lots of people say they haven't had any issues doing it, yet there are also a bunch of folks (myself included) that have had it cause problems. That may or may not be what is happening for Emangboro63, but it at least gives him something to try.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" 2.00 Public Beta Numero Tres

I don't think it matters, nor am I sure that's your particular issue. I just know I've had a couple of issues with the MFC acting weird after an update that went away when I unplugged and re-did the update. I've since unplugged it every time and haven't had an issue since then.
  79. mbrown3

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" 2.00 Public Beta Numero Tres

Did you leave the MFC plugged in when you updated? I know lots of guys have done this and it's worked fine, but the only issues I've had with the MFC after an update were because I had left it plugged in. Now I always unplug it, run the update, and then plug it back in.
  80. mbrown3

    upgrade process

Always make a backup first. If there are any of your go-to presets that you feel have changed significantly, you can pretty easily reload the backup, check the settings for those amps, and then reload the newest firmware and recreate those changes. Otherwise it's pretty straightforward.

Tuner accuracy and guitar set up

This is interesting. I've only ever tried the Axe's tuner with the MFC, and it doesn't hold a candle to the Turbo Tuner. WAY slower and nowhere near as accurate. I may have to try via the front panel. That might make a difference for intonation, although for live tuning I'm not sure how...

Tuner accuracy and guitar set up

I don't even use my Axe for tuning, let alone setups. No offense to the built-in unit, but it's significantly slower and less accurate than my Turbo Tuner. For setups, you probably want a bench tuner like the Peterson strobe. Kudos to the built-in tuner for allowing offsets, though...that...
