Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

The FM9 sounds fantastic and is very responsive. As others have said, it's a real "sweet spot" IMO. I've been gigging the FM3 with an FC6 for some time now, and it's been great. With the FM9, I've now got more power and sonic options in basically the same footprint.

Fractal Audio FM3 vs AX8 | Raw Amp Comparison

Let me share a little of my experience on this topic. When we were working through the beta phase on FM3 development, the first thing I did was to replicate the main tones that I had used on my AX8 for years. I did this by using the same cab IR's and going through every parameter in the amp...

Why did/would you choose FM3 over Axe FX III?

One big deal for me is the flexibility to just bring what I need. When I do an electric guitar gig, the FM3 with an FC6 and an expression pedal are very portable but powerful. When I do a mandolin gig or am just playing bass, Chapman Stick or acoustic guitar, the FM3 by itself (with the three...

My "use it 90% of the time" preset

Got it. Thanks. No, I don't use Toggle on Scene Select, but it's absolutely there on the FM3. When I play live, it's mostly in a band with no keyboard player so I find myself doing lots of ambient bits to create pad-like textures during quiet parts of songs and then jumping back and forth to...

My "use it 90% of the time" preset

Great comment and one of my favorite tools. For those starting to dive deeper into their Fractal, this is exactly what this preset takes advantage of. Notice that the Shiva (clean) uses a FullOD boost at 12.96db vs the other amps where I left the boost type neutral. You really change the...

My "use it 90% of the time" preset

Sure... It's pretty easy, really. The FM3 has 6 "Control Switches" that can be assigned to various parameters in a block. These Control Switches do not change in any way when you switch scenes. In this preset, I simply assign one of these control switches to the "Bypass" button of a block...

My "use it 90% of the time" preset

I mentioned over in this thread (https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/lets-see-those-fm3-rigs.158779/) that I tend to use one preset 90% of the time live, and that it's configured so scenes 1 through 4 switch Amp/Cab block channels while leaving all but one of the effects blocks unchanged from...

Not the greatest photo, but here's my FM3 and FC6 with a single expression pedal. Perfect for me. I use one preset 90% of the time live I use 4 Scenes to change Amp/Cab block channels (Clean, Crunch, Classic High Gain, Modern High Gain) Switches on the FM3 switch the 4 scenes, recall my main...

External Reverb pedal with FM3 - Recommendations

The Plex Delay block in the FM3 has a great Shimmer Reverb effect in it. The same block also has a Plex Reverb effect which is more of a traditional reverb that can get super ambient if you need it. Simple channel switching between the two types works great. You could easily use all four...

    What's your footswitch setup?

I have a little different setup that works great for me. I use 8 presets this way. All 8 foot switches are set as IA switches when the unit powers on. I use F1 to turn all 8 switches to non-sticky preset selection. When I want to select a new preset, I hit F1 then one of the 8 switches. The...

AX8 Takes a Different Way of Thinking.... How do you set switches for live use?

8 instant access switches to turn blocks on and off. F1 turns them into 8 preset selections (non sticky). F2 turns them in to X/Y (non sticky). F3 mute/tuner. Very flexible. Don't use scenes myself as I never know what effects I may or may not want ahead of time.

AX8 and CLR - need some noob basics

Two things to consider that I do with my AX8 and CLR. 1. I sometimes pull a few db's out notched around 2.2 khz to give my patches a little less bite. Go the other way to increase bite. Usually do this somewhere in the chain after the amp block. 2. I always feed the FOH with the output from...

Rhythm to Lead Live - What's your setup?

Basically you've nailed it. Use scenes to switch blocks on or off as needed, one of which turns the volume up a bit for solos. My set up turns the volume up (end of the chain) and turns on a fairly subtle 370ms delay for body. I also give the filter a little bump in the mid-high range for a...
