Have you found “your” amp in the FM3?

The AC20 (and all the other Vox-style models) also sound great with greenback IRs. I use Leon Todd's TV Mix IR with AC20 often.

But the new album is great and the live show is just incredible. I love what Colin did in that band, but you have to admit his style of play just didn't fit these new songs.

Have you found “your” amp in the FM3?

What do you do to get the rhythm channel tone? Do you start with the Deluxe Reverb model or something else? I think the Imperial is cathode bias, no negative feedback so I bet the FAS Class A amp model is pretty close (blackface preamp w/ cathode-biased 6L6 power amp).

    FM3 Firmware Version 5.03

If any compromise is needed, it shouldn't be amp or cab block. I can use a reverb or delay pedal with my FM3 if needed. I can use an overdrive pedal. I bought the FM3 for the amps and cabs, and they can't be substituted too easily. That being said, this is all silly speculation, and really just...

Drive blocks for dirt? Amp block? Both?

Tuner indicator motion is choppy after upgrading to 5.01

I think I agree. 5.02 is better than 5.01, but I don't think it's as good as it was in earlier firmware. I'm not downgrading to compare, just from memory.
  22. JRFarmer

    FM3 Firmware Version 5.02

That's called a selection bias. You're reading the thread on a Fractal Audio forum, the people who use this forum are mostly current Fractal customers. If you go to a Line 6 forum, you'd find the same thing in their favor.

Am I crazy for liking a stomp box sim as a Marshall sound?

I like using drive pedals on clean-ish amps, especially the Vox-style amps. But I do find the amp model doesn't matter very much in that scenario. The drive model and the cab model are much more important than the amp model for this setup.

I think FX8 and AX8 are the only exceptions to this. When FM3 launched the AX8 stopped getting firmware updates. I don't think the FM3 will get the same treatment, because the FM3 and FM9 share a common platform.

Fatigue with the "I am hitting the CPU limits" on the FM3 talk???

@bleujazz3 but also the forum is searchable. And so is YouTube. The best students are the ones that actually want to learn and invest the time. The worst students are the ones that just ask for the answers without looking for them first.
  41. JRFarmer

Fatigue with the "I am hitting the CPU limits" on the FM3 talk???

The CPU limit complaints are almost as annoying as the footswitch count complaints. Also, the constant "is the modelling really good enough?" questions from lazy customers is annoying, too.

    Getting paralyzed by options

This. All day this. Fewer blocks always sounds better to me, and has the side effect of limiting the urge to tweak. If your preset looks like a public transit map, just delete it and start over.

Should I do a soft reset on my main gigging presets on the new 4.0 Firmware??

Nobody is forcing you to take firmware updates. This is a pretty simple trade-off: either you (1) stay on the firmware you've got and no need to worry, or (2) take the update and rework your presets.
  44. JRFarmer

Should I do a soft reset on my main gigging presets on the new 4.0 Firmware??

I don't understand all this reset angst. Save your preset to another location on the FM3, do the reset on your original preset, play guitar and see how it sounds. Switch back and forth between the reset and the un-reset presets. Which do you like better? Why is this even worth discussing?

  57. JRFarmer

This would be nice, if possible?

This is a weird place to make that request. I find you get more mileage out of the gear if you learn to dial in your own tones. I watch Leon's videos because he shows me how to do that. I almost never download his presets.
