    Modes, help a theory idiot

Just one quick question for people who get all this stuff as second nature. I have been told opposite things by musicians I have talked to about modes and chord progressions. Some say that given a normal chord progression (without abrubt key changes or sneaked in chords) you can get its key and...

    Spiky highs

For a Mesa Mark amp a treble of 7.20 is not high, but pretty much normal. Bass nearly at 0 is also a must. In these amps, the eq knobs don't actually eq the tone, but control gain and flub. It's the graphic eq that is really equing. My guess is that you're playing with a too hard pick.

    Axe-Fx II Technical Questions Thread

It looks like the one big hurdle separating me from my linux-ready axefx 2 is a firmware loader, not the money. If needed I could point to an open-source linux kernel driver that does exactly that, upload some propietary binary-blob firmware to a usb audio interface that then works as a standard...

Native axe-edit support would be awesome and probably now easier than ever now that it can work with midi over usb. But what I really meant is plugging the axefx 2 directly to a linux box and record, reamp direct and all the other cool things you will be able to with macs and windows boxes...

    Atomic amp with Axe-FX

I think you are misunderstanding what the atomics and the axefx actually are an can do. I'd suggest researching a bit more so that when you spend the money you have a deeper understanding of what you are buying and its capabilities. -The atomic is not a "head" amp, it's just a power amp or a...

anyone using a STANDARD as an effects only unit?

Bought a SS Power Amp, Help me not blow my speakers.

Your speakers are not going to magically blow the moment you connect the poweramp to them because they have too much power, it depends on the volume you send them. If you keep it at the same levels you usually play with your drummer, you should be safe. From the poweramp to the cabinet you...

I think you don't understand what the air parameter does. It mixes dry signal with your "wet" cab signal. Freq is just the cutoff frequency and you have to turn it up quite a lot to hear anything. I just suggested turning it up to the max as it will be more audible there. A notch filter is a...

Re: question about cab sims vs real cabs....FRFR vs cabs/mic It is not easier, it's just that you are (I assume) not doing all of the work. Let me explain, when you dial in a tone with a cab, you just care about what you hear from the playing position, which is usually very off-axis. Most of...

    Tube Amp Fidelity

The moment you go FRFR you shouldn't expect the same experience (as in different, not worse). It will be more like a refined studio/recording sound as opposed to a raw in the room tone. For example, FRFR systems try to sound as uniform as possible even if you move around, and guitar cabinets...

With IRs based on open-back cabinets played thru a regular FRFR, you don't get the "whole" open-back experience, you just get what "the audience" or the mic hears. In fact, with real open-back cabinets most of the times only the player gets it and some other band member if lucky, so it is...

The other solution is adding weight to the cab, which is probably more uncomfortable to carry. If you use an axefx you are not likely to use anything else in your rack apart from the poweramp. Fully discrete stereo with amp sims?

The ultra will enable you to run more fx blocks at once. The axefx lets you add fx blocks until it runs out of CPU power, so you will hit the limit sooner with the standard. A standard will let you run more or less two independent lines each with and amp, a cab sim and a couple of simple fx...

The axefx alone can't, it doesn't have the outputs. But many midi controlles have them, for example, the Behringer FCB 1010 has at least two, and you can program them to switch with your patches. Do you really need to swtich all 3 options on the fly?

Fully discrete stereo with amp sims?

I'm not from the company but I can tell you it can be easily done. For what you want to do, you might be better off with an ultra, although a standard might be enough if you don't use too many fx.
