    It's been an interesting run

My point on the cost was that you had access to 200 amps and everything you need to gig at $4K. If you only use 1-3 amp models, it pulls in the comparison much closer...obviously. As far as the Marshall rig I proposed, I was trying to go apples to apples i.e. buying new for either option. If...

    It's been an interesting run

In the spirit of the OP...I've been toying with this idea too but man, it would be costly for that one sound! The math may be missing some items so rough apples-to-apples: Fractal Setup AxeFX 2 = $2250 MFC = $650 EV-1 Expression Pedal = $140 Atomic CLR = $1000 Rack Holder = $100 TOTAL for 200...

    Sigh... gig failure.

ANY equipment can and will fail...at some point. Yes some equipment is more reliable than others. I'm actually not a Fractal owner at the very moment anymore (decided to change things up) but the only times it ever failed me were due to bad wiring at the rehearsal space, user error, and beer...

    Presets scrolling and won't stop

Just curious if anyone ever had an issue where the preset scroll is stuck in perpetual motion. This is happening on a Axe II XL+ I just sold someone and trying to help out on what it may be short of them opening a ticket or me having to take it back. All was well before I sent it. The things I...

    Line 6 G10

I did give the FW update a shot but it didn't have any effect. What was weird is it worked well for a couple of gigs and then 3-4 gigs in row, the G70 would time out frequently to the point I couldn't count on it live so I gave up. It's not like I was playing some of these gigs in heavy wifi...

For those who have gone AxeFX II to AX8 for live workflow...

Yep...I'm just waiting for my ticket to be called at this point. Right now on my Axe II XL+, I've built it such that I have one patch per guitar that has 5 scenes underneath it which are the clean, med gain, hi gain, lead 1, and lead 2. It's a mix of 4 different amps within the patch. I did it...

Another trick...High Pass / Low Pass

The challenge in all of this is that there are a million and 1 ways to get to the same place with FRFR EQing/. If the G10 is based on the G70/75 tech, I wouldn't personally buy it. The G70 was awful in terms of being susceptible to interference. Suggestions: Humbucker Cleans?

I think you nailed it...single coil clean tones are probably not there unless you could split the humbuckers, or, you'd have to go real low wind...lower than you have on the stock PRS pickups.

    Suggestions: Humbucker Cleans?

The 57/08s should clean up pretty well. The neck and bridge are both in the mid to high 7 range. Looks like the 58/15s are a wider range evolution of the 57/08s with a touch more juice...but less juice than the 59/09s which are hotter. I'm betting you'll be able to get decent cleans on the neck...

    Suggestions: Humbucker Cleans?

Few thoughts... First, your humbucker pickups will have a lot of say in this. The hotter pickups (typically 8K resistance or higher) are tough to get good cleans out of no matter what. My humbucker guitars are set up with a lower wind (low 7K ish or even lower) neck pickup and a slightly pumped...

I'm thinking you're using the amp GEQ just to shape your base sound? I didn't think you could engage the amp GEQ unless you're doing X/Y switching of the same amp. For me, I'm only using the GEQ for my leads to get some volume and push together. Pretty cool though how many ways you can set...

What is your average "Output Level" percentage when playing?

Based on my experience using it so far, it allows you to step out in the mix in a way you couldn't just by raising output level on a scene. You could kind of get there by dialing an amp with the mids pushed and the output level where you want, but the passive EQ seems to do it in a more pleasing...

Output at 75% at current but mainly because that is the only way to get to the headphone level I need going direct into the headphone jack from the Axe 2. I have a little different approach due to some clipping I was getting as far as the VU meter. I look for nor lead patches to fluctuate...

    CabPacks: Re-Released as UltraRes2...

For live use, probably not. For recording...maybe? I decided to re-process them myself but I'm using Ownhammer. Not sure if the Fractal Cab Packs beyond the most recent (captured and processed as UR2) have been redone. FWIW, it does take longer to process compared to before.

    RW cabs

I can only guess that the economics weren't there for Redwirez to redo their library...or they would have done it. Looks like Redwirez was/is an offshoot of Red5 group. http://www.red5group.com/ Or...maybe they're making decent enough return off of this that they don't have to burn more...

One of my favorite guitarists. He gets such great tones onto recordings AND his live sound is great. Just saw them not too long ago in Denver when they toured with the Linkin Park guy. Looks like they're doing an online search for a new lead singer. Would be VERY tough to replace the stage...

    Finding the Low Res Frequency

Got ya...I still think it applies at some level though. Remember, Mikko's post about the Mesa cabs being in the 103 to 106Hz range on the low end (real cab). The stock settings are close to that. Or, you can just simplify the whole thing and do what that one guy said and set to 84Hz for standard...

    Finding the Low Res Frequency

Well, a lot of Axle-ites are OCD! I add myself among them. To Mikko's (ML Labs) point though, just using the default settings and tweaking to taste works well. Adding delay is clipping Output - need a little guidance

Got ya...that's where I arrived too as far as the delay mixes for parellel. Reverb is at 30% input gain...if I even use it. What I meant to clarify were amp block levels for standard patches. A related question to ask here...what level are you guys setting for your base level patches i.e. non lead patches. Speaker Resonating Frequency

The issue I find with this is trying to eyeball and interpret that graph. For 4x12s, I've arrived at 115Hz for an Angled Marshall-type cab, 110Hz for a straight 4x12, and 105Hz for bassier cabs where I need to take some off. To the point of ML Sound Lab, this frequency is key for me. I guess...

Yes! Two fold really. It would be nice if the IR makers who are mostly selling to the AxeFX crowd would supply the speaker tab measures when they sell the cab/speaker packs. One thing to add to here too...don't be afraid to play with the BMT settings. I think it's more of an issue of playing FRFR vs. amp/cab but not sure what they're comparing in that case. The only real apples to apples comparisons of the Axe FX vs. a real tube amp are a) AxeFx amp model + IR vs. the same real amp + same real cab + same real mic(s) and listened to at a...

    New Ownhammer IRs - Questions

Kevin...question for you. Is the Marshall Cab Collection V3 or V4?

Pick up the 1968 Pre-Rola G12M 20Watt and tell me you preferences!

Good to know. Will keep an eye out. Does that mean the 1960AX you have out there now does not have that specific flavor?

Pick up the 1968 Pre-Rola G12M 20Watt and tell me you preferences!

A1 sounds awesome. That is definitely my flavor. Didn't really like the others as much but that one stood out. In comparison to the OH IRs,which I favor at present, A1 was right in that wheelhouse. Rich and woody with the 1959SLP. BTW, does your 1960AX pack have a SM57 IR in that same...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.01 Firmware Release

I ended up starting in and doing just that...resetting the amps as I tested. The only things I change (and lose in a reset) are the speaker tab settings, the overdrive/normal, and the presence.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.01 Firmware Release

Cool news on the CPU drop and patch change speed. Like the performance improvements. What about the sound changes? The treble add is noticeable enough to have to adjust patches? Do you all feel compelled to reset the amp block on this update?

OwnHammer - Vox AC30, Mesa 412, Mesa 212 - The Justin York Collection Volume 1

My favorite of the bunch is the Vox 2x12. I'm using the Left Speaker w/ SM57 in the D4 position and dephase at 3.5 for live/FRFR use. This pairs great with the AC 20 Treble at about 4ish on the gain (depending on guitar). I leave TMB at 5 as that amp has just volume and cut. Cutting to taste...

    Marsh-UK Multi-Cabinet Collection - OwnHammer

I find myself enjoying the OH2-07 and SP2-07 mixes this time out but I'll have to test live which is mostly my use case these days (vs. recording). Fabulous stuff. This could be a one-stop-shop cab pack but I know I'll keep buying! :)

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.00 Firmware Release

Thanks to the whole Fractal team for all the work that is put in to this and everything else you do. These tools have become my musical mainstay going on 5 years now.

    Marsh-UK Multi-Cabinet Collection - OwnHammer

I don't think he uses the specific mic/di method. I'm pretty sure he uses his own techniques but he continues to refine/improve them.

Is Axe Fx too perfect sounding?

To the OPs original question...it is now that Quantum officially released! :)
