Axe-II Sighting- The Edge of U2....

Looks like a TS9 pedal to me. I've heard the IEMs from Portugal where they clearly talk about the fractal and Edge is very positive about the whole thing. Was interesting. Later shows there's no mention of the Fractal for the line out / patching list. Personally I think part of the Edge's show...

I went with the 3U 14" EWI Shock Rack... I'll post pics when I have it all up and running. I also got the cheapest Furman M-8Lx (cause it's the lightest at 5.5 lbs). Should come in at 52lbs in total.

Ben, that's nice. What is the total weight of that? I would recommend you get a 1' IEC power cable. I bought a bunch of those from Sweetwater (I had to call and ask for them) but you can probably find them some place. Cut down on some weight and make it a little neater in the back.

6U Shock Rack? Am I crazy?

I'm considering a 4U shock rack with 14" depth. Just need to work out if I can get the XLRs in the back of the Axe FX II and keep them plugged in. A4UE-14 Shock Mount Case Has anyone managed to do that?

MFC-101 - Construction Issues

I was actually really impressed with the quality of the Midi Controller. I've spent MORE on some other models and they were NOT anywhere as solid as this one. In terms of build quality I would rank this thing > $1k.

So I went back and did it again. I used the MIDI Cables and the walwart to power the MFC-101. The 100% came up and the "upgrade complete" message was there. Again it still does the funky thing. No change. Also when you boot up it has the Restore question and I cannot get it accept Enter etc.

Ah reflash the firmware again. I can try that. I did upgrade the MFC-101 to 1.02 using the Walwart, 5 PIN MIDI Cable & a Midi filer. I guess the issue with the "Restore? Press ENTER" showing up could be linked. Would be nice to work out what is going on there.

Try playing around with the cab choices. If you use HIRES it can chew up a lot of CPU. I am guessing the algorithm for CPU usage% is the two summed togther? But if you have just amps and cab with NOTHING else I don't think it is less than 50%. So the "effect chip" is being used somehow. Will...

Yeah I get the exact same thing when scrolling through presets. It jumps backwards. It's kind of annoying. I was hoping it was just a firmware fix needed. For me it happens with lots of presets.

In non-Axe FX mode though you would have to name the presets etc. which is a bit of hassle (I know I am lazy) I just though it would be cool to be able to quickly create permutations on an Axe FX presets.

Good points, but one thing to point out I think a lot of people who are not even buying are placing (or at least were trying) Axe FX IIs in their cart etc. It might be still a bit crazy with people ditching their carts. I still agree that you should at least have 1 minute to complete your order...

Syncing midi changes for live shows...

I've been doing this for a while now. I show you how to set it up in Logic. I then export the MIDI file from Logic and import it into Ableton Live8. That then controls all the preset changes in line with the click track. Works great!! Here's a video showing how it's done...

Ok so just worked this... I created a External MIDI Track in Logic and then using the event tab created some Program changes and Controller changes for the states of certain blocks. Replayed it and it worked like a charm. I then exported that MIDI track and imported it to Ableton Set the MIDI...

Axe FX with studio monitors. Do I need a sub woofer?

6" Monitors will not sound like a 12" cab for sure. It would sound like a 12" cab if that cab was in another isolated room with a mic on it and you were monitoring. That's the comparison. A Sub will get you closer to that 12" cab sound but it really depends on what you are trying to do. How have...

Wah, Whammy, and Volume pedals.

Cliff- Hoping You'll Update Us On the MFC 101

Seems somewhat logical and reasonable to assume that it could be cash flow for creating such a large batch of units. I am hoping Cliff just wants to come out with tons of them ready to go and not a huge wait list like the early days of the Axe FX Ultra. I would like to hear more about it though...

Wah, Whammy, and Volume pedals.

You would have an Effects Loop block which would activate both the wah and whammy. If you want to control settings on the Whammy then you would need to have presets on the Midi Controller that would send the settings to set both the Axe FX and the Whammy appropriately. If you just want to...

You might want to try Guitar -> Axe FX -> Send -> Whammy -> Wah -> Return -> Axe FX Out This way you can take the Whammy and Wah out of the loop easily when you want to keep your chain pure. You can hook up the Whammy via MIDI if you want to control the settings on it. That makes sense.

Dialing in Tone on Headphones

Sounds like what you are trying to achieve is more like mastering your guitar tone. For that the advice here is good. I wouldn't rule out the headphones though as a piece of that. I use my Sennheiser HD-600 to help dial in tones, I do then take it to other reference systems (Meyers PA), KRK...

Warning on Hosa 7-pin midi cable

Yeap. I don't like those cables either. My Rocktron Midi Mate was elevated because of it etc. If you have it on a pedalboard then you might be able to make it work. I hated it. I bought this cable instead. Awesome, definitely recommend it as the standard for all people wanting a durable 7 PIN...

What audio interface to buy?

I would be interested in this too. I have Logic Studio 8 about to upgrade to Logic 9. I use Ableton Live for Click Tracks etc. I would suggest you get an audio interface that has SPDIF. That's great for the Axe FX. Presonus would be good to look at. I've used Presonus and M-Audi FireWire Solo...

I have the same pickups as Lincoln in my strat. 3 pm is the highest I can go before clipping. As for the output Line Level @ Noon is probably best. Maybe Lincoln doesn't know that noon is line level and just thinks full volume please?

Need help with Axe FX and Logic 8!!!!

Finally worked it out... I had the sample rate for recording in Logic set at 44.1 Khz so I guess that overrides what happens from the interface... Changed to 48 Khz and it works fine.
