My variation on this...load Axe and another soundcard as aggregate device when making changes to the bypass state of a block it'll time out usually the 5th or so time something is switched.

Here's the thing go look in the Axe edit sub forum how long we have had issues with this now... What about 4-5 month. Cliff asked for feedback on this!!! Anyone wish for a better looper?

I'm happy with the looper in the Fx8, time in the axe2 is too short. What if live to have implemented is when I recorded a four bar loop and want to dub a bar loop on top it would literally extend the loop until I stop the dub.

  21. Ed DeGenaro

How do I reamp using Apollo Twin Duo?

Analog reamping is literally for the birds. Digi only when I need to up or down sample the Axe. Otherwise wise always aggregate device, Apollo, Motu 896HD and Axe Fx. In PT I move stuff around cause if the non HD input limit. Anyways this is a cut and paste from the pinned re-amp thread...

what albums has the axe been used on?

I used first the Ultra then the Axe2 on a few albums as well as on this... And IIRC was the first to mention it in print in my Oct/2009 Guitar Player interview. http://www.guitarplayer.com/experimental/1095/ed-degenaro/16377

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.00 Beta

As I said before I didn't care for q8 so much so i rather used Amps or Plugins. PLUS the time out -especially during clinics was just an embarassing time suck. this Beta has me digging it again.
  25. Ed DeGenaro

Since no one will directly ask Cliff about potential new FW...

Let's put it like this the Ultra went til v11...quantum 8 is what v27? Is what it is. However the 5 month of time outs are pretty much what renders the box fairly useless to my work flow.

Why some amps initially sound bad?

In a non MV amp you have one volume control fordullume and gain. The more sensible current day amps let you bypass the master or at least have the amp act like there isn't one when turned up. That is the point on nmv models why the master is up since it really isn't supposed to do squat. As to...

  30. Ed DeGenaro

Why some amps initially sound bad?

Personally I'm no fan of the you need better monitors, and don't use headphones type replies since if I cannot get those to sound OK it's a dialing thing. There is a huge amount if user error when it comes to gear. Particularly dialing it. It takes about 3 seconds to dial an amp in once you...

    Axe Edit constant crashes

Yeah not Cubase...I have this happening in Cubase, Logic, Protools, StudioOne, Main Stage and by itself. 16ohm amp > 8ohm cab?

Will increase mids...just as the inverse will decrease mids.
  33. Ed DeGenaro

Why some amps initially sound bad?

It's just not realistic, an amp responds to the input signal, as it should be. IRs are essentially just different EQ curves super imposed on this. It's the same thing in real life. Lets say I got something dialed in perfectly for me and some one else plays it...it'll sound at the least...
  34. Ed DeGenaro

Why some amps initially sound bad?

Indeed no such thing as flat on a passive tone stack. With clean sounds you can "center" the controls by setting them to noon and moving the bass til you find the dead spot, then do the same with the treble. Go back to bass and redo it since they're super interactive. That gives you and idea of...
  35. Ed DeGenaro

Why some amps initially sound bad?

The obvious answer is that different amp requires an adjustment of how you play it. As for noon settings of tone controls that is useless on gained out designs on clean amps it's a good starting point and then sonically center the controls to hear what the design is intended to sound like. And...

Did an album about 3 decades ago with Skunk producing, this was when he was doing the gig with Entwhistle. Anyways he always tended to favor amps that prolly should be used for pedal steel. I'm not sure I'd think the Bassman or any Fender be a good choice seeing that thise V4s literally are...

In the Spirit of NAMM Anouncements (FAS reactive load box)

That box hosting a load, cab and mic Sims, verb, eq isn't a cab room any more as any Torpedo or Fractal box. And you already have everything to do that inside the Axe or your committee except the load. I'm. Not gonna get into a deep conversation about the MI market or switchable impedance. Have...

That's their suggested retail lol... You know any load with line out for 300+ is hilarious enough as it is. Recently got my first AxeFX-XL, any reason why most presets are "dark" sounding? Is this normal?

Well... Even though I find factory presets 100% useless I get there are others that long for some one telling what constitutes "good". If if it is anything but. In the Spirit of NAMM Anouncements (FAS reactive load box)

That hardly answers why there is an assumption it will be "better". I mean I'm a big fan of Cliff's products but we're talking hardware that supports his software and particularly his software. As I recall Cliff said the box proto sounds better than using a speaker coffin as load, which...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.02 Firmware Release

Asked and answered from the source to turn it down for rhythm tones when toggling scenes. I turned it off since it reminds too much of playing a Guytron amp. Now I might actually use it. In 10 years of using Fractal that is the second time I didn't like a new feature.

And one at 50 and it's over tones... And if you replace the sine the inherent overtones of the particular instrument. And the overdriven the signal is a given since that is what happens with any gear that has non linearities it models them. And if we then look at Class A it gets even funnier...
  57. Ed DeGenaro

    Ghost Notes

By way of how overtones work it's additive. However the biggest thing on it is that it creates an "under tone" and it's harmonic series... Run a sine wave generator if a 100 and 150 hz tine into an analyzer and see what you get.
  58. Ed DeGenaro

    That sucked

In the beginning there was perfect sound then man created rooms.... And all kinda things that super imposed eq curves.... Before actual eq...different shit, well sounds different.

Using FX8 With The Fryette Power Station

  64. Ed DeGenaro

Using FX8 With The Fryette Power Station

That is also just like hum what a ground loop does. It's not something that is "to be fixed' on the PS2 it's what happens when certain gear interfaces. Using humbuster cables and it's doing it? Use a regular cable and lift ground on one end. Marshall style Amps are really prone to this. My 18...

My bad Shimmer Drive is what I'm talking about. As for the 42 it would need a new drive block that reacts like a cranked 42. I'm okay using other stuff for this instead. 93. Ed DeGenaro

For those playing out, who is using a minimal number of presets?

4 presets, 2 that start on a clean scene and two alternates that start on dirty. But they're just variations usually stay on one preset that has two amps cross fading as well as amps, cabs and drives x/y switched with delay, verb, comp, and a few different eqs
