    Marco Sfogli got his Ultra...

Check out James LaBrie's "Elements of Persuasion" too - Marco played guitar on that too and there's some awesome stuff there as well.

    Marco Sfogli got his Ultra...

It most certainly is an Axe-FX Ultra, I was talking to him on IM when he made the patch the other week. Keep in mind though that a lot of the "richness" in the tone has to do with how he's physically playing - the nuances of how he's attacking the strings and so on. Most people can't do what...

    Marco Sfogli got his Ultra...

Some more Marco magic: (I'm the one who challenged him to make the Tuscany patch hehe) http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/28441/RTK.mp3 JP's tone from Raise the Knife on the Score DVD/CD.

    Diezel Vh4

You need to run the VH4 essentially as an "effect" in the Axe-FX's loop. This allows you to use either the real VH4 preamp or the Axe-FX preamp models at will. The routing goes like this: Guitar > Axe-FX Front Panel Axe-FX Out 2 > VH4 Front input VH4 Send 1 > Axe-FX In 2 Axe-FX Out 1 > VH4...

    >>> Axe-Fx Ver 8.05 and Ultra Ver 8.06 Firmware Released <<<

I know for a fact you came to the Axe-FX party late in the game from your posts on the JP forum. Do you have any idea how much free stuff Cliff has given us since the unit was first released? You need to consider that before you post or you're going to sound exactly like someone who is...

Recto owners - Recto sims accurate?

I owned a Road King II a few years ago and I thought that through a tube power amp and cab, the Axe-FX simulation (it was Recto 1 I was using I think) was very very close to the feel of the real thing. It has that low end "sag" or "mush" that happens on the real thing when you play on the lower...

Mark IV tone through Recto cab?

Mesa doesn't make the Traditional Recto cabs anymore - the Stiletto is the same thing though in their current lineup.

Harmonics/ Overtones on the Mark IIC+ Model

Is this on a JP guitar? Mine both do the same thing and I'm positive it's a function of the guitar itself, not the amp. I can hear the overtone even with the guitar unplugged.

Vai's "Die to Live" tone test

Pretty sure he actually played a Bogner Ecstasy on ALS... wonder if you couldn't get close using that model instead.

MUSE - Map Of The Problematique

Bakerman and I had a patch going last year that was trying to simulate how Matt actually recorded the song. He used 3 independent amps, one dry and two with pitch shifters applied and then he used a signal switcher (MIDI controlled by a laptop) to "play" the rhythms you hear on the CD by...

    Amp sim requests

EVH actually ran his 5150s at around 6-7 on the preamp gain... I used to have an original one (was my first tube amp back in like 1992 or so) and yeah it gets saturated pretty fast. Nothing tops my VH4's Channel 4 for that though... around 4-5 so on its gain knob is probably max 5150 gain lol.

    Amp sim requests

I would have to assume it's supposed to be Channel 3 - that's all most people ever use. I use that for rhythm and Ch. 4 for leads on mine though...

    4CM hissing

Thanks for trying man... I'm gonna sell my Ultra and wait for Cliff to release a new product that has a dedicated instrument-level 4CM/reamp out on it to fix this stuff. I'll have it up on the For Sale forum soon.

aftec, Did you get the X-amp yet? Interested to see your results. I have someone offering to buy my Ultra, so I'd like to know soon... if this doesn't work I'm going to sell it.

    4CM hissing

It looks like the exact same thing as the Cuniberti ReAmp to me... Requires a balanced input, which you can't do coming out of the Axe-FX Out 2.

    4CM hissing

Yeah this doesn't make much sense - I'm pretty sure I need to have an unbalanced signal going into my amp...

What DAW interface? Digital or analogue?

Check out the Lynx stuff too - their converters are awesome. We're about to buy an AES16e card for our new recording setup...

    4CM hissing

Well I'm willing to help in any way that I can if there is a fixable issue - I'd even send my VH4 to Cliff if it'd help (it'd have to be a week where I'm not playing shows though, which might be hard for a while since we're releasing our new CD on Tuesday...)

    4CM hissing

Yeah I agree - I specifically asked about exactly what I wanted to do with the Axe-FX before I ordered it on the old forum and everyone assured me it did that flawlessly etc... Eventides and the like are usually used in post configuration only, coming off the amp's effects loop. It's not the...

    4CM hissing

Thanks for the answers on why it's happening Cliff. Just curious though - isn't it really just 2 conversions happening on the signal path that goes into the amp's input? You've got the A2D that happens going into the Axe-FX, then the D2A going out of the Axe-FX into the amp. The other two...

    4CM hissing

John Cuniberti replied to me already about the Reamp: "If the Axe-FX's line output is a balanced +4 the Reamp should work fine." I'm thinking this means no right? Out 2 is unbalanced only...

    4CM hissing

Wondering the same thing... I'd try the Reamp box but I can't even find a way on their site to contact the company to see what their return policy is etc if it doesn't work. Would also like to ask a couple questions before I buy it, but there's absolutely no contact info anywhere - what kind of...

    Amp sim requests

I know the Soldano is somewhat close, but I'd still love to see a original "block letter" 5150 for doing stuff like Hagar-era VH patches, a lot of the newer metal and hardcore bands use the amp too...

    Dual signal routing...

You need to set it up so that your preamp is essentially a device in the Axe-FX's loop, then you insert the FXL block in your preset to use it in the chain. This is known as the "four cable method" or 4CM for short. Guitar > Axe-FX Front Input Preamp Send > Axe-FX Rear Input 2 Axe-FX Out 1 >...

    4CM hissing

Well it has to be converted - there'd be no point otherwise. The whole goal of the 4CM is to be able to have both pre and post effects routing all out of the same unit. jimosity - the issue is really that my amp is silent when I plug direct into it, but hisses when running through the Axe-FX...

    4CM Hum Solution

Nevermind, this won't work. The Reamp needs a balanced input signal and Out 2 is unbalanced only. Sigh.
  28. T

    4CM Hum Solution

Ok I'm about this close to ordering the Reamp v.2. What I want to know is if there would be an actual concrete way to determine precisely what the correct settings for the Axe-FX Output 2 and the Reamp Trim knobs would be in order to match it with the direct cable to amp guitar signal? Seems...

    Cliff please help!

There's two of us seeing the problem with Diezel amps - my VH4 and chrisallen's VH4S. I've also been able to reproduce it using a Hughes & Kettener Switchblade head and I believe Chrisallen also heard it through a Mesa Roadster head too. I want to say someone else heard it with a VHT head too...

    Cliff please help!

Cliff, I'm gonna try to make a recording of this - it's not a small amount of noise. My VH4 goes from basically silent to sounding like a 5150 with the pregain knob all the way up. If there's something I'm doing wrong, I will gladly admit the mistake. (in fact that's what I hope it is, I want...

    4CM hissing

Ok restarting this from the old forum... I'd really appreciate it if someone from Fractal could comment on this. If I'm doing something wrong I'd like to know what, as I think I've tried pretty much everything I know of, and if it's not something that can be solved I'd like to know so I can...
