How to take the blanket off 800 models?

I found the Marshall sounds not so hot until I bought the ML Soundlabs IR’s. The Silver and the one based on The Friedman 4x12’s. It was a huge improvement but I end up using the Friedman models and Carol Ann for those types of tones.

Yek’s guide is a great resource for a lot of things specifically finding a proper IR. What kind of compression are you talking about? The audio compressor, compression in the Advanced parameters of the power amp?

How are you dealing with the added gain in Ares?

Yes I seem to notice it in the low end. I dial back the input trim, some of it I like and some of it is a little over the top. Overall I really like the sound of the new firmware. The phasing thing is gone which is nice.

Thank you! I’ll stick with it. I’ve only had this thing for like two weeks so it’s encouraging to hear that this is just part of the process. I was just curious to hear what it sounded like through a guitar cabinet.

I did some tests today. I ran the Axe FX II thru a tube power amp (FX return TopHat Emplexador, EL34’s) and then to a 1x12 with a Celestion G12H 70th anniversary and all the amp models sound good, really good. Those same models through IR’s only sound good on about 15%. I only have stock IR’s...
