I really wish Fractal Audio had a trade-in program. I have the FM9T but would love the larger displays. Yes I know I could try to sell via classifieds but that's a big pain in the butt. Either way, nice to see those tiny displays are finally going away. My eyes are just not what they used to be.

Guitar tones on recordings are stripped down and EQ'ed like hell to fit the mix though. Isolated guitar tracks from albums don't always sound very good.

I don't understand how you would be lugging less equipment? Right now you have FM9->Fryette Power Station-> Suhr cab If you replace the Suhr cab with a FRFR cab all you are eliminating is the Fryette, which isn't much to lug around?

What do people mean when they say modelers "lack the amp feel"?

Honestly, if you want that amp in the room feel and sound use the AF3 (or FM3/FM9) but get a tube power amp and real guitar cabinet. These solid state power amps and ‘FRFR’ cabinets simply don’t reproduce this, they will always sound different. I’ve experimented extensively and my Matrix power...

Exactly! I'm on the same setup as you and I can now set up my presets quickly and don't have to lose my mind with endless tweaking! On a side note, for recording or playing at low volume nothing beats studio monitors. I just use the LXII & real guitar cabs for jamming purposes.

For jamming in a room the FRFR setup never sounded right and I tried everything. It was lacking the thump of a real guitar cabinet. Even a solid state amp->real guitar cab didn't cut it. I ended up going with AF3->LXII->Mesa 2x12 and never looked back.

5153 so easy to get a good tone, feels like cheating!

I've been playing with the new PVH 6160 Crunch model recently and it sounds fantastic as well. Add the new Klone Chiron drive and it instantly adds a nice clear boost for higher gain action. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed!

Those Ebtech devices are lifesavers eh! I've used the Ebtech Hum X before for a bass amp and the ground loop noise was completely eradicated. I'll keep the Hum Eliminator you mentioned in mind if I do run into any issues. Thanks!

SPDIF to my audio interface does the job for me, at least for what I need to do right now. And I don't have to fiddle around with setting offsets every time I start working on a project. I really wish they would fix the issue though.

I'd prefer the flexibility to run in stereo, the PS2 is mono only. How about the Fryette LX II? Seems to be designed with modelling in mind, so I assume power amp modelling should likely remain on, right? Anyone have any experience with this unit? The description on their website certainly...

Ok interesting. So the PS2 is designed to be a more neutral 'tube' power amp? What about the 2/90/2 and 2/50/2 offerings by Fryette? I assume with those power amp modeling should be off?

Just a quick update for those that are interested... I did exactly what @laxu suggested above and I have the preamps on the AF3 & TC100 sounding virtually identical at this point. I'm doing constant A/B comparisons and both sound incredible. All those low frequencies that were lacking before...

Thanks for this idea, I'll give it a shot. I agree, it would be good to make sure the preamp matches perfectly first using the real amps's power amp. Then once I know this is a perfect match I'll go back to tweaking power amp & speaker settings in the AF3. The fx loop is series in the TC100...

Consider this. I had a mark v and sold it because I preferred the tc100. I actually sold the mark v for a second af3. Don’t tell the tube snobs that! 😂

I wish I could explain better, but there’s a low frequency that just envelops me with the tc100. Without fiddling with depth and negative feedback it’s just a dull thud in the af3. If I can use some of my mic’s to accurately record the difference for everyone to hear I’ll certainly try. Again...

Sorry, didn’t mean to be so sensitive. I just wanted to make it clear I’m trying to learn here. Not complain. 😉 If a tube amp will always behave different I’ll accept that. I certainly have no complaints about the tones I’m coming up with on the af3!
