    Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Release

I’ve been drifting more and more towards the deluxe verb vibrato as my main amp. I was very happy with but always tempted to tweak a bit to find that mythical sweet spot. I played a bit before updating, then played the same stuff and just wow. I feel like while we were hanging around on the...

Revv purple is the one you want. My heartfelt advice? Pick one, stop looking, and work with it. Spend your time with the amp tone controls, input EQ, and IR. Your sound is in there but no amp will sound exactly right without a bit of massaging.

Axe-Fx III Factory Presets Release 19.04

I get why people new to the unit would like a factory preset to match the latest and greatest, but it’s a bit of a futile quest. They’re not going to sound “perfect” or “ideal” - they’re not even going to sound the same as they do to the creator, taking into account different monitoring...

    Are buttons a must

    Are buttons a must

Yeah Fractal really stands out with updates. They’re not just house-keeping though, every now and then it’s like getting a whole new product, seriously. Like 25 might be the most radical change ever, and it’s free.

    Are buttons a must

One thing to consider is the updates. AFX gets the cutting edge of new inventions and discoveries, and they eventually trickle down to the FM9, and possibly to the FM3. The FM3 has quite a different architecture so there’s no guarantee that features like the lovely reverbs will make it there...

Tuner issues - tuners disagree from each other

I remember the TC polytune had this weird phenomenon where each individual string would tune perfectly, but in poly mode (all strings at once) the low E would always register as sharp. They did a bunch of research and discovered that guitarist were resting their finger on the peg getting ready...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta #2 (Cygnus X-3 Release Candidate)

Hi @FractalAudio, thank you sincerely for all that you do. It is truly appreciated. I know there are a number of us that got back into music because of the AxeFX. That’s pretty amazing and I’m not sure many other gear manufacturers can make that claim. THANK YOU FOR THE CAAAAAAAAR!

Tuner issues - tuners disagree from each other

I’d bet that many of us probably used a Boss TU-2 for a long time. That had an accuracy of +/- 3 cents. That means you had a 6-cent window to deal with, which is perceptible, and yet we all managed to make music and find the joy. I don’t use a set of calipers and a microscope to test if a bed...

Tone Shaping - Sharp PEQ Cuts

I use @2112 ’s “humbucker simulator” EQ before the amp (from his gift of tone). It de-nasty-fies my strat just nicely. Then a PEQ last to do the sweep for shrill frequencies or highly resonant bass frequencies, and give them a surgical cut, but not too deep. I never thought of Matt’s reverse...

Tuner issues - tuners disagree from each other

Is that the whole file? I don't see you including headers or declaring the Axe variable, like: #include <AxeFxControl.h> AxeSystem Axe; Apart from that it looks ok, except I can't see where you've declared midi_channel. If you leave that off it will revert to OMNI. Try this example and see...

BUG ? When changing IR delay trail pops

Love the song, fantastic vocals and lovely lead tone. I’m away from axe atm, but do you have the compander on in the delay? I’ve had pops when switching between delays with compander on then off. Cliff said that’s the nature of it and you need it on or off for in both if switching between them.

Axe FX III EMI issues? Thinking about upgrading from the II.

Noise gates only work when you’re NOT playing. They open when you play, so if you’re getting noise while playing that’s happening in the guitar. Not much axe can do about that just like any other amp. If you’re in a venue where there are neon lights or down lights above the stage, I feel your...

Denoising strat - shameless request for recommendations

Denoising strat - shameless request for recommendations

It’s a vintera 60s modified, so it’s got a button on the volume knob that engages the neck pup. I never use it because it’s too muddy, so a blend pot would be nice. Then I’ve gotta think what I could use that button for, I hate having it and not using it. I want to push buttons!

So many suggestions, thanks heaps to everyone. I’m thinking the Ulbrick sounds like an excellent bet, as well as Armstrong wiring. If it reduces the problem by 85-90% that might be enough. Also if I lose some top-end… great!

Thanks Greg, good insight that confirms a few suspicions. It’s SSS and the noise was almost as loud as the actual guitar signal. It’s not so bad in better venues but I figured I should try to harden it as much as possible. Of the unsatisfactory options you tried, which did you find the least...

Says it’s the same IR, but to me they seem to be dialled in deliberately to sound different, or one was simply not dialled in at all. Let's show some love! What is the thing about the Axe3 that made you grin recently?

It sounds odd to say it’s been life-changing, but it’s kinda true. To have an entire piece of the gear puzzle literally removed is pretty astounding. I mean I no longer spend any time worrying that my gear’s not enough, that it’s going to fail or be different on stage, or chasing the next pedal...

Really need help and it should be easy for you.

    1. Post the preset. 2. Post a sound clip. Without those two things it is a very frustrating experience. People will (and already have) bent over backwards to help but it quickly becomes pointless without something to work with. Posting presets is easy and really should always be done in the...

    Upgrading advice needed

You probably won’t hear much difference in sound normally, since it’s the same amp modelling in all units… BUT - with the AFX you get the latest and greatest firmwares without waiting! That to me is one of the best things about the big unit.

    love for FAS Vibe

Nice, I have just discovered this approach after seeing a preset video where they did this. Never would have thought of it. You’re right, it just seems to keep the sound ‘stirring’ and gives it a subtle breezy sound without resorting to chorus.

    IEM Mix Input

With those behringer mixers, you can give each band member control of just their iem mix and let them tweak it with an app on their phone. So you can use the same mixer for FOH and iem. We’ve toyed with this as we’re on xr18 as well.
  56. tysonlt

Yep this is how I do it. I use out1 for ears and have out1 volume and in2 volume (the band) on performance pages for quick changes.

Leon I actually have your de-stratifying EQ on PP with the control mapped to the bypass. But I find I never turn it off! It mellows my super-bright vintera strat just nicely. Mapping to channel would be a great idea to have 4 EQ profiles available.

    Two Microphones

In short, sure(!) it will work. I’ve run a behringer SM58 knockoff directly in, although a mic pre is preferable. You might need to pan them hard to split them, I reckon you’d end up wanting a separate line for each to control EQ and volume separately.

Not a Bug “Gapless Switching” not gapless?

We’re getting into the weeds here. When you’re playing music, gapless switching is a huge benefit when you switch to a lead sound, or clean to crunch. If you’re sitting at home trying to trick it, well that’s not what it’s for. I suggest this discussion will go in no useful direction without a...

Not a Bug “Gapless Switching” not gapless?

I’m not sure about that… so you’re getting a gap switching between channels with identical amps? We need to wait for a preset to check it out, otherwise we’re just eating soup with chopsticks in the dark.
  74. tysonlt

Not a Bug “Gapless Switching” not gapless?

Try waiting like 5 seconds between changes. Nobody would be switching back and forth rapidly in a musical setting. I get really bad noise from the down lights in my room. If you can move the guitar around and it changes, that says to me it’s not the power but EMI in the room. I switched rooms to the next one over, same lights, no problem 🤷‍♂️
