Seeking advice with “home use” wireless setup

Have you tried lifting grounds? My Axe III always gives me ground noise when there is something in between the guitar and the unit itself. Sometimes lifting one or both grounds will change or remove the noise.

    Piano-like clean bass tone

Make your EQ smile a little. Not too much or it will be hard to tell what note you're playing. I boost ~4k when I want the super bright type of clarity. Cutting somewhere between 250-750hz depending on the bass will round out / remove mud from the tone and get you closer to the bell like...

New with Fractal, incoming Axe-Fx III: help needed with the physical installation

Power conditioners are essential. If they save your gear once they have paid for themselves many times over. Having one that shows ground and wiring faults is worth its weight in gold if you gig regularly. Voltage meters are a plus but voltage is rarely going to be the issue unless you run on...

    High-shielded cables and EMI noise

From experience, Ferrite cores will indeed make your rig quieter in environments that have noise issues they were meant to help with (fluorescent light noise can often be solved with ferrites). Ferrites won't do diddly squat (sorry for the technical terminology) for you guitar. Shield the...

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

I traced the problem to the IEC cable. It is all good now. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

Correct. The buzz happens regardless of the number of cables plugged in. Zero cables except power and my normal setup which is 1/4 in, 1/4 out, Faslink to a FC-12, MIDI out to a RJM Effects Gizmo both produce the same result. The pedal power supply and the effects gizmo power supplies are...

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

Both Rex. I've tried all permutations. Wall is properly grounded. I see ground all the way to the conditioner. Power Conditioner not power strip. Furman AC-215. One of the higher end ones actually. Hasn't failed me yet but I'll try a Monster Power 2500 in the morning. Everything is plugged...

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

I haven't tried unracking it. It is in the same rack with the other gear (pedals on a tray). Do you think the chassis is grounding itself to something? I'll try unracking the pedals but I thought the velcro might isolate the pedals themselves electrically.

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

When I use it by itself there is no issue. If I have anything before or after it plugged into the same power conditioner (I've tried changing the conditioner to no effect), then there is a buzz. So I assumed ground issue and flipped the grounds without any change.

Axe-Fx III is making my other stuff buzz!

I have a problem that, if the power cable is plugged into my Axe FX III, then I get a buzz through all my other effects. No combination of ground lifts affects this noise. Whether the Axe FX is wired to the other effects are not does not change the buzz. Any ideas? My thought is the AXE III...

Using a FC-12 to Control Backing Tracks?

Thanks for the suggestion. I came from a RJM GT/16. I didn't realize that control switches were so memory intensive. They certainly are useful.

Assign MIDI Functions Directly to FC-12 / FC-6 Footswitches

Even just that would be awesome! Even just note on would make such a huge difference. A lot of us end users now have tons of stuff to control. Having one controller solves a number of logistical woes. I'll bump the more control switches wish. Thanks for responding.

Assign MIDI Functions Directly to FC-12 / FC-6 Footswitches

The ability to directly assign MIDI functions (without control switches or with additional control switches) to the footswitches of the FC-12 would be life changing (or at least gig changing). Being able to assign Note-On, Note-Off, and other messages would let the AXE III be a viable master...

Using a FC-12 to Control Backing Tracks?

Found it CS-MIDI let's you assign a Midi CC to a control switch then you can map that control switch to a footswitch on the FC-12. Ableton will let me map this to the needed function. I guess my expected behaviour was I can map a MIDI function directly to a footswitch. Also, the limit of 6...

Using a FC-12 to Control Backing Tracks?

Is there a way to have the FC-12 send MIDI messages separate from scene changes? I run backing tracks so I've previously been using a RJM Mastermind to send different messages to to the AXE III I have and the Ableton rig. I want to retain the ability to stay on the same sound Any ideas would...

    Software FracPad III - iOS/Android/Mac/Win Editor for the Axe-Fx II/XL/XL+, AX8/FX8, Axe-Fx III and FM3/FM9

FracPad III is a great tool. Well worth double the asking price. I found a USB to Lightning cable that works a treat without any adapters for it. However, I want to go wireless. Is there a way to get the AXE III to work wirelessly with it? Will it block the Midi Ports? I'm using a foot...

USB Dry Input Level is Extremely Low

Thanks. Yeah, that adjusts the output level of the axe fx but not the USB input levels in a DAW. That was one of the things I had to check. I have an 18v preamp on my bass so I turned all the knobs up just to see. It clips the Axe FX III with the input percentage at 0% but the DAW level...

USB Dry Input Level is Extremely Low

Hello all, I'm attempting to track with the Axe III via USB for the first time. When I track anything, the level on USB 1 is healthy for the wet but the signal on USB 5 for the dry is exceedingly low. As in my meters peak around -30db and I can't get an acceptable volume with the fader...

Wireless IEM systems - which one to buy / avoid ?

I use and love the Lectrosonics Quadra. The Duet was equally good when I tried it. They sounded the same so I stuck with the Quadra. Digital and diversity is the way to go if at all possible. The more affordable analog systems I've tried that I liked were the AKG IVM4500 for sound quality or...

I'm getting an Axe-Fx Ultra. What else do I need?

The Mackies should do the trick. I don't have any personal experience with those but Mackie does have a track record of making good cheaper studio monitors. The speakers you should choose are the ones you like the sound of. Any good set should sound good with any style of music. Smaller than...

I'm getting an Axe-Fx Ultra. What else do I need?

When it comes to Studio Monitors, 5 inches to 8 inches is a sweet spot for woofer size. I personally like the JBL 305s myself. The Presonus Eris, Yamaha HS, and KRK Rockits are all quality products. If you like bright and clear, the Yamahas are great. The JBLs are a bit scooped in the mids...

Do you leave a 1U cooling space above your AXE FX III??

The top of the Axe III is still cool to the touch for me. You could always add a rack fan if things start heating up. I use this in my keyboard rack to cool my interface which runs hot...

Small basic monitors, do they sound okay?

They don't have a headphone jack but I'm really liking the JBL 305s. Sounds made on them translate very well to FOH. Virtually all the two the three hundred dollar monitors are decent these days. It's more about what flavor you want than anything. I personally didn't like the Eris sound...

    Axe-Fx III in Music Radar

1176 was always my go to in my studio days. I have a Cali76 that I use with my current rig. The Axe III replaced everything but that. The LA2A is also another really popular one. The Axe III Studio compressor sounds like a generic VCA compressor to me. Not a bad thing, just kind of...

    Axe-Fx III in Music Radar

I think bass players overall would be happy with even 10% of the consideration of guitar players. We don't need 40 amps; the Ampeg B15, SVT, and a Clean amp would cover most people's basses (I had to, sorry). On the same note, 3 or 4 bass-centric drives and a few bass friendly compressors...

    Humbuster and Rack Panel Use

I'll try the XLR next time too. The DI is what they run all the basses through. They're pretty adamant about it so I usually just plug in. Don't make the sound guy angry! I have plenty of TRS so I have options. Thanks again!

Axe-Fx III users: still use outboard effects?

I use a Cali76 with the Axe III. The punchy and transparent compression of the Cali has been unattainable in the box for me. I have a B7K but the Axe gets close enough and being able to use it multiband on bass was a revelation.

    Humbuster and Rack Panel Use

How would I incorporate a Humbuster cable in a rack panel setup. Should just the cable going to the panel be TRS to TS? Should the cable coming out of the panel to the DI (in my case) also be Humbuster wired? Will this not work at all? Thanks!

I'm getting an Axe-Fx Ultra. What else do I need?

Good news! You have everything you need to get started. You can just plug the Ultra into the Tascam and record away. Alternatively, reamping by recording the dry and then sending that out through the line outs to the Ultra and back in through the Mic Pres is also an option. Your computers are...

I'm getting an Axe-Fx Ultra. What else do I need?

Running outboard effects through a computer is overall very easy, Especially on current gen Macs. 1. Do you have an Audio Interface? 2. What speakers do you have already? 3. Which model Mac (Year and iMac, Macbook Pro, etc...) 4. What DAW do you use (Pro Tools, Logic, ...) So excited for you!

Pre & Post Eq for Clean Tones?

It will if there is energy there, it won't if there's not. Adding 10db of boost at 5khz won't do much of anything to a guitar that doesn't have any real response there (like a dark humbucker). The actual level could be many dB lower at the corner frequency because it's past the resonant peak...

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

Whether the Axe-FX works well for you on bass is very situational. It is definitely not a comprehensive unit for bass. I own the Axe III. Since my preferred clean tone has no amp or cabinet modelling, I can get something perfectly acceptable very quickly. My main drive tone was a B7k anyway...

Pre & Post Eq for Clean Tones?

In regards to having EQ before or after the amp: If the amp is completely clean, there will be absolutely no difference. When you Pre-EQ a dirty amp, you are changing which frequencies distort more readily. Post-EQ then can change the tone to taste. In a completely clean amp, that isn't...

Pre & Post Eq for Clean Tones?

If the EQ curve is the same it doesn't matter where the curve is in regards to unity. It will be the same result assuming nothing clips. In recording, there is a huge school of subtractive (cut) only EQ. My best guess is that they do it to avoid the potential of clipping sources. We used to...
