    Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Public Beta #6 (Beta 12)

The Ampeg 8x10 is a classic staple of rock bass and I fully expect it to be included in the final release. Cliff did say that they'll include several bass cabs and I can't wait to try them all out (especially the 8x10). I'd say the included guitar cabs cover most, if not all of my needs for...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 20.00

    Rhett Shull Axe-FXIII Review

Its not the most intuitive interface but I don't know how you could solve that given the button layout and real estate availability. I'd rather have the deep options it allows rather than dumbing it down for usability from the front panel. I have everything pretty much dialed in at rehearsals...

    Modern Hard Rock Amps

Don't sleep on the FAS amps. FAS Crunch works wonderfully in a band mix! Gets that Marshall vibe down without the ice picky stuff jumping out on higher notes or getting flubby in the low end, especially with a tubescreamer boosting it. Those mids just slot right between the lows of the bass/kick...

Some initial observations compared to HX Stomp

To my ears, the Fractal models are just ahead by a lot and yes, especially the Marshalls. For high gain, I can get the Helix in the general ball park but the Marshalls and even the Vox variants don't react like I expect them to nor do they sound as good. The HX Stomp is a decent backup rig for a...

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 9 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #6

Hope the bass amps get some love too. Can't wait for the final release so that I can update. Too many upcoming reamps, gigs and rehearsals for a beta fw for me right now. Waiting for @2112 to demo the updated amps in detail. I smell a big Cygnus video soon!

What's up with this, is it for real? :(

Haven't seen the video but I have no complaints about the Fractal hardware - I haven't faced any issues yet and thus I don't care what components are inside - I'm paying for a product that sounds good, is tour ready, is feature packed and is updated with new features on a frequent basis. Fractal Sounds Different in FOH?

Quite a few factors here - The frequency response of your monitors vs PA. The sheer volume (Fletcher Munson effect). The EQ on the board and the master EQ before it hits the speakers. The room you're playing. Dial in patches at a loud (gig level) volume with a standard PA instead of studio...

    Brainstorming. Auto-Cab measurer

140hz seems pretty high. Are you sure you're not picking up the octave up from 70hz? Axe-Fx 3 & Kemper users advice

Yes, you can easily cut it using a high cut on the cab block or even try a darker IR (maybe a ribbon mic or a dynamic away from the cone and near the edge) or a post EQ. There are several ways you could achieve what you want with the Axe Fx. Like it has been said - it's a blank slate and you can...

    Axe-Fx 3 & Kemper users advice

@Peter McCarthy There's actually a lot of information above 6khz on a close mic'd amp/cab. Although it tends to be mostly upper highs and fizz. The KPA mid range is not the scooped vs no scooped thing - it's a slight cocked wah thing that you hear more and more, the more you play and record...

The amp models are the best available in a modeler. They're almost indistinguishable from a real recorded tube amp. 1176, Distressor, DBX 160 are a few compressors that could be added to the to do list. Impulse responses for live use at loud volumes (FOH only)

Agreed. Balanced is a more appropriate word rather than dark which I've previously said. Too dark and the guitar doesn't cut through at all. Scooping the mids a ton is probably the biggest mistake, in my experience.

  49. funknoodles

Impulse responses for live use at loud volumes (FOH only)

But you'll definitely want to emphasize the mids and turn down the presence and treble on the amp block even with ML IRs. It's easier to make them sound good when cranked than, say, OH stuff. Darker IRs sound better live (with a low cut) to me.

Axe-Fx III Firmware 2.05 Public Beta

FWIW - the mid position switches between 220Hz, 450Hz, 800Hz, 1.6kHz and 3kHz. I think you can get it close with a PEQ or GEQ block after the amp or the output EQ on the amp block. From what I remember - it wasn't a very dynamic EQ or anything but I could be wrong.

    Tone Match a non-modeled Amp

Look up what its based on and dial it in using your ears as close as possible. The TM and it should be pretty darn close. The knob positions/taper probably won't match. Good to know about the Archon but I kinda never bonded with my very limited time with it. Hopefully the Axe changes that.

Famously used by the bass player from Muse for his gnarly distorted sound. I saw schematics floating around on the web and it'd be a treat to have it in the Axe. The SV Model is a lot gnarlier than before and the power amp seems to break up sooner. The extra grit makes it sound fatter and meaner overall. The master volume is a lot more sensitive - turning down to around 3 seems to get a cleaner tone. Around 5 it gets a mild breakup and quickly gets...

    Anyone use Input Dynamics?

Of course, it has to be bug free. That goes without saying. Not sure what you mean by taking up bytes as Cliff has mentioned its not a hardware resource issue at all. I don't know about the hidden feature idea. No one is forced to use the advanced stuff if they aren't sure and even if they...

Changed High output to Low output pickups - What will this effect on patches ?

Definitely going to have to change the input trim to match the amount of dirt you get. Might and probably will have to EQ the amp as well to get it to respond identically.

Was there ever a consideration of different OS's for different types of players?

I don't think it's a hardware resource issue at all. The 3 should have more than enough muscle for more amps which I'm sure will be added. Agreed with what Cliff said at least when it comes to guitar. Bass on the other hand could use some love.
  72. funknoodles

Was there ever a consideration of different OS's for different types of players?

I don't understand why they can't keep adding to the current system and not have seperate installs. If they do model a new amp, they can just add it on top of the 250+ available models, can't they? At the end of the day - You'll use what you need and not worry about the rest the same way a...

Why do I like Drive + Amp more than Amp drive?

    Axe-FX vs Two Notes Torpedo...

It'll sound identical and you'll be losing out on using a couple hundred amps and end up with a heavier rack that requires maintenance. I know amp heads look cool and perhaps cooler than a lonely Axe Fx but it's just too convenient to give up for an amp and torpedo.

Plus - Portability. Experimentation without having to buy new gear. Consistency. Virtually ZERO maintenance.
  84. funknoodles

What things can an AFX do that a real amp cant?

You definitely can do it but that'd require splitters and cables and maintaining that. Take for example splitting a signal into an amp and a DI fuzz through just the cab and blending it in (ie - summing 2 signals between the amp and cab block). For me that has the clarity of a non fuzzed signal...
  85. funknoodles

What things can an AFX do that a real amp cant?

Sounding like 250+ amps and unlimited cabs in one box, effects, routing, standalone reamping, weighs less, easier to plug in and play, consistency, updates, super customizable signal path, tweaking the inner workings of an amp without consequences.
