Agreed. Balanced is a more appropriate word rather than dark which I've previously said. Too dark and the guitar doesn't cut through at all. Scooping the mids a ton is probably the biggest mistake, in my experience.

But you'll definitely want to emphasize the mids and turn down the presence and treble on the amp block even with ML IRs. It's easier to make them sound good when cranked than, say, OH stuff. Darker IRs sound better live (with a low cut) to me.

The ML stuff with a ribbon and a dynamic mixed in sounds good live. Turn down the treble, presence and bump the mids more than you would and use a low and high cut at 120hz and 7.5khz (12db per octave) respectively. The PR75 cab from the Greatest Hits Collection works great for me. OH, Rosen, 3...

FWIW - the mid position switches between 220Hz, 450Hz, 800Hz, 1.6kHz and 3kHz. I think you can get it close with a PEQ or GEQ block after the amp or the output EQ on the amp block. From what I remember - it wasn't a very dynamic EQ or anything but I could be wrong.

Tone Match a non-modeled Amp

Look up what its based on and dial it in using your ears as close as possible. The TM and it should be pretty darn close. The knob positions/taper probably won't match. Good to know about the Archon but I kinda never bonded with my very limited time with it. Hopefully the Axe changes that.

Perhaps a bandpass type deal when moving around the frequency and Q to hunt for those harsh or muddy frequencies? I'd have an optional solo band auto engage button so that it solos that particular band when sweeping across the frequency or changing the Q value.

"ML Greatest Hits" - 2018 BLACK NOVEMBER PACK!

@ML SOUND LAB I'm a big fan of the stock ML ones on the 3 and if you say these are the greatest hits and not the ones in the 3's factory ones - I'm convinced. Getting right on it!

Almost purchased this but I'm torn between this and the Legends pack. Having an Axe Fx 3 - I wonder if I'll get a lot of the same IRs since the 3 has a bunch of IRs from ML already factory installed in there. @ML SOUND LAB

Axe-FX vs Two Notes Torpedo...

It'll sound identical and you'll be losing out on using a couple hundred amps and end up with a heavier rack that requires maintenance. I know amp heads look cool and perhaps cooler than a lonely Axe Fx but it's just too convenient to give up for an amp and torpedo.

What things can an AFX do that a real amp cant?

Plus - Portability. Experimentation without having to buy new gear. Consistency. Virtually ZERO maintenance.

You definitely can do it but that'd require splitters and cables and maintaining that. Take for example splitting a signal into an amp and a DI fuzz through just the cab and blending it in (ie - summing 2 signals between the amp and cab block). For me that has the clarity of a non fuzzed signal...

Sounding like 250+ amps and unlimited cabs in one box, effects, routing, standalone reamping, weighs less, easier to plug in and play, consistency, updates, super customizable signal path, tweaking the inner workings of an amp without consequences.

I think my AXEFX3 Screen just died?

Any idea on why this happens? I flew mine all the way to Bangladesh and these posts are nerve racking. Is this something that's fixable by a guy decent at electronics. :/

Wish Preamp Disable or Poweramp Only models

Could this be achieved through the tube preamp model though? It is supposed to be neutral/fairly neutral, if I remember correctly.

Replaced by a Pod 2.0 Bean

Sansamp VT bass for bass guitar - In fact the Sansamp set to a clean SVT type sound with a decent overdrive pedal for the dirty parts is just something that works with a loud PA very well without fail. Love them! For guitar - I've heard those little Mooer preamps and they're surprisingly great...

With Graphic EQ option on the drive block - I bet we can get closer but a generic Klon model should be added since that is a big request and has been for a while now.

This is great. I find multi band compressors kind of essential on bass to keep the lows intact and steady while letting the mids and highs crunch up when played harder by placing them before drives and amps. Helps overdriven tones not to fart out as well. Then again I'm going for a fairly mix...

Axe-Fx III for Bass: First Impressions and Review

It kinda feels bad to be a bass player; pleading for something and then being ignored for so long. Love the Fractal stuff but I feel like bass players are invisible to FAS sometimes. I'm not expecting 50 different models over night but a few in addition to updating the old ones would be nice.

Amp Advanced Setting Question

The high cut is a post EQ (after the preamp), if I remember correctly. That's why it isn't reflected on the input EQ.
