Axe-Fx 3 worth to use only for bass?

Axe Fx III is fantastic for bass. I have it, and use it daily. I recommend the III over the FM3 if you are planning to run two amp blocks in parallel, which I use all the time. (Think Ampeg SVT reasonably clean covering the low end, with a high-passed Guitar amp + distortion mixed in for...

    Wish Wish List: New Amps

Yes, an Aguilar DB751, or something from Ashdown, Gallien Krueger (RB series, original and the later staples), Hartke, Markbass, etc. As a bass player, I'd love to see more variety.

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 14.00

Ok. Apologies for being a bit snarky. Let me try this approach: I really hope the new amp models are bass amps. As a bass player and Axe Fx III owner, I would appreciate more variety and tonal options.

    Three Amp Blocks?

I am a bass player and I use 2 amp blocks all the time in presets (clean SVT plus pitch shifted up through a distorted guitar amp, for example). If I had access to a 3rd, I'd be able to have one of the guitarists in bands I play with run through the Axe Fx as well.

    Powered FRFR Cabinet for Bass?

"Most of what you hear is the second harmonic." Yes, that is correct. "You don't need the fundamental at all." I disagree. The proportion of the fundamental to the overtone series as well as the ADSR profile of these frequencies helps our brains distinguish timbres of a same pitch. Yeah...

    Powered FRFR Cabinet for Bass?

I've not heard one with, and I just gave advice to use both your ears and the specs... That said, the CLR data I can find shows something like -25dB response at 40Hz. They talk about the flatness of their product from 70Hz on up. The manual I found on line has a nice frequency plot that shows...

    Powered FRFR Cabinet for Bass?

Check the specs and your ears. You want some performance at really low frequencies. Doesn't have to be -3dB "flat", but you want some low end extension to provide some fundamental. My experience listening/shopping to a LOT of powered PA cabs is that many cheaper 15" powered PA or powered cab...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 2.05

The Sunn Model T is probably high on Fractal's list because, much like the early Fender Bassmans, they have been used by both bassists and normal guitar players alike. I can see that there's a value to Fractal for including amps like this that have very broad appeal.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 2.05

Great vintage choice! @funknoodles Would love to hear a nice B15 IR! I feel like the tonal choice that is missing the most right now is something like the Gallien Krueger 700/1001RB. The unique FET sounds and GK growl are hard to replicate with the big tube models. A modern, clean solid...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 2.05

@FractalAudio As a bass player, I'd like to say thank you for the work on bass amps in this version. The SVT model is greatly improved and operates like a real SVT now. I very much appreciate the information on which model (and settings) were used to tune the algorithm, as well. The prior...

Axe-Fx III for Bass: First Impressions and Review

Ok, so I've posted a followup video where I do a bit of a mea culpa to Dr. Bonkers, as well as try out his suggestion to use a JC-120 as a proxy for a solid state amp.

Axe-Fx III for Bass: First Impressions and Review

The reality is that the box is very powerful for bass players, even if it isn't as full featured with amp models as I would like. Again, I'm new at this as a first-time Fractal buyer. I have no idea what their history of supporting bass has been, nor what the intent of the product is...

Axe-Fx III review in The Guitar magazine

Everyone has a bias. When you purchase an item, it's tough to say "I spent my own money on this and it was a total waste. I made a bad decision." Sometimes that happens, and sometimes a professional reviewer can eliminate their own bias towards an advertiser. I do like owner reviews, don't...

Axe-Fx III for Bass: First Impressions and Review

Wow, Dr. Bonkers! Apologies for missing the SWR Workingman 12 IR. I'll look for it today and try it out. Feel free to link your video to Facebook and your site. I know the production value isn't high (I'm a musician, not a video producer), but I hope some of the points resonate with folks.

Axe-Fx III for Bass: First Impressions and Review

I've posted a video review with my thoughts on this hardware from the perspective of a bass player. You can find it here: I give my thoughts on the overall platform, its use as an audio interface, and discuss the various bass amps and cabinets that ship with the unit. Overall, I'm pleased...

Can the vets lessen the learning curve for noobs?

This is a great approach. I'm trying to make a series of videos that talk through my approach of building presets, starting with the most simple preset and building upon them. I'm a bass player, but all the concepts transfer over. In this video I build a very quick amp+cab chain and...

Can I use my Egnater Renegade Footswitch with the Axe-Fx III?

I tried to do a little bit of research on your footswitch, but it's hard to find a wiring diagram. It looks like you have dual TRS outputs on the Egnater, however. It's relatively easy to connect Tip-Sleeve (TS) footswitches into the back of the AxeFxIII and assign them. I have done this...

AustinBuddy possible Bass Presets for the Axe-Fx III - what do you want to see?

Austinbuddy, Got the Axe Fx III yesterday and had a great first evening with it. Even with a lot of the research I've done ahead of time, there's quite a bit of work required to organize and find all the bass-related amps/cabs/etc. I loaded your preset and had a play last night-- the DI+Amp...

AustinBuddy possible Bass Presets for the Axe-Fx III - what do you want to see?

Austinbuddy, I'm a bass player and my Axe Fx III shipped today. I'll take a look at the preset and give feedback as soon as I can. This will be my first Fractal foray... I have to say I'm taking the plunge despite the fact that there doesn't appear to be as many amp models as I would have...

Eventide's algorithms are quite nice. For a studio setting, having the equivalent of 16 H9s would have some advantages. I had a pedalboard with a only a tuner and a couple H9s on it-- as a bass player, those two units were pretty much all I needed for effects. However, Eventide does zero...
