A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

Ok I see you’re using the S16. I’m a little confused how you’d achieve the same as the splitter snake though. It looks like I can use my 16 mic inputs, then how do I get 16 outputs while retaining 4 IEM outputs? The splitter snake takes the 16 mic inputs and simply duplicates them. I’m not...

I think I’m going to order it. I actually have a spare X32 that I think I’ll rack with the rackmount splitter snake. Going to see if BTPA makes one, I trust them first before anyone.

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

Proper speaker placement and field of listening can get really heady and mathematical beyond my understanding and probably the scope of this thread, other than that is what causes these issues. You HAVE to be within the intended targeted field of listening and the speakers must be placed and...

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

Hard stop. Audience recordings are probably the very last point of reference you should put any stock in. You can have 5 iPhones in different seats, or in different corners of the venue and get wildly different sounding recordings. There are just way too many uncontrollable variables in an...

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

Curious how you achieve using your main rig as an IEM/split rig when you play a venue with house sound. I have in my rack my Behringer X32 mixer, and wired into it is a wireless mic and 3 sets of IEMs. I also run tracks left and click right into 2 mono inputs. I’ve been thinking how to make this...

    First morning

The typical mixed Friedman cab is pretty good sounding to me. If you can snag one of those used for a good price that would be a home run. They’re big and heavy though. I have the 4x12.

    First morning

I have all my amps still. They sound great, too. Nothing wrong with that. I really have no power amp solution for my FAS stuff, just a torpedo reload. I really never play amps at home unless I’m reamping because I feel like it or product testing a mic (currently Austrian Audio and Royer). So I...

    First morning

it is ENTIRELY about monitoring. Entirely. Using a modeler is for the most part a different approach, but the end result (what the end listener hears) should be the same. If you are after an AITR (amp in the room) experience, this is best achieved with.........an amp in the room. At minimum a...

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

First question: unless you are a big name: always. And even if you are, I'd still tread lightly. If you're going to change anything, I'd be diplomatic about it. I'd be kinda upset if I'm cranking high end because you are constantly reducing it. Our job is the same: to make the show sound good...

    Are buttons a must

I didnt see where you mentioned outside of home and hotel rooms if you play in a band or not. I have all three of the units you’re considering. I couldn’t imagine dragging my AXEFXIII around. It is just too big and unnecessary. The FM3 sounds great and serves my needs. If I need a bigger board...

Three weeks in w/ FM3 Mk II Turbo

Welcome to the club! Back when I got my AX8 (the predecessor to I guess the FM9), I gigged with 2 independent signal flows. Wish Let value knob lock or be something else

After hitting the value knob with my guitar cable last gig, having it default to scrolling presets is probably the worst thing that it can do in this situation. I’d like to see being able to lock it from doing anything once I’m playing, or at least assigning it to something far less damaging. Or...

Ok so Thomann got back to me. Their original detailed email while thorough was a little easy to misunderstand. International shipping

You’re right. Only problem is if it comes down to Thomann telling me getting the mixer back to them is a Me problem, not a them problem. At which case if I can’t get it fixed under warranty, I’d just do the repair myself. I THINK because it was purchased in the EU Behringer has to cover it at...

Im going to do my best to get them to pay for this. Apparently this just needs a new/beefed up power supply, which is 100 bucks and is an easy swap.
  53. Bruce Sokolovic

    International shipping

Here is a question for you EU folks. I purchased this in the EU and shipped to states. EU from what I understand has to have a minimum 2 year warranty. If I am actually still under Behringer warranty, cant I yell at them to fix this locally?
  54. Bruce Sokolovic

    International shipping

Even if Thomann told me to pound sand, it’s cheaper for me to walk in to the repair shop and fix it than it is to ship it back for warranty. IMO that is outrageous.
  55. Bruce Sokolovic

    International shipping

They plan to refund shipping, but wanted to be contacted if it is over 120 bucks. All the shipping paperwork shows it is a warranty return for repair. I sent Thomann an email. Why Steve Vai 'Wasn't a Big Fan of the Marshall Sound'.How Carvin Made His 'Favorite' Amp

Why Steve Vai 'Wasn't a Big Fan of the Marshall Sound'.How Carvin Made His 'Favorite' Amp

I videoed this at NAMM, 2020 I think? The tone is magnificent for sure, but mardone, the noise before the noise gate kicks in sounds like a tornado of 12k. Takes a lot of gain to pull off some of those acrobatics.

Why Steve Vai 'Wasn't a Big Fan of the Marshall Sound'.How Carvin Made His 'Favorite' Amp

Signature gear is just another way for builders and artists to make money. Vai deserves it, but often times this kind of stuff doesnt work for me. My white Jem and GMC universe are 2 examples. is there a new product in a near future for tube amp lovers like FX8

I wish listed a firmware version that removed all the amp modeling and gives more space/firepower for FX. Seems like a waste of resources for folks who want to use a FAS product in 4CM with their amps to have 280+ amp models sitting there doing nothing.

    Reverse engineer undocumented sysex?

I wouldn’t call it a bug per se, but FAS stuff is pretty tempermental when booting and it is receiving midi data. Too many bad boots to continue. The importance of Mono for live guitar playing

Funny you mention the 2290, I was tweaking a patch thru the IEMs and wondering even with the mix at 100 and everything else pegged, no delay. Moved knobs for a good 5 minutes before I figured out it needs to be in stereo.
  69. Bruce Sokolovic

The importance of Mono for live guitar playing

With the Behringer X32 I’m a little limited to 8 bus outputs, so I need all the instrumentation I can get. Having my guitar going to a stereo aux for one IEM channel just isn’t feasible. All our IEMs run in mono for this reason. Going stereo to FOH of course is easy. So, in my case study of ONE...

The importance of Mono for live guitar playing

didnt read the whole thread but this confuses me. Why would anyone want to do this? IEMs are for monitoring, FOH is for the show. The show should be lush stereo effects. Monitoring is just so you can hear yourself. Seems like a waste of an output bus if you ask me.

Easy does it. Not all power conditioners are one and the same. Quite the contrary. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security. I’ve seen some really wacky numbers out gigging and spikes and drops can really do a number on your gear. Want good protection and steady line voltage? Get the...

Correct. Also, NAMM or any company producing to capacity is pointless. I dont think they CAN sell 13 million FM3s next year even if they wanted to. Does it only happen on one note? I’ve had guitars do weird things I’ve chalked up to the instruments resonant frequency. Difference between powered monitors & a powered mixer with PA speakers

A few pointers here. 12x15 room is challenging enough. An untreated 12x15 room is throwing darts at a dartboard in the dark. What sounds good in that room will likely need tweaking after because the room is not flat. Studio monitors are probably better in your use case, yes. Just be ready to...

Difference between powered monitors & a powered mixer with PA speakers

Woah…….totally different use cases. What is your target use? Just playing at home? Get a good set of studio monitors and invest in some room treatment while you’re at it. Gigging?
