AX* as a Pedalboard

Can the AX8 be used strictly as a pedalboard by just skipping the amp and cab blocks? Sorry if this has been asked before. I didn't see a preset in the exchange for doing this.

I there a patch for effects only? Like a normal pedalboard you know, just in case. I may be over thinking this. I was looking in the patch exchange and I don't see anything. Do I just not put an amp and cab block in. It can't be that simple. I'm not home to try it yet.

Are you talking about the Yamaha B/T receiver? The AX8 does not power the receiver you need a separate USB power supply. Look at You Tube. Great setup vid there.

Using 3 powered cabs with the AX8?

Excuse me for asking but, wouldn't a MONO cab in between 2 stereo Left/Right cabs sort of negate the stereo separation in some way? Unless, you're standing right in front of the L/R cabs. Which in that case if you're panning hard all the FOH hears is whop, whop, whop. Just wondering.

The fact of the matter is they all sound amazing (the top 3 or 4). The trade off now is amps and effects included and workflow. Even the AX-8 doesn't need 200 amps because 40% +/- are Marshalls or clones of Marshalls. How many Marshalls do you need. While the workflow doesn't entirely suck it...

If that bothers you just unplug the XLR then turn it off. I use powered speakers so I treat it like a PA, shut down the mains then kill the board.

Unity on the AX-8 level out is wide open if I'm not mistaken. Are you talkin about playin T-Bones on the 17th? You'll be right up the street. Some of the stock cabs are really bassy. Go to the cab block and set the low cut around 10:00 and see if it helps.

I usually turn them down really, really low. Then flip thru presets. The really loud ones stand out at lower volumes. The rest has to come at gig volume. If you only use it for recording you're lucky.

My Strats input I believe is set at "0". No input clipping. My Jazzycaster with a Pearly Gates in the bridge is set at "-12 or 18" I forget. It's much hotter than I thought it would be.

Removing AX8 Feet for Velcro?

I have also taken a spare slat from a window shade I cut down. They work really good because they're wide. Opposing Velcro on both sides and there ya go. Cut it so it fits BETWEEN the feet. You have a four Velcro thick cushion also.

Unusual question, would like your opinion

The blue line Peavey's effects return used to get a lot of love if you're looking for a backline and they're cheap but HEAVY. Sometimes I use a 4x10 PowerEngine and sometimes a 12" Eon. Both work.

So when I had my 11R I down loaded the 11R user group presets. I found one for a song I was doing and...........usually it wasn't close. Then I started loading presets not paying attention to what they were. I just played a preset and a Beatles song flowed out. Look at the preset and it's Van...

The answer would be use whatever you have or buy whatever you need. You're going into a cab, with the power amps sims "on" and cab sims off. The 700 would work (maybe overkill) but any high power "clean" amp would work. If you buy a tube power amp or go into the return of and existing amp...

Or..............you could get a small 2+/- channel mixer and plug into that. I have a Soundcraft 4 channel and the Frac goes to two and computer goes to two for practice headphones or monitors. You can get cheaper. I have a 2 channel Behringer that works in a pinch but doesn't sound as good...

Holy moly, that was LOUD

I had an Ampeg VT-22 and my best friend (who played with us) was in a wheelchair. I ice-picked him to death - poor guy. The Ampeg was pretty brutal and as loud as a Marshall stack.

Tablet recommendations for FracPad app

I had Frac software running on a Netbook from Walmart running windows. It was like $120 on sale. Updating and saving was incredibly slow but it worked. IPAD now with Yamaha blutooth.

IR is just an acronym for Impulse Response. It could be a reverb or a cabinet sim. It is not a whole preset in itself. Justa an fyi.
