    Quantum or Ares Firmware?

I installed Ares 1 and went back to 10 (had great backups). Now wondering if 2 would have fixed those issues. The other question: It has worked this long.... Why change.

    Ares 2.00 vs Quantum 10.01

I went back from Ares to Quantum; I didn't like the sound of Ares vs Quantum. The expression, it all sounded a bit more hairy and compressed was true for me as well. I'm doing mostly studio work, so trying to re-tweak every base preset and effect seemed an unnecessary task, just to get to where...

RE-amping solution Logic/Mac (all digital paths)

And for al those nay-sayers out there. In a mix you can never tell the difference between the 'real' amp and the modeler. In order of importance to your sound: hands, amp, guitar. My first guitar teacher taught me a valuable lesson: if it doesn't sound good on an acoustic, pedals aint gonna...

RE-amping solution Logic/Mac (all digital paths)

Hey so far I have recorded 2 of my own albums without reamping and played on many more, so I should be good :) It is just like in the old days: guitar -> pedals -> amp -> mic -> console..... No reamping, LOL. Appreciate the help though, always trying to learn something new. James

RE-amping solution Logic/Mac (all digital paths)

Glenn that sounds interesting. I use my old Eleven Rack as my audio I/F so I do have a dry guitar signal there. I just need to figure out how to push that out via SPDIF to the AXE FX. Interesting thought. OK did that, but o boy did that go wrong :) Guitar in, as D/I from 11-rack, send...

RE-amping solution Logic/Mac (all digital paths)

That is correct, however over SPDIF you can only record 1 signal. To record AXE FX output and DI you need to use the AXE FX as the audio interface as well. There is no way to record wet/dry signal over spdif, unless create a bypass on your preset and pan hard left/right in the preset output...

FracTool - for power users only

It turns out that when I download without having OPENDNS active it goes way faster. OpenDNS is a tool to limit access for my children to certain things on the net. Good to know. Merci bien, Al. But actually you are on the other side..... LOL

FracTool - for power users only

Just did. It is not lightning fast, but downloaded in 3 minutes. Now I have to figure out why this problem exists. I will keep on investigating. Thanks for your reply

FracTool - for power users only

OK, That was quick, I will try a different ISP connection right now and see if that makes a difference.

FracTool - for power users only

Could I make 1 simple suggestion? Make it possible to ignore the upgrade. It just announced 3.06 and I don't want to download it (don't have a AXE III) but I cannot. And the download is soooo slow. (Like a 19 baud modem, if there are still people who remember this) It shows 2 hours left to...

Axe-Fx II into Eleven Rack for Pro Tools on Mac?

I know this is 6 years late, but for whomever comes after me: the S/PDIF method of recording has an enormous (very noticeable) sound difference vs recording straight through the AXE FX. I have the AXE FX II XL+ and the sound through the S/PDIF is tinnier, shriller, and has less bass definition...

David Gilmour 5 A.M. Rattle That Lock (on progress)

Piing, AWESOME tone. I was looking for something like this for a while. I use the Area's series as well, BUT I installed a dual tone put (0-5 = 500K, 6-10 = 1M) and a BLEND pot that blends between the bridge & neck pickup, allowing me to dial in just a bit of bridge pickup with it. It is a...

Fractal Audio AMP Models: Yeks PDF Guide

Mijnheer van Engelen, the donation is on the way. This Amp guide and your drive guide are a very valuable resource. Although, one thing. I used to own the 1981 TubeScreamer and it looked identical to the 1980 picture, but it DID have the TS9 designation already. (gekocht bij Dirk Witte in de...

Paul, It sounds like a great plan. I wish I had the time. But I guess it is all about making the time. However, I truly appreciate the advise. I have stored your suggestion for future follow-up.

    Larry Mitchell amp models

Tried them only with my tele with dimarzio area T pickups in it and the luxe sounded ok, but I didn't like the rest. I will try them again with my Suhr or LP, just to see what difference switching to HB's makes. I saw he had a HB as his bridge pickup and used that almost exclusively during the...

OMG just upgraded from Eleven Rack to Axe FX II XL+

The 11R has 2 good things going for it that the axe fx cannot do: xlr mic input with phantom power. And recording at 24 bit 96khz. Also the 11R has 8 inputs as a recording device, where axe fx has only 4. People will buy them, but you get maybe $250-$300. also, I had to set my axe fx buffer to...

OMG just upgraded from Eleven Rack to Axe FX II XL+

Not yesterday, but did this morning. It makes a lot of difference what cab you use. Wow. I also installed some patches from exchange but removed most again, due to horrible feedback issues. It is like there is a Tick at the time of preset change that crates feedback to the point where it is...

OMG just upgraded from Eleven Rack to Axe FX II XL+

I played the 11R for the last 3 years in my studio. and even though I was happy with it mostly, I was always struggling to get that "sound" out of it that I used to get out of my amps and pedals. Tonight hooked up my new (and first) axe fx and started on preset 000. (After upgrading firmware to...
