    speed picking, the oblique approach

The updated 3rd edition of this book is now available for anyone who would like it. Now "Precision Plectrum Control..." https://gtroblq.blogspot.com/2017/07/the-free-guide-to-rock-guitar-speed.html BTW, I'll have to tweak my MkIV patch after the latest FW update.

    speed picking, the oblique approach

Last year I put together a little e-book detailing my picking approach for some friends. That got some good responses so I was encouraged to spruce it up a little bit and I just came up with the '2nd Edition' -- all free of course, for anybody who wants it. Here's a link to further info and how...

    Suhr Modern Satin - Opinions

Uh, no, that's not it. What I'm talking about is a known issue with that model of guitar. Google it. I have lots of guitars with many types of finish and I know how to take care of guitars. Have been since 1982. The problem is that on the satin line they really do not put much into the sanding...

    Suhr Modern Satin - Opinions

I have one. I played it non-stop for a couple of years (like four hours per day on average) and then grew to really dislike the neck. If you search around on google you'll find that some owners come to dislike the way the back of the neck changes over time from being 'satin' smooth to sticky and...

Must have plug ins for Recording? (pultec eq)

The UAD Pultec EQs are very nice. The 1073 is also very good as are the API plugins For native stuff there is jeroen breebaart's plugins that are very affordable, really really good, and criminally underrated: https://www.toneboosters.com/plugins.html If I had more money I'd buy a couple of...

Gibson selling off their memphin TN factory

As a kid the iconic guitar for me was the Les Paul. That's what I wanted more than anything. I ended up owning a few Gibsons over the years but I couldn't get over the little problems they all had and ended up selling all of them at one point or another. The last time I was on the hunt for a LP...

    Best deals you've ever found

I bought a vintage Dano Convertible for $50 back in the mid80s from a kid out in the country that I flipped for a good return. Getting rid of string noise in quiet bits? (Sample provided)

Mapes is the wire co. that made all the wire for US firms back in the day. You can by Mapes strings direct from the factory at a really good price. Or you can pay twice as much for rebranded Mapes strings ;)

    Tom Anderson Angel

Yeah, probably so, as it would be for 24-fret guitars in general. However, from what I understand the neck pickup on this guitar is not quite as close to the bridge as it could be because it lacks a cover. I read somewhere on the TAG site that they push it back toward the neck a little when they...

Any advice for one man musical projects?

I happened across this guy in a bistro in Rochester . The guy who ran the place actually asked him to turn the music up so the guys in the back could hear it better. I'd never heard that request before LOL. He really has his live thing down. Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, vocals, backing vocals...
  25. ieso

    Tom Anderson Angel

Yeah, I own two Suhrs. I like the neck on the TAG better. The fretwork is about the same but the 'heavy' frets on the TAG are unique: semi-triangular. You can't go wrong either way.

After playing a guitar with XXXX, I'll never go back

When I started out in the early 80s it was "whatever" and over 30-something years I grew increasingly finicky to the point where I would obsess over every little thing, scale length, nut width, string spacing at the bridge, radius, fret material, pickup impedance, magnet material, fret shape...

Pete Thorn Proves what Cliff always says

Is pickslating usless, this guy say YES

As others have pointed out, there is no one best way. In my experience, every picking technique has its application and is valid and worth studying. If you just want unadulterated speed, then by that terminology ('pick slanting') would slow me down. But maybe not you. I have a very personal...

The only time I use the Hi-Z input on my interface is if I am using a software amp in my DAW ... you can also do things like record bass direct that way but otherwise guitar -> AxeFx -> interface. Interface to Axe to interface would introduce unnecessary latency
