    Boss IR-2 - Fractal Killer?

Years ago when I embraced the AX-8 I bought an Ampli-FireBox as a backup (amp sim pedal, drive pedal, and delay pedal on a small board makes a handy backup). Never had to use it, but always threw it in the bag just in case. When the AXE-FXIII came out I bought one of those and the AX-8 became...

The future of amp modeling and Fractal?

Not to mention it is probably in almost every guitar store. I'm sure it sounds great too. Several of my students have had Fender combo modeling amps over the years and they sounded fine. Not my AX-FXIII through a high end FRFR, but pleasing and good enough that no one would notice or complain...

The future of amp modeling and Fractal?

Fractal may have been first to do this and do this well, but I suspect most modelers can do this as well now. I would like to see Fractal expand on this. Currently you can only send midi when changing a scene. Would be nice to map a midi command to a footswitch....say I want to strobe the...

The future of amp modeling and Fractal?

I'm not arguing that the other units are as good as Fractal, but that they are "good enough" for most people. I teach guitar for a living and it is rare I see a student who has played through a tube amp. All they know are modelers, and not the high end ones. To be honest, they don't sound bad...

The future of amp modeling and Fractal?

Let me start by saying I'm a HUGE Fractal fan and have no intention of abandoning my Fractal devices (AXE-FXIII, FM3, AX8....and yes I still use all 3). Back when I finally embraced modeling, Fractal and Kemper were the only solutions that sounded convincing. These days it seems every one and...

Sorry to keep everyone hanging. I had some external issues that delayed me from following up, but I did eventually send it in to Fractal, they turned it around in one day (replaced the USB connector) shipped it back. All appears fine now. Afterwards I learned one of my students had to ship an...

Keeping the Looper sync'd with Midi Clock?

Update: Just noticed my Boomerang III looper has an "active midi sync algorithm" that keeps it in sync with an external midi clock forever. This was added in 2014, firmware v3.3 of the Boomerang. See here - https://www.boomeranglooper.com/pages/firmware Not sure what is involved, but would be...

    FM3 USB issues

Well I've verified it is an FM3 USB issue. I tried my FXIII today with the same laptop and it was rock solid, no issues. Switching back to the FM3 I noticed the rear Type B USB connector has a lot of play - so I'll be following up with Fractal support.

    FM3 USB issues

Hey Gang, I just replaced my laptop (old one died) and I'm setting up the new laptop (Thinkpad X1 Extreme) with the FM3 so I can use Midi 2 Guitar and some soft synths for pads and what not. I've done this a bunch with the old laptop and the FXIII, but not the new laptop and the FM3. I'm...

Keeping the Looper sync'd with Midi Clock?

Thanks! Never did much with MIDI clock before, so that's good to know. I have controlled loops from my DAW in the past, works like a charm. Guess I'll go back to the PC/DAW route....I was experimenting with a simple drum machine to see what is possible. The drum machine (via MIDI clock) does a...

Keeping the Looper sync'd with Midi Clock?

I took the midi (clock) out from a drum machine and ran it into the FX3's midi in - FX3 sees the midi clock no problem. Set the looper to "quantize" and recorded a loop. To my surprise, the loop will eventually drift out of sync. To be fair it stays sync'd a long time (longer than needed for...

The Axe FXIII is a hell of a deal when you look at what you get for the money....but hey, I get it, if you don't have the money it doesn't matter how great it is. I could say the same for the FM3 or my old AX8. For someone really on a tight budget that already owned a few pedals, one of the...

Wish More instances of Looper block

Yes, you can. It has been a long time since I played with this, but I never was able to get a slow enough fade out using this approach. From what I recall, a second or 2 was about the longest fade I was able to achieve using an LFO, so wasn't really interesting.

Yes, please expand the looper. I'd love for the AXE FX III Looper to do everything my Boomerang III looper can do, but I'd settle just for having multiple loops that can be serial or parallel (and parallel loops can be n times loner than the original), even if it was all in the same block. Do most people record direct from USB from the Axe-Fx, or do you use an audio interface between?

I think it is more of a workflow thing. Nothing wrong with either approach. Production approaches for that "dueling guitar" sound + vocals?

Two guitars, bass, drums, and vocal is a very common lineup in many genres. I do lots of production work for singer songwriters and small bands, which in my area tend to be pop/soul/country/etc, so very different from your style, but the same concepts apply. First off, you want to separate...

Why is there no "Axe-Fx IIl Tone Match" section in this forum?

So true. And if you have several acoustic guitars you will find each behaves differently. Not to mention recording an acoustic track for a sparse arrangement is different than recording an acoustic track to sit in a rock mix.

Why is there no "Axe-Fx IIl Tone Match" section in this forum?

While an sm57 will certainly work to mic an acoustic guitar and might even give a TM result that improves the on board pickup, it is not an ideal or even "recommended" mic for an acoustic guitar. Just used the Axe-Fx III for client's country/pop recording

Thank you chumbucket! Yes, the thing about running a studio and doing session work is you have to play what the client wants. Same with teaching guitar (my other job). Though I'd say all these things have made me a better player. I'd highly encourage everyone to spend time learning some of the...

Just used the Axe-Fx III for client's country/pop recording

I thought some of the folks considering a fractal might like to hear the FX-III being used in a non hard rock/metal genre. Here is some work I just finished for a country/pop artist. Not having to mic up an amp, wear headphones for overdubs, or remove amp hum was a huge plus. For the curious...

Heads up - Axe Edit III won't run on a Compute Stick

Soundcraft Ui24R. Awesome box, sounds great and a joy to use. No app to install - just point a web browser at it and you are set. They have an online demo you can play with and try out the interface. Short of a modern real console, this is my favorite live mixer. In the studio I'm still pure analog.

Heads up - Axe Edit III won't run on a Compute Stick

Thanks mixministermike! Touchscreen is made by Planar - was $190 shipped via Amazon. Figured what the heck - I'm not watching movies on it, just controlling my Soundcraft mixer...already had a cheap compute stick that I purchased a while back as an experiment for another project....$100 or so I...

Heads up - Axe Edit III won't run on a Compute Stick

Just in case someone out there is considering running Axe Edit III on an Intel Compute stick....the cheap compute sticks are 32 bit OS only and Axe Edit III was apparently only compiled for 64 bit OS....which is 99% of the world these days. So why would you want to run Axe Exit III on a...

Closed Adding selectable sample rate feature with Firmware update?

As a studio owner and working guitarist, here is my take on the whole sample rate issue.... Keeping a single sample rate enables Cliff and his team to optimize the algorithms for that sample rate, getting the best audio quality for the least amount of processing power. Supporting multiple...

How do you create IRs for acoustics?

    That did the trick! Thanks!

How do you create IRs for acoustics?

Update: My III arrived on Friday and today I finally stopped playing long enough to fiddle with the TMA. Matched my R6 LP to my tele - sounds pretty good! But I've noticed two possible bugs or user error issues..... 1. When you export the TMA to a user IR, there is a field where you can name...

How do you create IRs for acoustics?

Thanks 666was999. Once UPS finally delivers my III (this weekend if all goes well), I can start playing with the TMA block and see how it goes. If that doesn't satisfy I'll start trying to create IR's with my DAW. I know Izotope Advanced (which I own) has a tone match function, and turning eq...
