SOLVED - Auto-Engage Not Working Now - Exp Pedals are Good

That was it! Thanks Brian! The polarity switch on the bottom of my Moog pedal had gotten set to "other" instead of "standard." Such a simple solution yet it was driving me crazy. Thanks, much appreciated!

SOLVED - Auto-Engage Not Working Now - Exp Pedals are Good

I don't think I've used these presets since I updated to 9.04. They are not some of my main presets. I went to the preset with the rotary last night at a gig and was surprised that I could not get it to shut off with the heel down. Today I checked some presets that have a wah with the...

SOLVED - Auto-Engage Not Working Now - Exp Pedals are Good

Thanks, I went ahead and reloaded FW 9.04 but as you suspected it didn't change anything. I have an EV-1 and a MOOG and I've tested them both. I have a volume block set up and they both work fine for that. It just seems to be the auto-engage that has an issue. When I first go to the preset with...

SOLVED - Auto-Engage Not Working Now - Exp Pedals are Good

Also when I go to that preset at first the effect (rotary, wah) is off until I engage the expression pedal then from that point on heel down will not disengage it. I will upload a preset.

SOLVED - Auto-Engage Not Working Now - Exp Pedals are Good

Auto-engage on my expression pedals are no longer working. I've changed no settings. I've tried both of my expression pedals (Fractal EV-1 and Moog) to see if the pedal may be the problem and they both do the same so it's not the pedal. My auto-engage settings are the same as before when...

    Output Level Question

I have my output levels set at +4 dB practicing at home on my monitors. I have my patch levels set with this in mind. When I play out I usually am told by the sound person that my level is really hot even with the mix board gain way down. I have to turn my output level one knob to about 9...

AX8 to have FX loop and output2?

I have a small Mackie mixer that I use for just this. I keep it next to me on stage and it gives me volume and tone shaping abilities for my stage mix. This works well since I don't want to mess with the FOH signal after its set for the venue but for my monitoring I may want something a bit...

    AX8 modifications???

I personally would see no need and am completely happy with mine. This is what they do as they so...

Am I the only one who has downsized my pedal board?

I still use a small pedalboard which is in the FX loop of the AX8. On it is a Strymon Dig, BigSky, Line 6 G50 wireless and 2 FS5U's which control the bright switch and the hold function on the AX8. I also have a couple EV-1 expression pedals. I go direct to FOH and this gives me everything I...

This is weird. All of a sudden I have no signal except from the 1/4" right side. XLR's are not working and left side 1/4" not working. This happened suddenly and yes I've check all my cables and volume levels. I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?

    FXLoop for Big Sky...

So I run to FOH with Output 1 XLR and Output 1 1/4" to stage monitor(s) and FX loop to external pedals. True you don't have separate volume control for each Output 1 but I find that once I set my stage monitors I rarely need to mess with the volume again.

  31. Jammer77

Do you use amp knobs on your AX8?

Don't really use them since they only affect the current preset. I prefer using the global EQ to adjust for a particular venue and at home I use AX8 Edit.
  32. Jammer77

Using a reverb pedal to save CPU?

I wouldn't be concerned. The unit is quite capable to be an all-in-one unit and I could use it that way. The thing is I owned my Strymon pedals before I had the AX8 and used them with my tube amp rig. I just decided to use them with the AX8 to give me some extra horsepower and to use some of...

Using a reverb pedal to save CPU?

I'm using a Strymon BigSky and a Strymon Dig in an FX Loop and it's working great. I save tons of CPU and can easily achieve some settings that are easily tweakable on the fly and of course sound amazing.
  34. Jammer77

    AX8 FOH with in-ears?

I have tried going ampless and using IEMs. I just can't get used to them. I love direct to FOH but had to go back to wedge monitors. I use a JBL for the full monitor mix and a DXR10 for my guitar. IEM's just sound too isolated and lacking a fullness that I just couldn't get past.

I would like to know this too. There seems to be various opinions from running at 12 o'clock or less to running at 100%. Has there been any official word as to what is optimum as far as maximizing tone is concerned?
  46. Jammer77

    using all 4 outputs?

I do this all the time. Out 1 XLR to FOH and Out 1 1/4" to onstage monitors. I also use Out 2 for external FX loop. Just remember that you can only use cab emulation the same on both Out 1's since they are not separate.

3 month review: thoughts so far

In your musings I got the sense that you were feeling quite a lot of nostalgia for your previous rig setup. With the obvious time and effort you put into your pre-AX8 rig and your seeming satisfaction with it I'm just curious the motivation to make the switch.

    Other Pedals w AX8??

I use a Strymon BigSky, Strymon Dig and a Neunaber Stereo Wet Reverb all mounted on a separate pedalboard along with my G50 wireless. How to? Turn off/on bass cut without Axe-Edit

I looked for this in the manual but I could not find it. I use Axe-Edit for most of my editing but if I'm at a gig and I need to do a quick edit to turn off or on the base cut switch on the amp block how do I do that on the unit directly? I know how to select the amp block and press edit and...

Welcome and I think you'll be very happy! I'm a long-time tube amp guy who recently went to the AX8 and no regrets at all. My live playing is mostly P&W also and the AX8 sounds awesome. Quick Question from a newbie regarding Amp knobs on AX8

I think you're on the right path. The Helix demos always sounded a bit harsh and fizzy in the high end and lacking in warmth. I'm a tube amp guy for many years but have had my AX8 for 4 months now and have absolutely no regrets! Great tone and simplified rig!

  57. Jammer77

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

I agree with Smittefar above. I have no problem with gaps. I have one bank of 8 presets that cover what I need. I don't switch presets within one song and I don't use amp block x/y but instead I use CTL switches to change from clean to dirty. I don't want to change amps in a preset but prefer to...

    ax8 backup emergency amp

For me, even when I know there's a good monitor system I still bring an FRFR (or 2 for stereo) because I still like to have full control over what I'm hearing. As far as bringing a head and cab I guess I have just gotten to the point that I prefer my tone and the versatility with the AX8 and...

First Rehearsal with the AX8 tonight,.... :(

This! Dialing in at gig volume is crucial. I had the same experience the first time out. Fletcher Munson effect - when you increase the volume you will most like need to do some high and low cuts. That's why dialing in a gig volume is important.

    External Looper with AX8

Wondering if anyone is using an external looper like the Boss RC300 with the AX8? If so, how are you integrating it into your signal path? I know, there is a built in looper but feature-wise doesn't come close to what you can do with the Boss or other higher end looper.

Using an EHX Superego with the AX-8

I do this with the AX8 using the hold function on the reverb. I set reverb fairly wet and use either with or without a volume pedal for swells. The hold freezes the chord and then you can play over it with any FX you want like a delay for instance. I use a Boss FS-5U in latch mode as an...

    I Consider to buy AX8

I already had a Strymon BigSky and Dig when I got my AX8. The FX in the AX8 are stellar but I've found that adding the Strymon's into the FX loop has been perfect as I can get the sounds I'm used to and save a huge amount of CPU.

    Live / Studio Patch Differences

Except I am running a couple Strymon pedals through the FX loop so I don't have Out 2 available.
  73. Jammer77

    Live / Studio Patch Differences

So then that would be the case running to any FOH mixer as well? "Ruining the sound quality"
  74. Jammer77

    Live / Studio Patch Differences

Gotcha. I was thinking of the physical EQ knobs. The mixer works for me and I like having the ability to easily adjust quickly if needed.
  75. Jammer77

    Live / Studio Patch Differences

Disagree, the global EQ's aren't saved when you switch presets. It's fine if your just running 1 preset for the event but many including myself run more than 1 during a gig. The Mackie has high quality Onyx preamps and when A/B'd can't tell a difference. To each his own.

    Welcome to the adventure!
  77. Jammer77

    Live / Studio Patch Differences

This! The Fletcher Munson effect. It's a common scenario. The way I handle this is I started running my Output from the AX8 into a small Mackie mixer then out to FOH from there. This gives me the ability to EQ my signal to tune it to that particular venue. I know you could use the front EQ knobs...

    New ax8

What input are you using on your Peavey? Are you going into the front of your amp or just power section? That can make a huge difference. Capturing a Stereo Image

    AX8 in live gig

I have one bank of presets which covers everything I need. The main difference in the presets is just having different effects because I can't get them all in one preset because of the CPU limits. They all have the same amp and cabinets and similar drive and filter blocks. From that point I...

    Tip: Adjustable Lead Volume

I did that at first but there will always be a gap when switching X/Y even if the same amp. A better way is to use Control Switch to change gain and levels since there is no gap. You can assign CTL 1 to a foot switch in place of amp X/Y.

Need to have both mono and stereo presets

When I am Stereo to FOH the panning is not extreme at all. At most 10 & 2 o'clock. Just enough to create some spaciousness and the rooms are typically not too wide to be an issue.
  85. Jammer77

Anybody tried an external preamp in front of the AX8 ?

What were the results? Anything is worth experimenting with I guess but in a way it seems like complicating things since the AX8 has such great amp models and IR's and sounds amazing on its own.

I have all of my presets set up as stereo because I usually play live in stereo and also love the separation when practicing in my studio. I could do,that but I would really prefer the FOH receive that main Out with the cabs on because they sound so awesome. Solution for not being able to use Out 2 while using FX Loop

Sure wish you could have cabs both on and off on the separate Out 1's. One to FOH and the other to amp and cabs on stage.
