According to the manual, pressing record a second time stops recording and starts playback when using the footswitches. Is it not the same when using midi?

Good to know! So, I'm sending CC28 with a value of 127 to start record, then another of the same to play and then CC29 at 127 to stop playback. I see the unit as receiving MIDI at each of those times but no recording takes place? Am I missing something?

The loop will stay in sync indefinitely if you've recorded it to the click. Am I correct in thinking that you'd like to begin a song that has a click and then turn on the loop record and grab x amount of bars and then turn off the looper and have that loop keep playing until you turn it off?

What wireless unit are you running with the AX8?

Did you have any issues getting the MIDI ports to populate in Settings? I have an ASUS Transformer running Win 10 and if I'm lucky I get the MIDI In to come up but the MIDI Out never shows an option to choose. Thanks!
