Any update regarding fractal amps running in the computer with software?

Any update regarding fractal amps running in the computer with software? I'm getting Universal Audio's ( Apollo Twin MkII ) audio interface. Is it possible to get a very similar sound/feel in comparison to the AX8 connected to the Apollo Twin MkII; from a good computer, without getting latency?

Going Stereo is just SO COOL!!!

Effects sound gloriously in stereo. However, when it comes to FOH sound, stereo separation may not translate very well to a live audience, because people seldom are in the right spot to hear both sides equally well. :)
  3. J

Going Stereo is just SO COOL!!!

If FOH is able to run stereo all you got to do is send stereo from fractal to FOH and mono to your FRFR or cab. Right?

Going Stereo is just SO COOL!!!

What stops other people from running stereo? More complicated to setup?

    In this case yes!
  6. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

There no reason to unstring a planet waves string trim locking tuner. If you do, you put new string!
  7. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

@Musikron The tuners ratio has a lot to do with getting it in the sweet spot in a non locking nut guitar! Why where locking tuners invented as well? Blocking the trem will help! I am blocking it for other reasons explained previously in the thread.
  8. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

@mwd They are working on a tremolo ET ;) About altered tuning; easy. Have a 2nd guitar with a normal fixed bridge and tune it to whatever you want. Or if it's just two alternate tuning's have two ET guitars :)
  9. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

@mwd Very well explained! I mean you have ET for 5 years. You def advise installing it? Breaking a string even on a normal fixed bridge guitar would oblige you to go backstage and re-string it, so it should be no different on the ET. So; as long as guitar is in tune when you leave the house...

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

Jem with Evertune! Btw, if for any reason (i know it would be rare), you need to tune your guitar live between a song; you can't do it without the fine tuning key?
  11. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

@mwd uh-huh! Well that's a huge bonus for me, as I like fresh strings before a concert, without needing to play or stretch them much. You don't stretch them at all? I don't like stretching 11-49's on E tuning too much, as they become too stiff. So it will be awesome to stretch them less, and...

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

@mwd Sorry but english is not my mother tongue; i'm still learning some guitar vocabulary, specially when it concerns evertune :D What does it mean? You mean evertune creates more tension on the strings than regular fixed bridges? Well it's a little compromise...
  13. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

Say you remove all the old strings and change them with same gauge; and you are already familiar with evertune! How long does it take you to get it setup perfect; to play like a regular fixed bridge guitar does and not go out of tune; unless you throw it against the floor!
  14. J

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

I have tremol-no installed. Not good enough! I 'm done with tricky and complicated setups! That's why i quit on evertune!

Just when i'm about to buy AX8 i read this: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fasfx-amp.114782/page-4 Post 67! What's your opinion? Considering the IT world is always advancing; isn't it possible for Cliff to find a good processor replacement? I would expect a better version of the...

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

Loved the video haha. That was some serious beating! Still for him to get the guitar like that took him quite a while to adjust i think. When he changes strings and removes all the old ones to clean the neck, he will have to repeat same process! Lets not forget, the cheap trem on his guitar...

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

Thanks a lot! Very well detailed, to the point info! I am decided to block the trem otherwise would follow your steps religiously! Let's not forget necks are also to blame, specially thin necks. They are just unstable! Actually as has been mentioned already in the later posts and I discussed...

    Locking tuners on Ibanez Jem.

I'm reluctant to install Evertune because of the bending and feel issues. So for the most stable tuning on my Ibanez Jem with "Lo Pro Edge", i'm thinking to install "Planet Waves Auto-Trim Tuning Machines" which are direct mounted, so no need to drill! Even the Auto-Trim feature is a huge turn...

Audio Interface needed to record with AX8?

I am getting a pair of really good, studio monitors. For the moment all i want to do is play with AX8 once i get it; and do some recordings just to mess around and learn cubase. Is an audio interface needed to record properly with AX8? Will it bring significant advantage to latency and maybe...

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Nice guitar sound and song. If Yngwie had to lift his gear around he would use 2 heads and 2 cabs. I think he will use tubes till he dies. I'm fine with fractal!
  22. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Exactly, i was referring to the amp block, but people usually mention cab bocks together with amp blocks. But as you said same math. Well, it's really a no brainer to me; i must use MFC.

Does evertune bridge remove the need for a true temperament fretboard?

The reason i am unsure about evertune, is the picky treatment it needs to get it right. Apart from that i was informed as long as you use the same gauge and brand when changing strings, the guitar will be perfectly in tune. If i hear good feedback on true temperament and evertune i will install...
  24. J

Does evertune bridge remove the need for a true temperament fretboard?

Regardless of fretting pressure which is part of technique anyway and can be solved with the evertune as @metal190 mentioned, my biggest fear is taking virtuosity playing away by having the frets bended; otherwise i'l do it!
  25. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Thanks. That was very educational! I'm sold to Fractal from a few days ago. Just learning more and getting some details together.

Fairly close is good enough for me! If i install evertune and it improves intonation across the fretboard it might be enough though.
  29. J

Your experience with .010, .013. Breakage?

Edge are better than "Lo pro edge". That's what steve vai and satriani still use. Yeah since E is what breaks most at the saddle i usually rub a pencil in it to smooth it. Yeah this 1995 jem got to go to an expert for analysis like as if it were a formula 1 car; and check which parts need...

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Thanks! But i really want to be able to switch from my favorite clean amp, to fav crunch amp, to fav lead amp. Your experience with .010, .013. Breakage?

The EB paradigm seem to be the next leap in guitar strings :D I am super excited to try them! Hope they will do plenty of tension gauges. Yeah i like the tension in the upper strings! Better feel for more chunky, rock/metal tones. This is my fav gauge: .010, .013, .017, .028, .038, .049. 8-38...
  32. J

Does evertune bridge remove the need for a true temperament fretboard?

Whammy evertunes are not yet developed. For my ear intonation with standard necks is not very acceptable. We all know about the E and A chord for e.x. The reason i did not go true temperament, is that it might take playability away. Steve vai and other well known virtuosos are not using them
  33. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

AX8 would replace MFC right? 2 amps in AX, 2 amps in AXE = 4 seamless switching amps. This is actually a briliant idea! Have you heard folks using this method and satisfied?
  34. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Yep! Damn, a significant increase in €. But might well be worth the extra.
  35. J

Your experience with .010, .013. Breakage?

My biggest problem is when streching them (i strech them hard), or doing big bends on the E string. B breaks streching only mostly. E breaks more if .010; less if .011. That's been my experience anyway :(

Your experience with .010, .013. Breakage?

Hey Guys, I used: 011, .014, .018p, .028, .038, .049. Because of being able to stretch strings better without breakage, and lower risk of breakage playing live. Ideally i'm looking to change to: .010, .013, .017, .028, .038, .049. For easier bends on the top 3 strings and less strain! Do you...

I got awarded a Rock and Roll trophy! Hooray! Yep 100 messages and counting :D
  39. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Yes! For those who can only afford 1 unit wether AXE or AX8 it would be nice AXE FX3 or AX9 have 3 gapless switching cab blocks.
  40. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

I have no doubts about it! Each in it's own branch. Personally i want to be able to switch between 3 amps all the time without lag; with reverb, sometimes delay, sometimes chorus. I don't think thats asking too much! If AX8 doesn't do that; FX2 will!
  41. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

The way i imagine my setup is having 3 main presets. 3 different amps; seamless switching between them. I'l need 2 AXE FX's. But will start with 1!
  42. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Well then; when you switch between a dirty and clean you have to think in advance to switch just before the one beat? That's for me is limiting. I don't want to think about anything other than the presets i have to switch. Just be in the moment and play!
  43. J

Have you played AX8 live with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway?

Have you played AX8 live switching from one amp to another with no issues on the lag; without compensating in anyway? AX8 has hardware limitations and i dont think any firmware update will ever fix it. Maybe Cliff can clear it out. If users are having problems with it; i prefer spending more...

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

So by "professional mic placement wrapped up in my IR"; you meant it sounds good as it is from factory? English is not my mother tongue so i still miss some details. I am learning!
  45. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Staff always recommend SS power amps. Unless tubes are less harsh to the ears when you got your cab or FRFR loud; i finally! don't see any reason to use tubes.
  46. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

You break down complex scenarios into simple framing. Brilliant! I am going to read on IR; but if you got a moment could you send me a pic or video wether yours(if you already have one) or from others, about doing a "professional IR mic placement" so i can do it myself for a live situation. I...
  47. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Yes, last year micing, i experienced a dull, weak sound, sometimes giving the impression of notes being micro cents sharp or flat. I did not mic cab offstage; so it was not loud as i wanted it to be. The IEM's were cheap crap as well. This is the reason i'm going digital and run direct. No...
  48. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Yes; what i meant is that you dont need tubes for great recordings; but micing a speaker still has influence. If you have the conditions you may not use IR's.
  49. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Alleluia, a proper answer! @Iwknives for president! So tubes basically have an effect when you and people listen to the sound from the cabinet with a real speaker. The ear kinda likes it more, when cranked up. Apart from this single point, digital replace tubes for anything else! I'm sold! Took...

Axe Fx through Active monitors and PA. Differences?

I thought he was talking about stage sound guy like we had in a band i played last year.
  51. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Yes in this case you're right!
  52. J

Axe Fx through Active monitors and PA. Differences?

This is expected. I use InEars; FRFR is to add more sound and atmosphere, and as a backup if InEars amunition fails. What does the house engineer has to do with the sound you get? If you got your own FRFR's you're the man on the helm! This is expected! They also compress more!
  53. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

hehehe; i knew this was ART's stuff. What i had in my head when i started this topic was having AXE FX as it is but with sth like SS tubes in it; just for a more organic texture. Does it make sense for the ears or from an engineering perspective; i dont know!
  54. J

Music composition on good quality FRFR system. No studio monitors!

Def; thing is il have to spend much less money on FRFR. Either reasonable 2nd hand or a cheaper brand. But it's the most reasonable way to go :)
  55. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Oh come on. You know plenty of guitarists still record tubes and mic cabinets right? :) I need to read sound engineering articles or a book about it to understand :P
  56. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

9:34. It's an old video. I'm not bashing digital otherwise i wouldn't consider buying an AX8 or FX2. I am just learning why and getting points of view. The lounge is more suited for that, i hope. Fractal holds a better value than other digital competitors. About vintage amps it depends; they...

Music composition on good quality FRFR system. No studio monitors!

Sorry english is not my mother tongue. You mean you got the previous version of the one i posted? Still; isn't it better to have quality studio monitors to play AX8 through and cheaper FRFR for the stage, than buying expensive FRFR that i wont be able to use properly for recording? For home...
  58. J

Music composition on good quality FRFR system. No studio monitors!

What would you choose in my scenario, Xitone or atomic clr, and which model? This one appeals to me as its active, seems portable enough not taking much space, and would seat well in a stand as studio monitors. http://xitonecabs.com/models/active-1x12-wedge/index.html
  59. J

Music composition on good quality FRFR system. No studio monitors!

Can music composition on good quality FRFR system be made? The reason i prefer these is because i can use it both home for playing guitar and composing, and on stage as amunition, therefore saving $. I don't need powerful speakers! Will 2000€ buy me a good pair for the two purposes?
  60. J

Axe Fx through Active monitors and PA. Differences?

Apart from acoustic conditions, sound engineer, etc, in a live situation. Can i expect the sound i get from a good pair of studio monitors to be more or less the same through a PA? Studio monitors altough small are FRFR as well so i don't need a bigger FRFR system to test right? I hope not as...
  61. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Exactly! Still i read bands like Wintersun still use tubes in the studio; etc etc. There are plenty of bands doing this, and there must be a reason! For everything else and logistics wise, fractal stuff is awesome. Lets not forget tube heads are easier to repair and dont loose much value. I'm...
  62. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Are you fractal's sales attorney or something? Even the own staff wouldn't be so protective. I have nothing against fractal; just getting my research done. I'm learning. I noticed when they play the anthem they always use tube heads. It could be because they can and its more resistant... Also...

I never said they don't use fractals. I read somewhere for some shows they use tubes. Maybe it was when they started using fractals and experimenting. True. Good point. Thanks! Studio and PA related fractal can sound better than the real thing! I heard Meshuggah live and they were most...

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Recorded trough DAW you can't hear much difference. On the 2nd video it's more accurate. I've heard captured on camera a kemper through cab vs randall head. You could clearly hear a difference. I can't find the video now to show you. I tell you this is bullocks. Pros get free gear for...

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

I look forward! Agreed! Yes but it's also relative for the reasons i mentioned unix-guy. Fractal staff advises solid state! Did you try tube and solid state? Why you choose tubes? Cos if it works good then i pretty much will have it all! The wall of sound, 3D, tube warmth, AMP/FX Sim. Perfect!
  67. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

I am all about moving forward but as i answered unix-guy tubes still have that extra! And dynamics. I have pro friends in fb who did blind tests and everytime they choose tubes. The reason i love fractal is the tone; simply unbeliveable for transistors and super complex software. And all the...
  68. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Yes, but from youtube alone with my HI-FI speakers, a tube head and cabinet has a bigger wall of sound and more 3D; and some other sonic details which are hard to explain. Yes i can hear a difference. But no doubt axe fx is outstanding!
  69. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

  70. J

Rack mounted equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it.

Has Fractal considered a rack mounted (something like a tube pre amp) equivalent to an Axe Fx with tubes in it. Or it makes no sense? Like, "Digitech GSP 2101" which is a valve preamp processor, Amp/FX simulator. I've heard of pro players putting some tube/DY box to give a more organic sound.

Lag on the AX8 when switching presets.

I am glad for you. How did you find it's sound live?
  72. J

Lag on the AX8 when switching presets.

Personally i think FAS nailed it all the way, since the beginning. Getting the Lag issue sorted on the AX8 (if it;s possible) is necessary. If not i've mentioned a few times AXEII has us covered on that. Apart from that AX8 needs nothing else from what it offers as a package.
  73. J

Lag on the AX8 when switching presets.

I am not bitching or making premeditated conclusions until i have AX8 in my hands. Though, in the end of the day, if it's a problem, it's a problem! Personally i use either reverb, delay or sometimes a mix of the two. That's mainly it; and it would be good if a solution could be found without...

This approach would be the case for each song. I would then have different amps and settings for other songs. They could be consistent or not in a "3 different amps swithing" scenario, as my playing base. Would i need "two" Axe II's? Or "three" Ax8's; which is out of question!

Lag on the AX8 when switching presets.

Sure. Pedals, scenes, PEQ block, are all solutions for the live situation I've described. To much tweaking though, goes against the philosophy i "personally" have in mind. Which is using a couple of my favorite amps out of the box; have a few rows ( if you understand what i mean) of clean...
