    Reference Tracks for Mixing and Mastering

    I was taught to find 2-3 tracks in the same genre/feel of the tune you are working on...so the playlist keeps growing. Like the suggestions here - esp having a choice between ref tracks with low/mid/high sections to help your ears compare with your own work.

    I am on day two with these - getting my ears adjusted - and man, just perfect for a spare bedroom studio. I have been mixing using my Alto TS212 PA speakers for years! Nice to know my past work isn't awful...but really digging the flexibility of this VSX system.

    Favorite plugins for post production and how do you use them ?

    I am really impressed by the default plugins in Logic. I do have some of the UA and fabfilter stuff but try to keep it simple as I learn. There’s always buzz and excitement hyped up with different releases and I will try out demos when possible. It’s fun but a never ending path down option...

    It’s basically needing to play through your presets mono ahead of time and see if anything sound off! If you don’t hear anything wrong all good. In my experience it has been specific panning or delay effects that have caused issues - or the expander block just making things thin etc.

    Cruise ship gig? Out at sea awhile/ I would go with 2 fm3s. Ones a backup. Small portable and keep it simple. Most bands I’ve seen on ships keep it real easy and basic when it comes to tones. Makes sense.
