    I would instantly order an ax4. If the processing needs to be cut down then for the smaller unit then restrict some of the options eg one block of each effect, 4 presets or scenes and a scroll knobs to change banks etc for the added portability it would be worth it imo.

    I use an Amplifire 3 on a small board as a backup and for gigs when I need to take a tiny board - not as flexible as the ax8 but sounds pretty good. The drawback to have all your sounds in one unit is the need for a comprehensive backup regardless of how solid the ax is.

    When I had an fx8 I found adjusting the filters on the drive pedals really helped and continue to tweak them on the ax8 - go for it and if you found sounds you like better then great, you can easily revert to the stock settings.

    I've added some commercial cabs to my amplifire but apart from the acoustic IR's I haven't felt the need to with the AX8 - definitely plenty of good ones. But at some point I suspect I'll start adding them when I've fully tested all the factory supplied models.

    I just addd a friedman asm-12. Sounds pretty good but has a bit more bass (presumably to give a 4x12 kick) it feels like a bigger speaker and with a bit of dialling in over the next few gigs I think it will work nicely.
