    Change Algo and keep settings

Yeah alot of it is the old school converters/analog section that gives a cool tone. The lexicon concert wave algorithm is kick ass. I permanently have an h3000 sitting on my rack case above my axe FX. I have used so many different racks in the axe FX and only one did not sound good. H3000...

Axe-Fx 2 vs Helix LT (Dilemma Over)

I should add I have heard people make decent recordings and sounds with the helix, however for me the feel and sound I get with the Fractal is night and day . I personally can't dial in good sounds with the helix or enjoy the feel of using it

Axe-Fx 2 vs Helix LT (Dilemma Over)

I agree I tried native and helix stomp and they were both unimpressive, not enough programmability. Very artificial sounding to my ears. Fractal is 10/10 for me while the helix stuff is like 5-7 at the very best. Didn't try any aftermarket IRs but honestly not sure it would bring it to an 8.

    Axe-Fx II XL+ Noise Problems

Also worth noting that the THD is usually higher out of headphone outputs in most devices, never measured or looked at the fractal specs for THD on the phones or regular outs but I would guess with 1khz sine wave it could get as low as .002% on the main outs. I have an AP at work and can see the...

    Axe-Fx II XL+ Noise Problems

Hayden, I would suggest asking whoever looked at if they checked the THD% on all the outputs and whether it is in spec. (And tested with hot and weaker signal) AudioPrecision makes fantastic test equipment that really will settle any doubt of noise coming from the unit. If the THD% was in spec...

    RIP XL+...?

If it is not used outside (left overnight outside in a cold environment, and then heats up when used after being cold) the unit will sweat inside and corrosion can eventually occur on the circuit board if this happens many times. Also dusting the unit out with compressed air or a specialized...

What things can an AFX do that a real amp cant?

Honestly the only pedals I find better than the axe is true fuzz pedals because of the volume knob dynamic. Modulation, delay, and reverb is not beatable by pedals. Some strymon stuff is good but if you know the axe you can do the same thing and more. The only FX I use with the axe FX is my...

What things can an AFX do that a real amp cant?

Different routing with the FX loop and placing stuff in between amp and cab blocks. Series/parallel hybrid routing. The biggest thing for me is the expression pedal control. Being able to press one button and change delay feedback percentage, chorus rate/depth, trigger an lfo on a mix parameter...

    Understanding Clocking

Yeah the noise only occurs when there is no master clock and both devices are at 48khz. Doesn't happen when one is a master clock source. When the axe is the master the tone is different from when it is slaved. Subtle but still noticeable.
  19. AndrewKirkland

    Understanding Clocking

Just thought I post results of my clocking. So with the axe as the master everything was more present and very dynamic sounding/very alive. With my interface(metric Halo) as the master clock the sound was very smooth and detailed, but maybe a little too much smoothing so the dynamics we're not...

    Understanding Clocking

I just want to ask for clarification of a few things regarding clocking. It seems I am forced to use the internal clock on the axe FX with an AES connection. Use regular wah still or axe fx's? Why?

I have a vox wah and plug it in backwards to do the Gilmour echoes seagull/elephant noises lol. But I usually use the fractal wah with my Moog expression controller. Not a big wah guy, but sometimes the real wah is nice depending on the situation.

Curious how to make this sound with the axe fx 2. It was done with the preset technochords on the lexicon mpx g2 unit. Says it randomly generates tones into a delay and reverb with a sweep filter that has a controllable range/scale. I am certain this involves using the filter, megatap delays...

Are there more delay lines hidden in the magic box?

I still have a pcm70 that I love for ambient verbs. I don't like the axe for ambient verbs, but the axe is great for spring reverb and tight articulate soloing reverb. I mainly like using two multi delays and turning the level of the delay down and feeding it into another delay for ambient (fake...
  36. AndrewKirkland

Are there more delay lines hidden in the magic box?

You're never gonna get an exact copy of the 6 delay lines in the pcm80/81 because they all have separate feedback, and delay times. You can also apply different modulation to the different parts of those separate delay lines. Best case is using two delay blocks so you get 2/6 lines. Then try...

How to emulate Twist mode from Boss giga delay and Boss space echo pedals?

I did make some pretty whacky sounds that would be fun to mess with, but I want to be able to get that twist sound. I am thinking of just finding a nice recording of the twist sound and putting that into a sampler. Then using it pitch shifted and modulated in a recordings from time to time.
  38. AndrewKirkland

How to emulate Twist mode from Boss giga delay and Boss space echo pedals?

Yes I used the tape delay type, it is just very difficult to get the slope/scale for the delay time increase and feedback ramping slope/scale dialed in to be close to this twist mode.
  39. AndrewKirkland

How to emulate Twist mode from Boss giga delay and Boss space echo pedals?

I am having a tough time emulating the twist mode from Boss. This twist mode is essentially the delay time speeding up and the feedback also ramping up at the same time. When the footswitch is released the delay slows down again and fades out. This is a very sci-fi,space ship, motorcycle like...

    Dimension Mode Clarification

I went with high as I think the Boost brings the effect out more, and the eq smooths things out. After comparing the sound of off, low, med, high. That is cool, I would have to agree that for 98% of the updates I would not have to tweak anything at all. This update was different though. Is it possible to use xlr and 1/4 FX loop connections simultaneously?

I am definitely going to try that and compare side by side! Thanks for the tip. Is the size parameter in meters or feet with fractal? The pcm 70 hall parameter I believe is 38 meters for size. Yeah I definitely find that grainy/tinny sound to be good in just a chaotic shoegaze/noise bath...
