    Tone Tweaking for Different Guitars

I use the FM3 for both home and live playing. I've got roughly 50 songs in my FM3 "playlist." I only bring one guitar to any gig but I have four that I would consider my main guitars. Unfortunately, the woods and overall construction of the four guitars are completely different from one to...

For those of you who are running straight from your AX8 to FOH, how do you dial in your tone at home and rehearsal in preparation for a show? Fx8 Road Cases?

Yes that's the 24x11 version. I think the whole board is more like 25x13, but there's roughly 24x11" of usable surface. And, yes, the board can stay in the bottom of the case. I don't do it because I'm using the Dunlop mini expression pedals and my heel hits the edge of the case if I don't keep...

This is what I have and it's great for the FX8. It's the Gator G-Tour. To accommodate the height of the FX8, I simply removed the four foam inserts. Everything fits perfectly.

    Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170

I currently run my FX8 through a Quilter Tone Block 201 and into a Mesa 1x12 cab. I was just wondering if any other Quilter users have had the opportunity to try one of the new Seymour Duncan Powerstage amps and how you thought it compared to the Quilter with regards to the sound of your FX8.

This is probably overly obvious, but make sure you don't have a gate in the signal path. I couldn't figure out why my intro to Dazed and Confused sounded like shit until I realized I had inadvertently placed a noise gate block in the preset.

    Amp Blocks

Hey guys... I've had an FX8 for about a year and a half I think. Have been thinking about switching to an AX8. Had a question: In one PRESET can you have the same amp configured in different ways (for say rhythm and lead) or once you've chosen your amp and EQ settings for a particular PRESET...

Looks like FX8 is on sale for $999 now???

Maybe they're looking to have the AX8 capable of everything the FX8 is and then simply going with one product. Unless they're looking to get a much larger clientele by offering a no modeling device at a significant cost savings. Both would make perfect sense to me.

Default output level of drive blocks seems too high...

No...a global volume pedal. You don't have to use up one of the eight blocks if you do it this way. I have it set up at the end of the chain, so I can change the overall volume of my presets without any effect on the amount of gain coming from my drive blocks. It's like having an on board...

    Looper Location

I couldn't agree more. The reason I bought the FX8 was so I could bid farewell to all of my pedals. Sucks having to lug one around now. Seems with all of the available CPU, being able to store at least one loop wouldn't be too much to accomplish.

I love my FX8. But I've always found the manual sorely lacking. I'm assuming that this is due to the fact that a unit...

    Controlling feedback/unwanted noise

I am using the FX8 drive blocks to get all of my OD and distortion tones through a clean amp and am getting some annoying feedback at my desired volume. I tend to go with the RAT. I can't seem to get ANY good tones?

Maybe I'm wrong here (I'm an FX8 user). But I thought that a lot of the factory presets relied on running the unit through an effects loop to sound good. If you're going straight through the front of the amp, maybe that's part of the problem.

What power amp do you use?

I cannot say enough great things about the Quilter Micro Head 101 and Tone Block 201. Very tube like in their sound and responsiveness. Coupled with a Mesa 1x12, I've got everything I want tone-wise and I managed to shave about 50 pounds off my rig by ditching the Twin Reverb.

    No Turning Back Now!

I have no ties to Barefoot Buttons, but they really make for much more comfortable and efficient switching. Since the button now has a much larger surface area, you can more easily engage them. There's no modifications needed. They slip right over the existing foot switch.

    No Turning Back Now!

I've had my FX8 for just about a year. Here it is with all the latest extras, mounted securely to the board: The reason I say "no turning back now" is that I just sold a cabinet full of 90 different pedals to Chicago Music Exchange last weekend. So it looks like I'm pretty much fully...
