Emulating the Klon, uhh ... Soul Food

I had a micro boost with my old rig and really loved it. I use it a lot in the AXE as well and it is pretty spot on if memory serves, perhaps a little better even as you have much more control over EQ etc.

    A "Rush" Patch Thread

Oh man, if anyone can nail the Spirit of Radio sound I would be amazed. Never heard one come close. If I remember seems he had a layered track with gtr plugged direct into mixing console and pushed to clip in addition to the other tracks. I'm agreement with you guys, I dont think there was a...

    Dc-30 IR

I agree. I did a cab mix with OH gold and it really makes the DC 30 sound fantastic. Can't beat the Gold in a 2X12 IMHO.
  25. FTR-greg

    Milco - Spanky Distortion Tone!

Cab Block tone trick (to fix any tone issue you've ever had)

Interesting indeed. I tend to use the room parameters as it does sound more natural to me even when it is not really heard as a reverb affect. I'll have to dial a little more in and find the sweet spot, thanks for the setting recommendations. I learned this from time spent in actual studios...

    Axe Fx Control options

I used an ART X-15 for a while that I had collecting dust in the closet. It works great but I just cant get around the "soft" touch buttons. Love having the 2 built in variable pedals and the tuner button but just too inconsistent with the buttons. I seemed to always be missing changes from...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.00 Beta

I totally agree. The outer most settings on tone knob was not very usable but the center 3, oh yea. I would add the DC-30 back into my arsenal if that were the case. Its pretty good on the existing but I do miss the other channel.
  31. FTR-greg

Why no secret sauce in the back?

good to know. I'll try using cable in the front method and see if there is a difference. I use fuzz pedal a lot for my lead tones and know that it can make a big difference in sound if they are not first in line for an analog set up. I'll report back my findings. thanks guys for continuing...

Why no secret sauce in the back?

LOL. good point Yek! I HAD to read this one for obvious reasons. That being said, it does bring up an interesting point. I am currently using a Line6 G-50 wireless to feed my AXE 2 black box. Does anyone know if front or back inputs make a difference with this particular wireless system?
  33. FTR-greg

    Trying to get on board...

A lot depends on how you plan on using your gear. A lot of players using the Fractal play live and prefer direct to FOH while others prefer FRFR and/or FOH feed for live while others prefer using guitar cab's with a power amp. If you plan on using it to record or just for home use you might...

    Stock cabs ...

I use 3rd party too but love a LOT of the stock cabs. Sometimes the stock cabs just sit in the right spot. Honestly if there were no 3rd party IR's I'd still be very, very happy with my AXE II

Taking it to the next level...

I've never used Reaper, Logic Pro for me but, try recording both ways. Depends on the sound your trying to achieve. There are times when I want just a nice wide tone but want it to sound a little more locked in timing wise and I'll record both at same time. Other times I like the variation...

Delays and reverb .... Parallel or series ?

parallel mostly. More like what you get when you send dry signal to mixing board then use sends to FX buss. Not sure if it matters but sounds less cluttered to my ears.

Trying to get a tone similar to a song

I do the same thing, research with video, articles etc... Its all part...

    FOH Soundman tone input...opinions needed

Great question and all good advice from everyone. Dont forget about your cab block settings too. Proximity is super important in my tone shaping when using NULL or mic's there. I love the Brit45 but notice that a little EQ change can go a long way on that amp. It seems a little more...

    API 3124+ Preamp Matched!

I finally had a chance to try it.....your so right. there is something indescribable that happens. Its EQ and warmth and something. It reminds me of adding a UA L3 on the insert for guitars and bass which I almost always do even if its just for the taste with very little compression. It just...

World's simplest/reliable MFC for Axe-Fx other than FAS MFC

I use Decibel Eleven Switch Dr. It is a bit of a pain to program too but it is small, very tough (all metal) and has other features that can be nice to have as well. One note though, if you are using an expression pedal you will want to plug it directly into AXE-FX rather than the Decibel...

thanks guys! These are boutique to me.
  78. FTR-greg

For those playing out, who is using a minimal number of presets?

1 preset per song usually for a live set. I have a very small pedal controller (4 button) and 1 expression pedal so I do the same as some of the other guys, use 1 button to enable/disable multiple blocks at same time. If I really spent the time I would probably realize that a lot of my presets...

FAS + UAD Ocean Way Studio Plugin

Ocean Way is very, very good but it does take some time to get it "right". I use it in a very subtle way but somehow it makes magic in the overall mix. That being said, FAS competes with just about anything else out there to my ears. The UAD compressors are tops to me so those I can never do...

    A "Rush" Patch Thread

Just a quick thought on the early rush (permanent waves era). I've been a big fan for years as well. I know a lot of Alex's tone in the studio was derived from mic'ed amps but I believe he also ran a direct guitar signal to the board and pushed it to distort on the console. Maybe it would be...

    Silvertone tube amp cabs

LOL. glad someone else gets it. :-) particle board cabs could hardly stay together but for some reason they sounded "great" in their own way. Perhaps it is just my vague memory of what I thought was great at the time. There were also the Kay and Airline amps/guitars that were similar...

    Bass consistency

I have found too that placing a fast compressor, like 1176, on the insert and then add another slower compressor, like maybe a 3A, on the buss can catch any lingering spikes. Just "kiss" the signal on the slower compressor. This helps a lot. EQ is essential prior to the compression though in...

    Question for Cliff about headphones

You could also build a preset template with any of the blocks you want and import that for new preset builds. All you have to do then is replace the amp/cab blocks with the ones you want for that preset and save. tweak later if you want. Works for me in building new presets. So many ways to...
