X/Y Amps on Scenes Vs Presets for Distortion to Clean

For awhile now I Have been using just different prests for my distortion and clean tones. Is there a benefit over different presets to us X/Y switching between two amp models?

Cab Sims Sound Harsh

I have used only the stock guitar cabs , but most of the time when I use them they sound very harsh and thin. Anyone have any tips to clean them up, because I want to start using my axe direct for gigs, but hesitant I won't get it to sound good out of the PA with Cab Sims.

So im debating on getting this pedal because even though the axe can replicate alot. I don't see how you can replicate everything it can do especially put a delay with its own fx loops that you can pair with any effect making the delay run through another effect that effects each repeat
