Can anyone help me get this tone?

Honestly, I think Andy is one of those, "tone is in the fingers", kind of players. I bet he could play through a $99 Roland Cube and it would sound awesome. Also, my sense is that his delay setup is a really key part to his sound.

That was really interesting. It's hard to say what that really tells you, though. I get the, "keep everything the same except for the version", approach as intuitively the fairest, but it might say more if things were tweaked to get the best possible sound for each firmware version. So then...

Amp in a Room vs Studio Recorded Tones

I think that the problem with far-field IR's is that they produce a far-field sound at your FRFR cone - which, of course, is some distance away from your ears. So if the idea is to capture what your ears would hear if you were listening to a real cab in the room, then you'd need to have that...

Slightly off topic, but I have found that the output compression in the amp block can seriously beef up the sound of a clean amp. In that context, I find the Fender Concert is super versatile because is sounds great with a 4x10 IR and with a 2x12 IR. The 4x10 IR's tend to give it a more authentic vintage sound, while the 2x12 is fuller and a little bit more utilitarian. But neither one sounds "wrong".
