Your favourite dual amp combo?

I can do a whole gig with a Plexi-AC30 combo and never have to switch presets. I set up a pedal where I can adjust the mix of the amps - heel down is all AC30 and toe down is all Plexi. That combo with a few effects can cover a whole night.

So this is my dream amp sound, how can i get it on AXE

Try the ODS models. They are the Dumble amps. The Ford version is killer and does the clean to mean thing pretty well. Experiment with some Drive blocks for some clean boost and bump in gain.

I still gig with my Ax8 that I bought 9 years ago. It still sounds great and is a great small gig solution. My AxIII is ridiculous and if I never bought another piece of gear, I could gig with that beast for the rest of my days.

I hear you. I myself play in a cover band too. I get trying to achieve the authentic tone - and I do try :). But, I know guys who play in cover bands where I live that do the whole gig with a 1x12 combo amp and 3 pedals. They nail every tone pretty well.

So many of the greatest guitarists have/had one signature tone. To find a tone that you can play anything with and one that allows you to express yourself is a blessing. Still looking for mine. Nice to have so many options and unlimited ability to tweak.

Exactly. Totally agree with minimizing the adjustments only as needed. Most amps sound good out of the box in Cygnus. I have mostly only had to make adjustments to BMT to make the tone cut through the mix better or to roll off some spikey high end freqs.

In FW16, what are the FAS amp presets called?

In Axe Edit go to any preset and then in the Amp block go to bottom left area in the field where it shows the kind of amp, then click there, the entire list of available amps will come up and you search for the FAS amps.

Even worse. My Mesa Mk IV sounded amazing at home but in the venues we play with varying power supplies and other factors (ie beer lights, etc), the tone varied so much it became hard to manage. That’s the whole reason I tried the fractal Ax II years ago and then played Ax8 for a few years...

Yes they are. IMO, the Mk IV has one of the best clean tones I ever heard. I loved the mid channel slightly dirty and could do a whole gig living on that channel. But, I could never use that amp at home. Just too friggin loud

Something's amiss and seems to be devolving

Had the same thing happen. Tried everything. Then I realized my cable to the guitar was not all the way pressed into the cable jack. It was like 1/32" from being plugged in and it had same effect.

Metheny-ish tones from Joni era?

In an interview, Metheny famously said he uses very thin picks. He goes through an entire bag of hundreds of thin picks to find the ones he likes. He uses the shoulder of the pick and picks very lightly.

Agreed. I tried the Matrix GT1000 FX solid state power amp with a Matrix 2x12 cab and it sounded great. You could use most of the amps and speakers but it definitely colored the sound.

If you don’t use the Ax Fx III with a FRFR monitor, you’re probably better off just getting a killer tube amp. If you’re using a tube power amp and Mesa speakers, you’re really defeating the purpose of having hundreds of amp models and thousands of speaker simulations. You won’t be able to...
