    "Real amps" vs Modelers

SIDE NOTE: There's a recording below if you don't want to read anymore about this. I just listened to John Petrucci speak for about 40 seconds, essentially "the biggest challenge for modellers is not the gain, it's how the amp physically moves air through a cab." I agree. I have been busting...

Anyone using Floyd Rose titanium insert blocks?

That's a big thing I noticed with my entry-level Ibanez Jem. The metal is soft, it's been about 15 years since I've purchased an electric and I don't remember the metal feeling this cheap. I've already stripped the truss-rod, I have to be cautious when tightening the nut screws, I bought a...

    Tonewood doesn’t matter

This is just ... too easy. Greg Koch, a master Telecaster player ( not my style, but I love his observations and playing ), tries 4 different Telecasters. My ear went, "the Select Wildwood "10" 1951 Nocaster Heavy Relic" is what I'd buy. and in the comments "@waawaaweewaa2045 6 years ago The...

    Tonewood doesn’t matter

15 yrs ago, myself and a superb musician went to a music store to help a friend buy her first serious rock guitar. He grabbed different guitars to hand to me, to hand to her, as she played. We went through about 10 and somewhere in those 10 myself and my friend said "that one !!". Point is...

Question about Shreddy Death Metal tone "fizziness"?

I've spent 2 years trying to get IR's to sound right, can't do it, yesterday I spent four hours trying to get one little passage to sound right, I gave up. The EQs in the Axe 3 are really powerful, the first take can be imitated pretty closely ( I think ) by taking the patch and notching up somewhere around the 500 to 1k region and reducing around 100.

I used two Cabs, one cab going into another, this gives the tone 'girth', I used to do this when I used Amp Sims, in other words, anything modelling based I found I'd have to follow one cabinet with another to gain girth, and reduce the brittleness. The 3rd party IRs were an ML-MS-OS-Rugged...

What strikes me is almost an absence of attack, so the percussiveness I love in attack doesn't seem to be there. Glad you enjoyed it, love the enthusiasm in your response! haha. Amp block tweaks for more punch, openness, rawness, ripping attack, less compression?

I'm trying for a few of the same qualities, mostly it's openness and less compression. Try these settings. On some amps the master volume can sound like a towel thrown over the speaker, maybe for leads that's good but for open rhythm I like 4 to 6. The cut is on, this clears things up to. Also...

So would you have to have a separate volume pot for each pickup to attach a trimpot to? I have a humbucker, single coil, humbucker configuration with one volume pot for all 3 pickups, if I put a trimpot on the one volume and tune the bridge pickup I'm guessing the other two pickups will be...

    Conference Championships Gift Of Tone

I think ownhammer puts their OH at the beginning of an IR. The overhead mic, I believe is signified by OH at the end of the IR. I'm not near my fractal right now so I'll have to check that out. But what I think is an overhead mic is clearly a big difference in sound from the other impulse responses.
