Are we done? - updates to our Axe-Fx II (Mark II) ?

Well, Cliff did post this on Sep 29th and then has not said anything else about it since then: "FWIW, I'll be porting some of the Axe-Fx III 9.xx changes this week. I woke up yesterday and figured out a way to use a single modeling data file for all products going forward so we won't have to...

How are they getting THAT sound ??

Also forgot to mention, obviously want to disable cab modeling and remove cab from your signal chain or create a different scene and bypass it in that scene if you want to play with ss pwr amp and guitar cab. Also have to add the FXLOOP block to send your signal to OUT2 to your ss pwr amp. At...

How are they getting THAT sound ??

If you are like me, you will never be satisfied with playing guitar through the Axe and studio monitors or FRFR. It will never sound as fulfilling as it does through a neutral solid state power amp (Matrix or similar) and reg guitar cab, 2x12 or 4x12. I tried a bunch of different FRFR...

Ares FW update. Honestly can't tell any actual difference.

Hah hah, I feel the same way. I barely hear any difference between different firmware versions or with real OD pedals and amps. IMHO, I think speakers/cabinet defines guitar tone much more than the amps themselves. Also the room that those speakers/cabinet are in. I've never done it but I'd...

Amp in a Room vs Studio Recorded Tones

App12, I understand where you are coming from. I tried 3 different FRFR solutions, CLR, Xitone(Very impressive build quality and customer service!) and Yamaha DXR12. None of them sounded "right" to me but the Xitone was closest since it had a switch where you could turn off the high freq...

    AxeFX III: What's Missing?

Who said anything about HAVING to use wireless capability if it had it? We're talking about an additional option for those that would like to use it. If you didn't want to use it, then there would (optimally) be an option to turn off wifi/bluetooth. Everyone is happy!

    AxeFX III: What's Missing?

I commented about the lack of wireless editing capability (wifi or bluetooth) in the original AFX3 'Presenting...' thread along with several others and one thing I have noticed is that Cliff has not commented on any of the complaints regarding it. Maybe I am just reading into things but it...

    Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

That is a good question. I asked something similar to this earlier as to why the AFX III does not have a remote wifi or bluetooth editing option. Cliff seems to be answering questions left and right on many other things but all I've heard is crickets on this one....

    Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

I understand that but they went back to the drawing board to design the Axe III and it could have been added to the design at that time. Unless they just didn't want to have to deal with software development on Android and IOS which is the OS's we would have wanted Axe-Edit on to do mobile editing.

    Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

It looks like a great unit and worthy of the upgrade but one thing I just cant understand that was left out is wireless editing capability? With bluetooth and even wifi chips being so cheap now, I don't get why this capability was left out.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.04 Firmware Release

Hah hah, I'm the opposite. I have played EMG pickups ever since I put them in my second guitar back in 1991. I have tried to use passives over the years but found that they have this metallic 'clanky' sound to them when palm-muting that I just can't get used to, almost like the sound keeps...

Vai Rig Rundown from Vai Academy

Yeah, was being majorly sarcastic! It's more just for...

Vai Rig Rundown from Vai Academy

All of this is pretty awesome to me but I'm just waiting for the 'tonewood' purists to show up and proclaim that this guitar must sound like crap since so much of the 'tonewood' was cut out to make room for the electronics!

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.03 Firmware Release

All I play is metal and high-gain and I haven't noticed any problems with 9.0+ and tightness. Then again, I can barely tell the difference between different firmware versions most of the time. JCM-800 is still my go to amp but I mostly play 80's thrash stuff. I do dig the Mesa Mark IV, Engl...

How to cut out the mud on palm mutes

I think most folks will probably tell you the same thing, cut bass going into the amp, add it afterwards with either the GEQ inside the amp block or a PEQ after the amp block. Also use the lowcut in the cab block. I find for my tastes(metal), I pretty much have the bass tone control on all of...

    KPX110PM

Hmm idk about that one. Only 50 watts and it's solid state? I would think you are not going to have very much clean power/volume there before you start getting some ugly distortion. Definitely a good price but if it doesn't sound good at moderate to high volume, it won't be worth the money.

New Fortin power amp for modelers

I posted this in a reply in a different thread but figured I would repost it here in case some of you missed it. Mike Fortin of Fortin Amps has made a new tube power amp for Ola Englund to use with his AX8 on tour. Apparently it is based on the Satan/Natas's power section and is 7kg/15lb so...

Has anyone seen the new Fortin designed tube power amp made for Ola Englund? Here is a link to a demo of the amp: Apparently it is based on the Satan/Natas's power section and is 7kg/15lb so not exactly light but it sounds pretty good in the demo. He is using it on his current tour along...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Firmware Release

They were used by Entombed, Dismember and a million other Swedish death metal bands to get that buzzsaw guitar sound they had back in the day. The funny thing is when you isolate that tone by itself, it sounds pretty terrible but in a mix with bass and drums, it sounds heavy as Satan himself...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Firmware Release

Yeah, in my original post I said I had gotten it to sound decent with a lot of advanced tweaks plus Drive in front and PEQ after but my point was, why go through all that when you can get (IMO) a better tone from other amps without all the fuss? Speaking for myself only, I just don't see the...

Mesa's advertising and description of those amps doesn't...

Presence Shift in USA Lead models

I asked Cliff if the 'Modern' mode on the 2:90 was the 'Voicing' switch he was talking about but didn't get a response. I am assuming that is what he is referring to since the Deep mode just adds extra bass and the 1/2 drive is self explanatory. Edit: I just checked the manual for the 2:90...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Firmware Release

Do you have some suggestions as to how to get a tight distortion sound out of the Recto amps? I see people constantly talking about how great they are but I have yet to be able to get a tight tone out of them without a drive in front and tons of advanced tweaks in the amp model, plus a PEQ...

Can Someone Give Me a LowDown of all their Favorite High Gain Models Added in the Last year?

Hah, I'm the opposite, never been able to get a decent sound from any of the Recto's but then again I prefer tight sounding distortion and the Recto's seem to be the opposite of that, flubby and loose. The Angle Severe is super easy to dial in a tight crushing high gain tone.

Metallica to perform with Lady Gaga @ Grammys

I really hate it when people use the old "albums sold=talent" argument. Most people in the world have no real appreciation for talent/technical ability when it comes to music. Also, while the new Metallica is fairly 'decent' IMO, the new Overkill and Kreator albums shit all over it.

    Triaxis EQ Algorithm??

I did this when I first got the AFX and it no-doubt sounded great. My general thoughts on Axe Edit and the Fractal Approach.

Whether you like it or you don't, the interface was designed a certain way from the get go. Well if your a software designer, you should know that it isn't an easy task and would require quite a bit of man hours and money to accomplish. The question is whether Fractal considers the project worth investing in. How many more buyers could they possibly get vs the cost to re-design the...

I'm not knowledgeable about copyright laws but I'm pretty sure if Cliff started naming the amps the same as their real counterparts and making controls that look like the real amps, he would have many lawsuits getting filed against his company. Hey, when it comes down to it, it's what you like to hear and that's all that matters. Just understand that what you are hearing isn't "authentic" when it comes to certain tones.
