I haven't gigged in a number of years so this is just for recording. I'm not even doing much with a live drummer at the moment so it's mostly me just having a good time. :) If I played out again I would not want this type of setup - I would program everything in patches and just take the MFC...

Great question! Actually getting everything tightened was the biggest challenge. The drum riser is made from 2x6s so I just used large screws to mount the flange to the front of the riser. However, every time I hooked up the vertical pipe as you said it made a lever and wanted to tilt. What I...

I love digital!

Running my Axe FX into my UAD Apollo via SPDIF and recording via Firewire. Cranked amp tones at bedroom volumes (or cranked through Atomics if desired), no warming up tubes, total recall-ability of the most complicated effects... Man, I love digital. :)

I too think the difference is subtle but an improvement - I can't articulate how yet but I like it better. All of my custom presets where changed to the Q4. Could this be because I moved the factory banks and use the first bank for custom presets? I do this so the MFC can see them...

While I'm interested in using the amp tone knobs, I'm actually much more interested in using them for effects like phaser speed, delay speed and feedback, etc. I find turning knobs like I did for pedals much better than using a mouse to scroll through values for a parameter.

It's the external unit that lets you control Axe parameters with real knobs: http://shop.fxunits.com/ I love to tweak knobs particularly for delay and other effects - and while Axe Edit kicks ass, using a mouse is just not the same thing. I cannot wait to get this! :)

I had a mid-80s JC120 I sold just a few months ago since I wasn't giving it any love once I got my Axe. THEY ARE LOUD. As in rip your face off loud. And no joke about the distortion being beyond awful... :)

Anyone using the Axe-Fx with an Apollo Interface?

I use spdif from my Axe through an Apollo silver. Works perfectly! I don't reamp though... Since a pie amp was used to record the IRs I'm not sure it makes sense to use a unison pre which changes the impedance of the analog input. ..

Buffers in front of the Input?

I use an old VHT Valvulator buffer in front of the Axe. I compared with and without it, and I liked what it sounded like with it. I always loved what it did in front of my amps, so I was kind of happy it's still providing value. :) I replaced the 12AX7 with a 12AT7 to keep it as clean as possible...

Thanks guys. retro_dad is correct, I want to make sure that using mono out for a CLR does't mean I have to use mono out for the digital connections. I'll play around in the menus a bit more, and perhaps just buy two CLRs...

Mono/Stereo question related to monitors

Hi all, I primarily use my Axe FX II via SPDIF/AES in stereo. I am looking to buy an Atomic CLR, but probably only one at first. Is it possible to output a mono signal to the CRL while also producing a stereo signal digitally, or do they both have to be either mono or stereo together? thanks!

About clipping

Thought I'd post in case someone else runs into this... I ran into an issue where I was getting a subtle but unpleasant bit of distortion that sounded like clipping in the high-end. Took me a while to sort out, but I found that sometimes when I turn on my XL, it causes my sound card to switch...

Guitar Cab or FRFR?

Here's a weird idea... It would be cool if you could shoot an IR of your own cab, and have some way in the Axe to use the IR to neutralize your cabinet. That way, you could treat it like a FRFR speaker...

Thanks simeon! Wow, this thing blows me away! :) I now get the idea of using the FX loop to send a dry signal. I am actually considering selling my 2x12 cabinet and getting a powered Atomic Wedge. That would make some of the routing less complicated as output 1 and AES would be the same signal...

Thanks for the input guys. I just couldn't get this to work satisfactorily so I used AES to send the signal directly to the Mackie. This lets me use the Mackie ASIO drivers that work well and it lets me use the zero-latency feature of the Mackie. So, very happy camper with that! Played for a few...
