Front panel adjustment on the fly

For me it's not about being unhappy with my settings, it's about having fun with delay time once the feedback goes into oscillation, LFO speed, flanger feedback and other odd effects during my band's weird trippy noise sections. I have programmed the hell out of my Axe to get some amazing stuff...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

Tim from bare knuckle told me that one of the pots could e microphonic, although that doesn't quite explain the three guitars I tried in the local music store all doing the same thing. Unless anyone can shed some light on this I'm kicking the EMG's out. I don't need this going on.

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

No probs. I do that too. I reply to eleven year old threads as well haha! I'm going to try some different amp models. I have researched and some folk seem to think this happens when something is wrong with the amp. Maybe I have programmed it wrong. Sounds fine with my other guitars though, and...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I don't really want to repeat my original post but: The Floyd springs have latex tubing running through them. The pickups are mounted using the same tubing and packed firmly with the foam that EMGs use in the box to protect them while shipping. I would mute the strings using foam or whatever...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I don't think it is possible to open EMG pickups up, but I have a feeling that might have worked otherwise. The tone changes when I prod the pickups.

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I have used the foam that comes with EMG pickups and some latex tubing in place of springs. It's all very tight now. The neck is OK but the bridge still howls. I have a feeling it may be because I bought a black chrome one and mounted it with a metal ring. I'll try switching them and see what...

Sounds like a power issue, but like I said; I am no expert!
  10. lysergene

EMG 81 Distorts/clips on its own + low output.

Lowering pickups usually brings more of the guitar into the sound but I don't think you need to worry about that with EMGs. They have a weaker magnetic field than passives so it's best to get them close to the strings.... or as close as you can without losing your preferred sound.

EMG 81 Distorts/clips on its own + low output.

I'm using 13-54 tuned to A# standard. It sounds like you have a power issue or something. Is the guitar grounded? Actives don't need an earth..... EDIT: That guitar you have comes with EMG as standard so forget the earthing comment. See how it sounds with no battery? It sounds like you get...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I used to get that when using very high gain settings on my Boss GX 700 (the last box they did which has useable distortions), including low level playing. I tend to use less gain these days and then bump it up when needed for specific applications. I'm pretty sure this sound is the sound of...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I have reduced the gate output by 10dB on all of my patches so that hard strums tickle the compressor like they did with my passive guitar. I probably don't need it for the EMGs as their output is already very compressed (I just did a bypassed comparison into a DAW). I'll see what happens at...

  16. lysergene

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

It's not a signal to noise ratio problem; these are quiet when tracking and I'm not getting any hiss, buzz or RF noise (These EMGs are awesome. I just put my spare 81 in the neck and it sounds great) It's definitely the sound of the pickups vibrating inside the pickup cavity. When I prodded them...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

So I went to a local guitar shop and tried three guitars loaded with EMGs. A crappy part exchange thing they had, an Epiphone LP and a USA Jackson. They howled like mad when I turned up the gain and volume. They made the same noises when I scratched the pickups with a finger nail. They all...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

So faulty wiring can cause similar symptoms to microphonic issues? If so then fine, I'll buy new wiring. The reason I ask is that all three of these pups do it. The 85 is a slightly lower tone. My new black chrome 81 does it less than the plastic ones. I've seen a few posts about the solderless...

PRS SE Torero squealing doing my head in!

I have heard a few stories about fakes. I'm pretty sure these aren't though; they come as standard with the Torero and the logo on the 85 is slightly orange which is correct for the guitar I think. I also bought a new EMG from Amazon. Seems to be the same. I could send that back and keep trying...

Haha! I tried that man. Still does it with the gain right down. It should give me at least what I get from the Irongears.... This guitar feeds on a crunch setting with no strings on the guitar. To be fair, these patches were honed to the passive guitar. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the...

    Gate help please!

Indeed. There's a venue situated next to a train station in Hamburg. Playing guitar there is like playing an electric fence ha! As long as we know what's causing the buzzing we can either deal with it or live with it..... or fry on stage.
  26. lysergene

    Gate help please!

Noise gates are misunderstood. They aren't there to clean up a noisy signal, they are there to allow a signal through when it reaches a certain level (which is set by the THRESHOLD parameter) and that signal could be anything. They aren't intelligent enough to sort out buzzes from guitar...

A question about EMG pickups and red input lights....

A question about EMG pickups and red input lights....

I'm on 26% input gain for my EMG 81-85 loaded PRS Torero using a Klotz Funkmaster cable. The red lights flicker occasionally when I really whack an open chord hard, this is how I set it for all of my guitars. I only just bought the guitar second hand and I have just decided the pickups are...

    Weird sound when palm muting

It sounds as if you don't like the sound it's making regardless of realism.... Setting the Dynamic Depth to something other than 0 helped my sound. Try all of the parameters in the amp block, you should be able to sort it out man.

    Axe-Fx II Firmware 18.08 Released

I dialed in the same tone. Really nice! :) I did chance a couple of things to suit me and my guitar though, this may help if you want high gain chugs: Dynamic Depth - 7.17 Input Trim 2.811 I leveled out the Graphic EQ too, not a huge fan of scooped sounds.

"VALUE" knob set to output volume

"VALUE" knob set to output volume

Steady on ladies! I understand the issue here. I like to set my patch levels while rehearsing with my band rather than doing it at home and hoping it works. Try this: 1. Hit the LAYOUT button 2. Hit the PAGE > button four times 3. Hit the Nav > button eight times You now have control over...

Using the Axe II as a Vocal Processor. ?

Is Axe FX capable of processing two instruments independently from start to end of their signal chains? If not then your vocal unit should have a MIDI IN. I think the MFC has a MIDI out. Either way I would recommend a mic pre with a compressor to send into any rack device.:)

    Parameter Elimination

    Fractal Axe-Fx ll Cheaper Alternative

I used a Boss GX-700 for over ten years, recording and on the road. They have MUCH better overdrive and distortion sounds than any of the GT series, you can put the effects in any order you want and they will go for very cheap on eBay.

    TAPE DELAY BUG

It gets noisy quickly so be careful man. The problem occurs when I allow the feedback to run away then turn the motor speed up to the maximum setting for both delays. It seems to be when it gets very loud (within the delay block itself perhaps).

    TAPE DELAY BUG

It may be possible for volume to increase for higher feedback levels on the real machines, but not quite as much as this (surely there is only so much level you can fit on a tape?). STOCK FCB1010 Axe II XL Scene changes using UP and DOWN switches

How do you have your foot controller configured?

I think I may have to put up with the not-so-seamless patch changes. It's obviously designed for one patch per song. I'm required to change sounds quite dramatically a lot of the time - we have a 2 hour 40 minute live repertoire of psychedelic doom metal and I usually use over 50 patches on my...

How do you have your foot controller configured?

I've used the FCB for years now without any problems. It is just a MIDI controller after all and it is built like a tank. I'd like to be able to switch scenes using the UP DOWN switches and flick through programs 00 - 99 using the numeric pads. Some of these replies sound interesting though...
