Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

Biggest difference is a soft reset only resets the current channel while the Reset AMP feature resets all the channels at once. With a soft reset, the amp's tonestack settings are retained if you have your Tone Control Display set to Ideal. If it's set to Authentic, those do get reset. The...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

With a firmware update, the algorithms change, not the settings in people's presets. The parameters you see in the UI are just the ones that we are allowed to change. There's LOTS more going on behind the scenes in each model. When you install the new firmware, the model's algorithms are...

It will work, but may not sound the same since the underlying model has changed. The only way to get the exact same pre FW 25.0 sound back is to revert back to an earlier firmware. Refresh after new firmware is only for the editor and loads any new parameters and names that have changed. It...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

The defaults typically don't change all that much, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't. It all depends on what Cliff changes behind the scenes. For 99% of people out there a soft reset or using the Amp Reset feature in Axe Manage Presets is all you need. I personally prefer the soft...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

A hard reset does exactly that: resets all of the parameters back to defaults. There should never be any exceptions to a hard reset. That's the whole point. Even with the soft reset, keeping EQ settings behind won't always make sense. If you change between two drastically different amp...

More Mic Preamp Routing Questions With the Axe FX 3

Output 2 is a line level output. This level will likely be too high for the input of a mic preamp. Help with solving low gain issue

I would investigate why your guitar potentially has low output first. What specific pickups are in your guitar? From what I've seen, neither of the Cantrell Epiphone Les Paul models seem to come with Duncan pickups stock. Is the neck pickup any louder?

Help with solving low gain issue

True, but if he has to set it really high to get it to tickle the red, it indicates that the guitar has very low output. If the guitar Cooper is using in the video has high output (which I believe the JP guitars do have quite hot pickups) it would explain the difference in gain he's seeing...

61.4% is very high for modern humbuckers, so if it's not clipping the input, I suspect your guitar has very low output for some reason. For comparison, with my Les Paul with a Duncan JB in the bridge, I run my Input Sensitivity at 10% and can still get it to clip if I hit really hard. Do you...

Correct. You can copy individual blocks or channels between presets but depending on how much changes between your scenes it may just be easier to copy the whole preset over and get rid of the rest.

Loss of volume and tone was destroyed!

The pops can cause damage if they are loud enough. They are very short in duration though, so the risk is different than extended overpowering, which causes the voice coil to overheat. General rule of thumb for power amps is turn them on last and turn them off first to avoid such pops.
  26. mr_fender

Loss of volume and tone was destroyed!

The problem is knowing where in the amp's output range the "safe" range ends. Due to the logarithmic nature of audio volume, the wattage goes up way faster than the dB's. The difference between your cab's 60 watt rating and the amp's 325 watt rating amounts to only about 7 dB of power...

Loss of volume and tone was destroyed!

Nothing. Easier to just set the bypass modes accordingly and just use bypass. I would also add that unless you need to run Phaser and Flanger at the same time, there's no real benefit to routing them in parallel. Just put them in series and turn on as needed. Multiplexer is more useful when...

Can I Automate Wah/Whammy on EV1 Pedal in Logic Pro?

    Constant volume cross-fade

Yeah, raising the MID setting in the modifiers would also work. Mid to 80% would counteract the default Log 20 taper in the Volume block and give a fairly linear overall response. Using a Mixer block works as well since the row level controls in the Mixer block are linear instead of Log.

  82. mr_fender

    Routing magic!

Depends on what you are going for. Delay after gain will have much more clarity. Out front it tends to get smeared by the gain and is far more compressed, so it usually requires lower mix settings to keep from walking all over the dry signal. Same goes for reverb in front of the amp.

  84. mr_fender

Because USB is not always an option. Most DAWs don't support using more than one audio device at a time. Even with Macs you have to create an aggregate device, which can add additional latency. If the Fractal device is your primary interface, USB is clearly a more flexible option. If you...

Bug? Layout Link not working going from a per preset layout to setlist mode

The same thing happens if your PP# function is one of the Preset functions as well (Select, Select In Bank, Inc/Dec, etc.). It's changing presets before the Layout Link fires, so it's using the Layout Link settings in that PP# in the destination preset instead. @BryantP

  87. mr_fender

Bug? Layout Link not working going from a per preset layout to setlist mode

I think this might be a race condition. The Song Select in Set switch might be changing the current preset before the PP# layout link has a chance to perform the layout link. As a result the preset that's pulled up may not have the same layout link saved in it's PP# slot so it doesn't do...

Why do some IR's and DynaCab's seem to compress more than others?

  89. mr_fender

Why do some IR's and DynaCab's seem to compress more than others?

It changes the result, but not in the way you might be expecting. The clipping of the sampled signal is interpreted as additional higher frequency content due to the added harmonics. Those harmonics will be factored into all of the signal processed by the IR regardless of its input level...
  90. mr_fender

Why do some IR's and DynaCab's seem to compress more than others?

The time and frequency elements are different expressions of the same information. That's the basis behind a Fourier Transfer. There is no non-linear element to IRs, so it's impossible for them to clip or compress the signal directly.
  91. mr_fender

What is the point of SPDIF if it's just going to be converted to USB anyway?

Many DAWs (and Windows) don't support using more than one interface at a time. Fractal devices also don't have dedicated mic preamps or phantom power. If your studio is centered around a different interface for those features, you may not be able to use USB for audio from the Fractal unit...
