    Rig Rundown with Ken Andrews/Failure

Anyone else posted this yet? Pretty sweet: Rig Rundown: Failure's Ken Andrews | Premier Guitar

    Friedman JJ Cantrell

Yeah, I just put Gravity Storms in a super-cheap, maple-neck Squier Strat; definitely fattened it up and tamed the brightness. I'm actually really digging that guitar now.

Clark Kent's Zero Currency UltraRes IR Collection

I gotta say, as much as I've been digging all your guys' recent UR IR's (as well as the recent OH stuff), I just re-discovered the Zero Pound IR's, and they're awesome. The mids are phenomenal (for me, anyway)...excellent crunch, warmth, clarity, punch, etc, etc, etc. Thanks, guys!

50w Plexi Custom UltraRes Mix Vs Old HiRes Cab

I like the first one, and I think it's the UR.

    OH HGE Question

I just wrote this on another thread: "Just bought the Diezel (Chinese, 8-ohm) last night. Haven't gotten to try all the mics/mixes yet, but I'm really digging it so far. Based on my experience with some of the other OwnHammer IR's, I find the English V30's to actually be a little too...

    Opinion on High Gain Ownhammers

Just bought the Diezel (Chinese, 8-ohm) last night. Haven't gotten to try all the mics/mixes yet, but I'm really digging it so far. Based on my experience with some of the other OwnHammer IR's, I find the English V30's to actually be a little too warm/smooth/dark in the mids, but since I'm...

    Amp and Sound Dynamics

Just a couple of ideas: 1.) Try turning on cabinet modeling. (And experiment with turning power amp off.) Since the Line 6 cab was designed with modelers in mind, it may sound/feel better if you use it in conjunction with some decent IRs. 2.) If turning on cabinet modeling doesn't do the...

    Drive block weighing me down

You can also try a graphic EQ in front of the amp instead of the drive pedal. You get more control and a more transparent/organic/realistic boost, in my opinion. (Plus, it uses less CPU.)

    Wanted: Amps to Model

I have a Zinky Mofo. #52 of the original 100. Very underrated amplifier.

The band Failure using Axe-Fx II

I saw the show on Thursday, as well. The live mix was one of the best I've ever heard, and the guitar/bass tones were badass. Phenomenal band. (And extremely important/influential.) I knew there was a good chance they were using the Axe live, but I just couldn't tell from my vantage point...

    UltraRes vs NormalRes

I'm fairly certain #1 is UltraRes. It's bigger, more dynamic. (You can see the differences, too.) I do wonder, though, which one would actually sound better in a mix with bass, drums, vocals, etc? (I'm sure you could EQ the first one to sound like the second, but not necessarily the other way...

Getting a lot of fizz when turning the cab sim off and going to real cab

Another thing that just occurred to me (better late than never, as I'm sure some of you figured this out a while ago): When running the Axe through a "real" speaker cab at bedroom volume (or anything less than gig/jam volume), it's inevitable that it's going to sound a little weird/funky. In the...

Massive Poll: Which amps do you use?

As of right now: Boutique 1 and Bogfish Brown.

    Touch Sensitive Amps

I've actually been really surprised at the touch-sensitivity of the Brit 800. Obviously, the key is to run the master volume high (8.0-9.0) and keep the input drive relatively low (2.0-4.0). Keep the bass super low (engaging "cut" switch), crank the mids, treble and presence. (Bright switch...

Bogner Strato and brown poweramp modeling...

I'd be interested to hear the Fish with a VHT 2150 (or similar) power amp. (Pretty sure that was the combo used on early-90s albums by Megadeth, Slayer, etc.) Then again, it might not matter at all...the Brown channel model sounds TITS as it is. ;) Thanks, Cliff!!!

    Amp question....

I'm not sure that's *entirely* fair, LVC. I believe that the Supersonic is largely based on the Prosonic (correct me if I'm wrong), which was designed by Bruce Zinky. To be honest, I don't think I've ever played either amp, but I do own an original Zinky Mofo, which produces some of the best...
