The Ultimate Tips Compilation for LIVE direct to the board

I was lucky enough to have the Studio Engineer who mixed and mastered my bands album do an IR of my recorded album tone. We even re-recorded over a section of a song using the IR vs the Tube 6505+ and A/B'd it - the difference was negligible! It sounded so close that we were both blown away! So...

Less gain in fw15 compared to fw14???

Fw15.2 keeps these amps nice n tight in the bottom end while still getting into chaos territory with gain (IF that's where you want to be). If you're needing more gain adjust the input trim and then "gain" it up to taste. I think this Firmware has been the most impressive change since owning the...

    Axe-Fx II Firmware 15.00 Released

This little box of magic keeps getting better all the time. I was hesitant about updating since I dialled in my album tone so close with fw14. I did a backup n went for it. Man am I glad I did! I uploaded my few pre-sets including my tone match and fw15 seems to have added a whole mass of...

    Output 1 to FRFR... output 2 to mixer/board ??

I just set mine up like this too - exactly what I've been wanting/needing. Did a tone match of my Album tone straight from Reaper at the Recording studio we used, that straight to FOH using OUT1. FX loop before the tone match cab block with a PEQ using OUT2>Gt800Fx>Mesa Recto4x12. it's so...

Question for Cliff and the Fractal Team!

**UPDATE** So I've switched around my main settings and I'm completely blown away with how good my tone is! I have OUT1 going straight to the PA with the FAS 6505 and my Tonematch set up as my lead/metal channel. Sounds absolutely awesome! I also out the FX loop in before the Tonematch block...

Question for Cliff and the Fractal Team!

Hey guys, I have a quick question for you: I've just finished recording my bands first pro recordings, and we got some SICK guitar tones after some post eq etc. Anyway, today I was back hanging with the studio engineer and we did a tone match of my guitar tone to use live with the Axe Fx...

What changed in the EvH 5153 in FW14

I hear ya man! After I did the "update all presets" for fw14 I found that the FAS Modern II was sounding a bit different. I always plug my Matrix gt800fx back up whenever a new firmware is released as to not colour the tone. I tried out a bunch of the new high gain amps and they all sounded...

Anybody running Matrix -> Mesa 4x12?

A tube power amp will solve your issues. It has more of the classic "amp in room/tube punch and cut" that you're looking for. Although with fw14, the 5153 Red channel tweaked out cuts through big time. Try using some amps that you normally don't and see what you can dial in.

Anybody running Matrix -> Mesa 4x12?

are you using Cab sims? Turn those mothers off if you are using just the mesa 4x12.

AxeFXII and 5150II Power amp = Win!

Last night's gig was @ DV8 Underground. My band's name is Silence The Machine. We hit the studio on April 18th for a 5 song EP, then will be releasing it at the end of May/beginning of June. I'm HOPING that we can book the Pawn Shop as we haven't played there yet. But if that doesn't work it...

AxeFXII and 5150II Power amp = Win!

So last night my band had a gig (capacity about 150? people), and I used my Axe differently than last time. I was running my set up like this: Gibson Gothic II explorer with Emg 81 > Axe FX II > FX return of 5150II using only it's power amp > Mesa Dual Rec 4x12 Slant cab with V30's. I...

Real tube power amp + direct/FOH - routing?

I'm not using the 4 cable method. I just plugged it into the FX return of my 5150 II as per the manual. Basically the Axe now works as the 5150 II's pre-amp section. All of my patches work just as they did with the Matrix gt800fx. Basically no changes had to be done other than turning off Power...

Real tube power amp + direct/FOH - routing?

I've had a very similar experience. I was using my Axe2 with a matrix gt800fx pushing a mesa dual rec 4x12 with v30's. Sounded good - Really good. Just was missing a tiny bit of sparkle and punch (which only I was not hearing but resulted in endless tweaking). Now I use my axe2 into the fx...

    new or lightly used?

I got Axefx II off some 18 year old for $1500 and it was basically brand new (St. Albert, Alberta). I guess his parents bought it for him and then he stopped playing guitar? Lol his mom even drove him to my place so I could check it out! Classic Rich St Albert Kids .. Still had the F'n plastic...

    Let's eliminate the "difference"!

That ReV-G is SIIIIIICK!!! Lucky guy to have such a legendary amp! If you can tone match that bastard you should make a patch for Axechange. I'd love to have something like that in the arsenal!

Predecessor Album Teaser Video - Axe-FX II Crushing Metal Tones!

Fucking rad dude! band sounds great! Riffs are heavy and tight. You need to find a new drummer and just let that MOFO SING! He has an amazing metal voice! Seems like he's always on the edge of Singing/Screaming and going in-between both. It's a very hard thing to do and make sound good...

    Do You Hear a Difference

If you guys are so worried about that minor tonal difference then you should just use a tube power amp. Turn off the power amp sim, speaker sim, and bam! sounds like a tube amp when you crank it up! I've dumped my Matrix gt800fx for live/rehearsals (it's a wonderful neutral sounding quality...

    Do You Hear a Difference

I can definitely hear a difference between the two. To my ears, in the first audio clip the 1st riff sounds best. The second riff sounds VERY close to the first one though. the 1st sounds more crispy, more dynamic, less forgiving to the player. Which amp was which? was the Axe first or 2nd...

    Live, rehersal, practice rig

I haven't gigged my AxeII yet, but our next show is coming up on the 3rd of January (Headlining Woo!). IMO Labelling everything while it's set is the best way to go. Use Coloured tape, stickers, written labels etc. to tell you what each cable is and where to connect it (I use written labels...

Is there any point in buying a traditional amp after owning a II.

Nothing wrong with having the Tubes and an Axe. My main gigging tone is based off of my 5150ii. I keep the 5150ii as a back up - just in case type of thing. I also have a 1983 vertical input Marshall JCM800 2204. Thing is an absolute beast and will never be sold. Same with my 1967 Traynor YVM-1...

    FW11 Dual Recto - Metulz

FW11 IIC+ vs Mark V-IIC+ - Not getting good results (Solved)

I think the main difference when doing these comparisons is the eq/settings. I dialled my Axe Fx II in with my ears, not my eyes. I got the sounds almost exactly the same as my live rig (5150ii through a mesa recto 4x12) - then with the added eq/dynamic controls I was able to dial in an amazing...

After going from 11b to 11 some presets sound loud and have clipping: normal?

I actually found the opposite.. The levels with 11b were all over the map, whereas with Firmware 11.0 all the levels are pretty much bang on consistent! I have cab modelling off though as I use a mesa recto 4x12. Maybe that's where you're experiencing your issues?

    Axe-Fx II Firmware 11 released!

Wow, firmware 11 is absolutely amazing. I installed it this afternoon and uploaded all the preset banks. Any issues with 11beta have been polished out. Tones are stunning. Mesa's sound great - Huge thump and roar! the Jumpered plexi is SICK! The Marshall's bark and snarl like they should! Anyone...

    NAD! Axe Fx II!!!

So last month I did a gig where my 5150ii had to be turned down to the point where my power amp wasn't even really working. The gig was a pretty big one, one of the biggest venues in my city (outside of the huge ones such as the Edmonton Event Centre, Shaw, Etc). We played for 390 out of 400...

Ready to Pull Trigger, need advice.....

Hey man. I'm a newb with Axe Fx II as well. To be completely honest, I don't even have one yet - but it's being saved up for quickly and should have it shortly. I've also been doing a Sh*t-ton of research! At my last gig my rig was hooked up to the house PA (mic'd cab) and the sound guy...

Sweet Child O' Mine Attempt FW.11 Beta

Your lick is a tad bit off - perhaps purposefully to prove that it wasn't just a sound clip from the original track - because this tone is absolutely bang on! Great job!

    Why all the Metal??????

Different strokes people.. Axe fx is amazing for metal because you can get any amount of insane drive without the volume required. You get definition, punch, and ball breaking tone from these things. It allows the player to get these tones - with many different options for manipulation -...
