For bedroom level sounds the presets are great. You’re done, just find some you like. Live use is where it gets trickier. At volume you’ll have to figure out how to tweak to make them sound great and fit in the mix. That takes time and skill. At least for me. In general the base presets...

Taming the High End via the Cab Block With One Slight Tweak - Any IR

I set the high cut about 6500-7500 depending on cab, and also bump the low cut up to 80-100. I find the high cut keeps the ear fatigue down and the low cut keeps me from stepping on the bass players toes (just a little :)).

Hi Robberns, thanks for the thoughts. I have a EV-1, and its great, but the thing weighs a ton and has a bigger footprint than the VP Jr. Ideally with my switch from the AX8 to the FM3 I want to get the size and weight of my pedal board down to fitting into my smaller pedal case.

I went through Yek's Amp Series last night through my monitors at slightly higher than bedroom levels.... WOW... I ended up saving 18 amps down to my AX8 to try out at gig volumes.. So much good stuff, I can't wait to get back to the studio and turn it up.

Thanks! Yeah the Z-28 doesn't have an effects loop, but it has an ef86 pre-amp tube that takes stomp pedals really really well. But we'll see. The Marshall has the loop, but also is way more work to lug the head and 4x12 cab around.
